  1. The general consensus before he came over was that he was more Chris than Jack . Certainly that day at Peterborough he looked it . I reckon Panthers fans will really enjoy watching him this season .
  2. I was there that day , Richard Sweetman ( in blue ) after dusting himself down came out and won the rerun
  3. Is it only official matches ? Pretty sure Freddie Lindgren went through the card at James Grieves' testimonial about 5 years ago , cant ever remember him gracing the Ashfield shale on any other occasion .
  4. You've formed your opinion , which you're entitled to do . Some on here will have applauded his WWF move on Pedersen , but that's by the by . Would be a good move if his seemingly cordial relationship with Glasgow resulted in his presence at March's Benfund meeting up here .
  5. The money he received for wearing the Glasgow kevlars at Cardiff , he donated to Darcy Ward's fund , so he's not all an unfeeling monster
  6. You're not a fan then , oh well . Anyway is it too much to hope for that he might tell us that he wants to wear those Glasgow kevlars again and ride in the Benfund meeting ? What a boost that would be to the cause and would give the Benfund meeting idea the boost it needs as it seems to have been dumbed down a bit in recent seasons
  7. Glasgow for me - 1 Aaron Summers - was a wee bit disappointing last season , especially away from home , but was dogged much of the time with engine problems and hopefully he has better luck in that department in 2017 . Will certainly maintain his average over the season . 2 Richard Lawson - you know what to expect from Richard , brilliant gater who is reliable for double figures at home . He can sometimes disappear during away meetings after starting strongly , nevertheless another who will comfortably average 8.5 to 9 this coming season . 3 Richie Worrall - rider of the year at Glasgow in 2016 , no reason to suspect he hasn't stopped improving , confident he'll establish himself in the number 1 racejacket as the season progresses . 4 Nike Lunna - Mr Entertainment last season , lit up many a dull encounter with his never say die efforts after gating poorly . Improves on his gating he'll put a couple of points on his average , though a part of me hopes he doesn't improve his gating too much . 5 Dan Bewley - his progress during last season was breath taking . From looking out of his depth early on , to beating opposition heat leaders home and away before his season ended prematurely . On a 3.9 average he's a steal , and how much he adds to that could determine how successful we are . 6 Tom Perry - could be one of the best reserves in the league if he stays injury free , certainly he's impressed round Ashfield on a few occasions in the past . Big season for him 7 Jack Smith - can see him being much the same as Dan Bewley was last year , will take time to find his feet no doubt , but with support behind him i'm confident he'll do okay .
  8. Sorry Panthers fans , we've gone as much off topic as it's possible to go . But there's nothing much happening now all the teams are full . Add to that the top division is going through it's usual turmoil , so at least we can amuse ourselves with Coventry and Poole fans laying into each other on most of the Premiership threads when we get really bored .
  9. I was only a boy at the time , but Russ Dent would surely fill the category . The stadium would erupt when Russ pulled off an unexpected win in Glasgow colours
  10. No it was - We were all conned by Ally's Army We went to the Argentine We thought we were a hit But we made an arse of it With the biggest load of crap you've ever seen
  11. Don't be daft , do you not remember the Argentina World Cup in 78 ? That's what we did
  12. Back in the eighties we used to buy bottles of pomain and rip newspapers into tiny pieces for away trips , for heat 8 when Steve Lawson was out as a taccy sub . Was a lot of time the only race winner we had . The thrashings never dulled the enthusiasm
  13. Onto modern day speedway , the guys that tuck in and rack up the bonus points are vital to every side . Up here the likes of Sean Courtney and Matthew Wethers were perfect examples of that .
  14. Yeah it was to accommodate 6 rider teams though , which obviously has been shelved for the time being .
  15. Makes no difference to me really . Obviously it's good having a nice modern stadium now and having the financial clout means we should be competitive season after season now . But your team is in your blood and even in the seasons we struggled , I followed them home and away and enjoyed myself most of the time . Obviously getting regularly battered at Edinburgh wasn't pleasant , but it never dulled my passion for supporting my team .
  16. Hampden Park wasn't great , too long and narrow and the couple of thousand strong speedway crowd sat in the main stand , while the rest of the stadium , at that time capable of holding more than 100,000 , was empty which naturally meant there was very little atmosphere
  17. He's a cracking bloke . Me and my mate Willie were sat in the beer garden at the Harvester in the afternoon before Glasgow's meeting at Peterborough in May . He must have been dropping something off there , but he saw the Glasgow jackets and came over and had a laugh and a joke with us . A bit different from some of the dour faced buggers running clubs these days .
  18. A major thing holding speedway back is the good old British weather . We could come up with a wonderful new idea for a meeting , bombard the media promoting it , then come the big day it's pouring . Alongside cricket it's a sport totally at the mercy of the elements , and while that remains the case it sort of ties our hands .
  19. Air fences have been a big step forward in rider safety , but as we've seen with Craig Watson , Ryan Fisher and Ales Dryml ( among others ) things can still improve further . Berwick led the way with their foam fence and that is definitely the way to go . Not just with rider safety , but with keeping a meeting flowing too . We've all had to hang about during meetings while a fence is repaired and reflated .
  20. As did Jason Crump in 1992 , happy new year Cyclone
  21. You're right though , I wont be partaking It's embarrassing
  22. No flak , a pretty fair assessment . Agreed away wins will be at a premium . I'm hopeful the lower end of my side will improve their starting averages enough for us to be contenders , but time will tell . Now the festive season is almost over , the countdown to March can begin in earnest .
  23. I'm pissed , cracking day , roll on march
