  1. There is that side to him . I saw him ride like a complete novice for Coventry at Peterborough one night and then watched him finish on the rostrum at the GP Challenge final at Poole the following night . Yes Kasprzak can be unpredictable , but he's reached heights in our sport that I can't see Cook reaching .
  2. Kasprzak obviously . When he can be bothered he's as good a heat leader as anybody , whereas Cook is reliable journeyman rider in the top flight , he's not made the jump into world class speedway to the level Kasprzak has . Plus Cook rode for Edinburgh
  3. I don't mind paying the full price to get it on a Thursday every week .
  4. Only in speedway does a competitor get so harshly penalised for having a successful season .
  5. Both Templeton brothers fall into this category , though Dougie was the better of the two , both were as hard as nails and not to be messed with . Funniest thing I ever saw during Glasgow's spell at Hampden was a very youthful Bobby Beaton, through his inexperience and youthful aggression ,put his team mate Dougie in the fence . Needless to say Dougie wasn't impressed and let Bobby know in no uncertain terms , then as usual Beaton senior appeared to stick his ore in and the result of that was a full scale scuffle between team mates and officials , with Willie being restrained by about four people .
  6. Yeah you can only have two from the same track riding for a Premiership club . I always thought Richie and Dan Bewley would be the two , as did Richie himself as he was told to hang fire as there would be a place for him . But there's no loyalty in speedway , we know that , but this is a particularly low blow for the lad to have suffered .
  7. That is just weird . I've never thought speedway comes across well on TV , the only true way to appreciate speedway is to be there to watch it unfold at the track .
  8. Plus it seems they have went back on their promise to Richie Worrall too
  9. Yeah but he wore pink leathers ..........wuss
  10. Seems the wilder a rider is , the more entertaining he becomes . I never considered Richard Green a nutter , very good rider , but not a nutter . But I never saw him round the County Ground . Jason Lyons ,when he started at Glasgow , was definitely out of control a lot of the time , but also very exciting to watch . Likewise Jesper Olsen , when he arrived at Shawfield , made almost weekly visits to the ambulance .
  11. Hard to believe it's 15 years since he was a Tiger . Been a great servant to British speedway and he deserves this
  12. Reading the complaints on this forum , especially over the festive periods , about their Speedway Star being days late puts me off ever getting a subscription . I'm quite happy picking mine up on a Thursday on my way to work .
  13. Saw Ivan Mauger kick the phone around the centre green at Coatbridge . In 1991 the then Glasgow promoter , Neil MacFarlane , was seen arguing with the referee on the phone at Powderhall . He the proceeded to rip the phone off the pole it was located on . In later years he admitted he wasn't actually talking to anybody , and the phone ripping was all done for effect to get the crowd wound up .
  14. yawn do what I do , get your local newsagent to get it for you , mine's is there every Thursday morning , even during the festive period
  15. Seriously ?????? James Shanes , Ellis Perks , Zach Washyerneck , Nathan Greaves , I rest my case
  16. We loved Danny at Glasgow , if he gets many heat 2 wins , you'll love the celebrations . Riss is a bit hit and miss , never really progressed much last season after a decent opening season . Wolbert , however , he's one of these riders you just don't know what version will turn up . If he doesn't fancy it , then you can forget it . If it came to an end of season promotion/relegation fixture between Glasgow and that Leicester side , i'd fancy my chances . But line ups will change once the first green sheets appear .
  17. Fair enough , but it will be soul destroying for fans of any club having a rider they've cheered for all season turning out for the opposition against them in such an important fixture . If we must have doubling up ( and apparently riders cant make the sport pay without it ) then forget all about promotion and relegation once and for all .
  18. The whole thing is an accident waiting to happen
  19. Wont get many from my neck of the woods nominating Goodwin after he nearly killed David Walsh one night at Shawfield
  20. Well we said farewell to my friend Dennis today , a good turnout befitting such a nice man . Rest in peace Dennis
  21. Agreed , ok he was borderline dangerous at times, but his races always got the crowd going , either for or against . Scottish derbies with Parker on one side and Fisher on the other were always exciting , could be controversial , but never dull .
  22. If a rider is a club asset of one of the particular clubs involved , then obviously he rides there , if the rider in question is a club asset of neither club ( i.e. Craig Cook Workington and probably Belle Vue as he's an Edinburgh asset ) then god knows , just have to hope there's not many clashes . Also if for talking sake Richie Worrall ( Belle Vue asset assuming Belle Vue include him in their septet ) is down to ride for Glasgow against whoever in a scheduled fixture , but Belle Vue reaaranged a fixture for the same night - then the scheduled fixture would take priority . The fun and games will come if we have a end of season situation where Workington and Belle Vue were the two sides involved in the promotion / relegation play off - which side would Craig Cook ride for in that scenario ? We could conceivably have Craig Cook riding number 1 for Workington and Belle Vue using rider replacement for Craig Cook at number 5 .
  23. Cheers guys , it was a long time ago and was going by memory , was only 14 in 1973 and still went to the speedway with my dad . Remember being distraught when we dropped down a league as Jimmy Mac was my hero and it was unthinkable to me for him to be riding for anyone else but the Tigers . But I soon got used to life in division 2 especially when the likes of Mitch Shirra , Mick McKeon and Merv Janke arrived to entertain us .
