  1. it's ok , for some reason only known to yourself , you don't like Glasgow because the owners are rich and successful businessmen . And I know you don't support Sheffield , just anyone racing against Glasgow , that's fine too , enjoy your speedway .
  2. These reunions are great ideas , we've had a couple in Paisley and it's great to see the old faces from the 70's that entertained us .
  3. Braehead is the same . While it's hard to take on board ice hockey ideas in relation to speedway , they do a lot right while speedway struggles to grasp the concept of entertaining the public .
  4. last week i enjoyed the sheffield result , did you ? maybe you may get revenge on ThURsDay . there
  5. Probably pointless starting a thread for this as the forecast is pretty horrendous for Thursday , but in the off chance the weather forecasters have it wrong , it's a warm welcome to the Comets . We're in a mess , form has dipped , and we have a major injury crisis to the bottom end of the side . Perry and Lunna have no chance and Bewley must be in the extremely doubtful category . We only beat the Comets by 2 points earlier in the season , so they could come sniffing a victory . Cook , Proctor and Tommy the tape toucher can push our three heat leaders and after that it's anybodys guess depending on who we can rope in to cover . But all that might be irrelevent as i'm tipping the rain to win the day .
  6. We're all very aware of that , but the governing body opened that Pandora's box and there's no reason to think they'll close it . So clubs have to try their best to work round it no matter how difficult that becomes . Sadly it will kill the sport eventually .
  7. Would that be riders who thanks to doubling up are racing most nights of the week . Seems that particular Pandora's box is open until it contributes to killing the golden goose completely .
  8. So do we just give up ? Do you not think a sport which has the ability to thrill and excite us is worth trying to save ? Granted the custodians of the sport have done their level best to kill it off , but we've all grown up loving it and it's still not quite worth giving up on .
  9. Years ago Monday was their traditional race night
  10. This is hilarious . Sometimes a Glasgow/Edinburgh thread can cross the line at times , but a Newcastle /Redcar one never disappoints . Bellers " i'm an Edinburgh fan honest " - comedy gold .
  11. North and South conferences makes sense , with play-offs between the two at the end . With two conferences you haven't got the " we finished top of the league , so should be champions " argument . We can still have doubling up if necessary , but from one conference to the other , same with guests . Then hopefully it would be thought out properly when clashes are a possibility in the play offs .
  12. Sorry , but woosh , our friend " The Scotsman " and his sense of humour has went over your head .
  13. That has died down to a trickle , because you can only use the free ticket once . But the crowds have remained healthy as it's obvious many have returned . Especially families as the kids race on Saturday night looked to have well over a hundred kids taking part . We might be misfiring a bit on the track , but on the terraces numbers are very healthy indeed .
  14. We have 5 home matches left apart from the 3 away ones , we should be ok regardless of the score tonight .
  15. Obviously they haven't and it's no co-incidence that performances have dipped dramatically in the last 6 weeks or so .
  16. Based on his performance last night , Josh Grajczonek must be a good bet for the riders championship here later this month . The way he stalked then reeled in and passed Richard Lawson during heat 11 last night reminded me of watching Shane Parker at the height of his powers round Ashfield .
  17. That actually had to be seen to be believed last night . Most of the talk beforehand was " this will be a walkover , Sheffield only have half a team " , well as it turned out that was all they needed to end our unbeaten home record . In previous weeks i.e. Workington and Redcar , we had raced into a big lead , then collapsed in a heap - that was away from home . At home we'd managed to muddle through . Last night half way through the meeting we'd established a 30-18 lead by heat 8 and all looked well . Racing had been crap up to that point , but we were winning comfortably so all was well . However , by that time the two wobblers had done their three rides and Grajczonek and Howarth were looking in the mood . Howarth and Graversen then took advantage on tacky ride time to register a 7-2 , then between the 4 Sheffield men they chipped away and entering heat 13 they were only 3 points behind . Cue the Sheffield big two to go into overdrive and Glasgow's spearhead to go missing and the most unlikeliest of away wins had come to fruition . Since Berwick things haven't been right in the Glasgow pits , and if that doesn't change and soon then the season will fizzle out in disappointment . The travelling band of Sheffield fans were wonderful throughout and were justifiably thrilled by what they had just witnessed , I shudder to think what would have happened had they been at full strength last night . The title looks to be heading to Yorkshire this season .
  18. Richard Lawson 3,3,3 in his first three rides for Somerset against Poole tonight . We could have done with some of that at Sheffield last night and we'll definitely need it against the Yorkshire Tigers tomorrow night .
  19. Sadly the one you're thinking of is no longer with us .
  20. Actually that collection of fans on here seems to be growing by the week .
  21. Surely buying a season ticket is trying to give your club a financial boost at the start of a season rather than the bargain it gives you , or not , being the deciding factor in debating whether to get one or not .
  22. It's perfectly understandable . We all still love the sport , two against two on a well prepared track is still a sight to behold . But the frustration of having the custodians of our sport constantly ruin it , is heart breaking .
  23. Kerr's as good as he's going to be , can't see us being too interested in him . And we're not a shambles , we've just hit a run of indifferent form at the wrong time , but hopefully once we reach the tickly bit of the season we'll bounce back .
  24. Agree what you say , and at Glasgow we've been privileged over the years to enjoy the talents of the great Charlie Monk , Jason Lyons , Shane Bowes , Shane Parker , Travis McGowan , Craig Watson and co . But seriously it's just been one strop and whinge after another from the Aussies recently . I remember Charlie Monk throwing on a pair of overalls over his leathers when it rained and the track was wet , and going out and scoring maximums . You never saw Charlie throwing the toys out the pram like a Schlein or a Batchelor when a few raindrops fell on the track .
