  1. Son of God is a bit hit and miss at the dump , last night was a bit of a miss while with all due respect to Wilkinson , Armadale doesnt suit his style of racing . We were truly awful when you thumped us earlier in the season , but towards the end of the campaign we began to look the part . Yes Cook has been the catalyst in that , whether he is fit enough for next weekend is up in the air and the choice of available guests isnt wonderful should he not make it . But it's a play off semi final so whoever is riding for either side will give their all . If you beat us then you will have deserved it , but it will be close and could just be a couple of classic meetings .
  2. Our Cumbrian friends taking some solace at our just failing to win speedway's most prestigious trophy last night . That's understandable as nerves get the better of them at the prospect of facing the glorious Glasgow Tigers next weekend . Losing a run off is like getting beat on penalties at football , no disgrace in that . To reach 40 on a track Workington struggles to reach 30 shows how good a performance from an under strength Glasgow it was . This served as a perfect warm up meeting for next weekend , i look forward to it with confidence .
  3. That was the last Newport v Glasgow meeting on the eve of Cardiff . The Pairs at Somerset started the following season
  4. 2006 Pinny. Shane and Danny Bird got a 4-2 to clinch the meeting for Glasgow 46-44 after security got called to the referees box when Jim McGregor excluded Carl Wilkinson when he came down on the first bend . Shane was doing his celebration wheelie along the home straight when some eejit lobbed a large stone at him .
  5. Maybe , but it's an extremely large cup
  6. A wee question about that . Since riders cant guest for another team in the play offs ( remember them Monarchs fans ) and since Son of God now rides for a shopping centre who have also made the play offs . If , this weekend , Peterborough knock the shopping centre out of the play offs . Would Son of God still be ineligible to guest for his spiritual home if Cookie was still out of action by the time we go to war with the Comets on the 12th ?
  7. Well obviously the Scottish Cup takes precedence over a play off semi final . The Scottish Cup is a final my good man
  8. Agreed , we've had enough of all the slagging off . We now have two dates which seems to suit both camps , should be two cracking meetings i
  9. So despite all the other trivial stuff going on , like title play offs etc , the most coveted prize in British speedway can come to its exciting climax . Yes since the sad demise of the Spring Trophy , this has become the pinacle of our great sport . Once again Glasgow and Edinburgh have been awarded byes into the final , since the Paisley Lions and Motherwell Eagles were unable to fulfill their fixtures , and the brave boys from the West hold a ten point lead from the first leg back when the daffodils were in bloom . It was muted that since both clubs are without their injured number sevens , to negate Edinburgh's home track advantage , the Monarchs would use a NL guest and we would use Greg Hancock or Tai Woffinden , but apparently they have some other nonsense going on at the weekend . So despite Edinburgh being a crestfallen and dejected outfit , having blown a 347 point lead in last week's KO Cup semi final , they still go into this as favourites . But the plucky underdogs from God's city will battle to protect their 10 point lead , bring it on .
  10. They did indeed , and the rider who held the track record when we left Shawfield - Brian Andersen
  11. What an incredible result . Has to be one of the greatest comebacks in cup speedway history , i'm sure even the most ardent Comets fan didnt expect to pull back a 28 point deficit against one of the strongest sides in the league. Well done Workington
  12. There is the problem . The BSPA should be telling the clubs the dates the meetings have to be held , not leaving it to the clubs humming and hawing and squabbling over it . Why bother with play offs when you get this kind of nonsense .
  13. That's how farcical speedway has become . Why bother having play offs when you get this nonsense . " Oh we cant have it then because such and such is away " , as you say - what other sport's governing body doesnt have the balls to tell clubs that they decide when the matches are - not you .
  14. And so it rumbles on with still no word on when the Glasgow v Workington semi final takes place . It really should be this weekend as the league title should take precedence over cup competitions , but since the Edinburgh v Worky cup semi is already penciled in for then , then it should be the same as the Peterborough v Lakeside semi which is the 6th and 7th of October . And yes i know we wont have our best rider , but so what ? If you sign a rider with all sorts of other commitments, then you have to expect and be prepared for fixture clashes . No wonder the sport in this country is in such a mess when the governing body allow the clubs to decide when they want to race . The four clubs should be told both semi finals are on the weekend of the 5th , 6th and 7th of October with the final the following weekend , deal with it .
  15. This will be interesting . Just over a month to get three competitions done and dusted and getting dates that suit all concerned . Might need to look out the Santa hats by the time we get to the finals .
  16. Speaking to Mrs Paulco on the phone this morning , she was still buzzing . But despite her undoubted joy at last night's wonderful result for us , the one thing that came across from her was that she was blown away with how nice and welcoming the Ipswich supporters and staff were towards her and her pal , Dorothy 58 . They were probably the only two Tigers fans there last night , so a big thanks to you all for showing how great Suffolk hospitality is . I've had enough brilliant nights following the Tigers down to Foxhall to know what she said was true . As a club you might have missed out on the play offs , but as a welcoming support you have no peers.
  17. No hard of thinking here , this is a Glasgow thread
  18. Kemp will be much sought after , after his performance at Glasgow the other week , and in the same pits as the Glasgow promotion tonight
  19. Let them carry on , makes it all the more sweeter lol
  20. I had a feeling Ipswich were vulnerable after seeing Berwick were 4 points ahead last week when the meeting got abandoned , but still absolutely delighted with the outcome tonight . Hoping for a Glasgow v Workington semi final now , which would bring bumper attendances to both tracks over a weekend .
  21. Ipswich taking a risk drafting in two former Glasgow riders as guests for this huge clash . Added to that a former Tiger slides his broomstick round Foxhall at reserve , do Ipswich understand that once a Tiger always a Tiger , except for Kevin Wolbert . As a youngster growing up in Argentina , all his classmates longed to be Maradona , Coty dreamed of being Robett Nagy . Richard , son of god , was born in a stable and visited by three wise men with gifts of , a pint of heavy , a Tigers racejacket and a picture of a statue with a motorway cone on it's head . And growing up in Australia Mason Campton would have a bush tucker trial eating Haggis , square sausage and tattie scones . So Witcypoos , you have been warnef
  22. Wonder who the last Tiger was to score three full maximums , at home , in a row ? The Messiah maybe , God possibly , you might even have to go back to King Charlie in the 60's . Whether signing Cookie drags us into the play offs will be decided in Suffolk and Essex later this week , but it has been a signing that has brought the feelgood factor into a season that was going nowhere .
