Berwick v Somerset, Saturday 20 July 7pm
Paulco replied to George Dodds's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Get the famous covers down which certain Berwick posters boast saves countless meetings a season -
Spot on , the jealousy surrounding Glasgow threads is quite comical at times. I remember only too well standing in the weeds on the back straight at Glasgow and you were able to do a quick head count, now while 2100 May be a tad over generous , the attendances are much healthier . The Charlie Monk stand is always pretty full , the stand on the home straight is usually pretty full , and the fourth bend terrace always looks well populated and swelled by an extra 10 folk when the Monarchs visit. While there are things about Ashfield since the Facennas took over that I don't like, I.e no decent bar and over zealous stewarding, it's like night and day now compared to the dump it used to be . If people feel the need to pick holes and throw insults in the direction of something that is actually good about British speedway, then that's pretty sad and it's an attitude which is indicative of where the sport in this country is just now .

The guest question has been mulled over by people more knowledgeable than us ever since league speedway came into being . How do you replace an unavailable rider who has lost only one heat on home shale all season . You cant , it would be like Belle Vue trying to replace Ivan Mauger in 1969 . The mere nature of our sport means the guest facility in this sort of instance is better than any other answer . -

Only a matter of time before money came into the conversation I suppose . Listen carefully Geoff , we know you are anti Glasgow , we get that it's fine . But having 7 riders in one's team is a better option than r/r . And for this meeting Richard Lawson is the best option available . The fact he is riding for the opposition on Tuesday is irrelevant, he's done enough laps round Glasgow to know he's going to be a force to be reckoned with whether he rides tonight or not . -

All that being said , round Ashfield Richard is probably about the best available -

Is the Polish top league one of them ? -
A much tougher task awaits the glorious Glasgow Tigers this week , 7 days after their ruthless rout of the hapless Brummies . The Broon Ale boys roll into town and we have to tackle them without Mr Maximum . Yes Cookie has been banished to the Siberian Salt mines to take part in that silly Speedway of Nations nonsense this weekend . That leaves us scratching about hunting for a guest ( how do you replace perfection ) with only really someone like Son of God fitting the bill and available . Apart from that , we should be along the usual lines , while the Geordies have strengthened up since they were here last . They gave Jacob Buckfast a go for 10 minutes , but quickly dumped him when Ulrich Oystercard became available . Which meant Cleggy from Last of the summer wine dropped to reserve and they have a real solid look about them , plus Danny Phillips . Should be a hard fought encounter and hopefully we get the weather to do it justice . See you all in the Charlie Monk stand on Friday .

Least said about that the better , but nice of Cookie to miss the two minutes in heat 15 to give us some entertainment -

It's just the way British speedway is now , look at the team Birmingham have got rocking up at Glasgow tomorrow night , you can sign riders to ride for your club , but only when they are not required elsewhere seems to be where we are . -

You're probably right , one thing is for sure Peter Waite wouldn't have put witb " I can't ride on Friday , I'm grasstracking in France " -

Adam Pietrasko was the other rider who was warned, he did ride at Glasgow that day -

I remember Peter Waite giving two Polish riders an ultimatum when Berwick were due at Glasgow one year . They had said they were riding in Poland , Waite told them to be at Glasgow or dont come back . One of them , Piotr Dym, never rode for the Bandits again . That doesn't seem to happen anymore , riders can basically please themselves these days . No club loyalty from Birmingham's number 1 here . -

We could use Roary at reserve for all the difference it should make in this meeting -
Been reported on other threads that Birmingham will be without Adam Ellis and will be forced to use a NL guest . Obviously the North German best pairs or whatever other nonsense on the continent takes preference , but it kinda short changes the paying public over here . Don't know what other riders make up the Brummies side as Arnio is injured, but it looks very like a bit of a very one sided encounter .
-
Same as Redcar done last week , strengthening within the rules before a cup tie . Shame about Bjerre , negates any advantage gained elsewhere
-
What evidence ? Detective Sergeant Blobby on the case infiltrating the evil Glasgow firm
-
Garcia for Bjerre , yeah that makes Newcastle stronger right enough
-
The song never changes
-
I don't know , I only know of one person who was told not to come back , and that was about 4 years ago . But then you're more of an expert of events at Glasgow than any of us are
-
The other side of the story is beginning from to emerge , from eyewitnesses , and it would appear that the so called injured party was particularly vocal and abusive . And with kids in attendance there was no other option . I dont think there is a track in the country that would tolerate that kind of behaviour.
-
I did hear on Friday night that someone had been asked to leave the stadium , but to go onto Facebook using the name " John Smith ' ( seriously ) to have a rant only plays into the hands of the likes of Blobby . Thing is with our owner , he's a successful hard headed businessman , and just like Denham at Workington before him , treated people at a speedway track like possibly they do at the workplace is a no-no . Friday night was a bit of a disaster on and off the track , digging it up half way through the season before an important cup tie was a mistake , and one that cost us dearly. When riders started complaining about the track , the pressure of trying to remedy the mistake obviously mounted . Someone then shouting " this is a disgrace " was obviously the straw that broke the camel's back and the red mist took over . A sad and sorry situation that shouldn't have happened, let's hope lessons have been learned from Friday night .

Folk hoping we get beat isn't vindictiveness, everyone is entitled to support whoever they want . And if folk hate us because they think we're some sort of moneybags club , then that's fine too, I've no issue with that . It won't stop me enjoying going to watch the Tigers home and away .
