Stead Or Kennett For The Gb Wildcard?
Paulco replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Ok maybe you're right - out of his depth was a tad hard . But it's probably Simon's riding style that wasn't suited to the temporary Cardiff track . Don't get me wrong i think Simon is a terrific rider , but maybe the nod should go to somebody else this year as i don't think Simon can do himself justice on that track . -
Stead Or Kennett For The Gb Wildcard?
Paulco replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
<cough , choke , splutter > aye that'll be right - no way am i going cheering for an ex-monarch . Seriously though we keep harping on about the lack of British talent coming through so really we have no option but to give Stead or Kennet the nod . Although , like Stead was last year , whoever it is will be out of their depth . -
Wouldn't touch him for the Premier League on that average at the moment .
-
The way he's riding you might see him in a Bandits racejacket soon Sub .

Yup 3 pages debating a team that virtually picks itself due to the dearth of riders at that level . Well apart from that Scottish team i posted which would wipe the floor with that bunch . -

Who Should Ride For The Uk In The Wtc?
Paulco replied to bazaar3's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
If we're going on current form then the five highest British riders are :- Nicholls 9.89 Harris 9.55 Howe 8.86 Stead 8.29 Richardson 7.79 With Kennett 7.53 and Norris 7.25 just behind . But when you look at what's likely to be our side it just shows how far we are behind the Danes , Aussies , Swedes and Poles . -

I know . Kevin Little retiring was a blow , but for that we'd be up there challenging . -

You might be right SK - i was only a wean myself . I just remember it happening and being most upset about it .

And there was also that one horrible season , 71 i think , when rider control dragged him screaming and kicking down to your lot Spin King . Happily the following year he was back where he belonged . And your right i don't think there is a photograph in existance with Charlie smiling .

My first speedway hero Mr Charles Monk . He was supposed to come over to Glasgow for our 60th anniversary meeting , but sadly suffered an accident when he fell off a roof shortly before being due to come over . Mr maximum Monk is revered in Glasgow and although always seemed stern and aloof will always be remembered as one of the greatest ever Glasgow Tigers . We even forgive that unexplicable decision to go over to the dark side late on in his career .

Paulco replied to tomazpozrl's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Or anybody else . You got a problem with scotty boy or something subedei . -
His career never really hit the heights . Left the tigers and ended up with the monarchs - says it all really . Was in attendance at Glasgow's 60th anniversary meeting in September .
-
Cheers for that Kev . Glasgow didn't exactly set the heather on fire in those days , but as it is now , it was great fun following them up and down the country .

While we are on a Canterbury theme - i made my one and only trip to Kingsmead in May 1978 . I was just a teenager so the memory of that night has faded . But the match concerned was a Canterbury v Glasgow league match . It was on the same day as Ipswich beat Arsenal 1-0 in the Fa cup final cause i remember watching that in the hotel . Glasgow , i remember got a hiding , 50-28 i think and i'm sure there was an altercation on track between Merve Janke and one of the home riders . Can anybody give me details of the points scorers that night if possible . The following day we went to Mildenhall and suffered an even bigger doing 55-23 i think with Derek Richardson being the only race winner .

Doesn't matter what era whether recent or in the distant past , but any trip over to the east of Scotland and the Tigers stuffing the Monarchs is my perfect night's speedway .

Who Will Be World Champ In 2007?
Paulco replied to a topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
No i think being left out last year was the kick up the a**e Hans needed . He obviously took a hard look at himself and what we saw in 2006 is the rider he was always capable of being . He now knows he belongs at the top table of the speedway world and i really think it will turn into a great battle between Hans and Jason next year - with the new main Dane just edging it . But as fans what a treat we are in for . -

What Gp's Are You Going To In 2007?
Paulco replied to SCB's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
She'll love every minute Snapper . I took my 11 year old daughter this year and she was awestruck . She is used to watching speedway at Ashfield along with just a few hundred people . Take plenty of money to run the gauntlet of airhorn and flag sellers . And after last Friday i suspect it will be a Danish flag for 2007.
