  1. All quiet on the Glasgow front , suppose i could read the Berwick thread , but life's too short
  2. I think the nosey value of the opening meeting will ensure a huge crowd . Be nice if the opening day was against someone interesting , but it will probably be " you know who " . The Smug Family Wolbert Feel for the lad if this turns out to be the case . But from our point of view , if we cant have Aaron then Theo or Rusty would do a similar job
  3. I've never been there yet , do you have to book in advance or can you just turn up ?
  4. Edinburgh transferred their licence to Wembley in 1970 . Was near the end of the seventies before the Monarchs were operating again .
  5. He could score double figures one meeting and zero the next . You just never knew what you were going to get
  6. Hospitality , cafeteria and new hall of fame were all mentioned , but worryingly the word " bar" never actually appeared in the article anywhere I expect a huge opening day crowd too . Whether 2000 is achieved remains to be seen , but it's definitely doable . There will be loads turning up , who havent been for years , just to see the difference in the place . Then getting the product right on and off the track is vital to keep them coming back . Glasgow has a population of around eight hundred thousand , so is two thousand at the speedway on a Sunday afternoon pie in the sky ? I think not . And sorry if you were offended Blobby , but in any sport , the most important fixtures to the majority of fans are the local derbies .
  7. Just read the Speedway Star article , and i'm even more enthusiastic about the coming season than i was before . Loved the bit Gerry Facenna said about Nick Morris . He went over to Smugville for the play off final and all the Smugs were booing and jeering Nick - they hate him there . " He's the guy we need in our team " says Gerry . You gotta love that reasoning
  8. A wee beer ???????? This aint Edinburgh
  9. Not so easy . Central station used to sell them , but i dont think they do now . I get mine from my local newsagent who orders it for me , if you cant get a copy , i'll send you mine once i've read it
  10. If i had that kind of money to throw around , do you think i'd be investing in speedway haha ?
  11. I dunno , being a supporter of a team who has had more than it's fair share of Aussie duds in recent seasons , i'd be a bit concerned at Jake Allen's scores over there .
  12. Cheque book speedway is the future
  13. Just as well there's not a NZ GP this year or he'd miss the start of the season haha
  14. Us Jocks are more prudent with our cash
  15. I suppose that could happen . He's Redcar's asset and they are perfectly entitled to ask whatever they want for him . Then it's up to any potential buyer whether they want to meet that valuation . Redcar can no longer fit him into their septet as it stands , so the danger is if Glasgow turn their attentions elsewhere and the lad gets frozen out . Lets hope that doesn't happen . But if what you suggest actually transpires , then it shows what a mockery the asset thing actually is . Time it was binned and any rider and clubs can negotiate with who they want at the end of every season .
  16. Thanks for everything Gordon , there's a better than even chance that we would not be discussing a Glasgow side on here now had it not been for your efforts , along with Alan and Stewart during the Ashfield era . Don't be a stranger and haste you back to watch your team whenever you can . I hope to bump into you somewhere on my travels in 2015 . Happy new year mate .
  17. He's maybe still in talks with Michael Makovsky and Charlie Gjedde
  18. Any talk of EL racing north of the border is " pie in the sky " stuff . We dropped out of top flight racing at the end of the 1973 season , and apart from the one big league in 95 , we have remained a 2nd tier club ever since . I don't see that changing any time soon . But you never can tell , with the EL dropping in both standards and numbers , who knows what shape British speedway will take during the rest of this decade .
  19. Clubs like their big dramatic announcements , we just have to play along sometimes
  20. Maybe we should rename Ashfield , call it the Ethishale Arena
  21. As your user name suggests , a certain rider sharing that user name is not going to be top of any Glasgow fans favourite list , even if one of our favourite sons was a Long Eaton rider at the time . Speedway is not run on paper , we know that , that has been proved on numerous occasions . But as things stand we don't look like being in our usual place down in the lower reaches of the table . We are looking forward to the season for a change
