  1. glad to hear the crowd was excellent , one in the eye for the play off haters
  2. Of course I was there , me and a few hundred other Tiggers . Don't serve Buckfast in the Armadale bar , not on draught anyway , but they serve a very passable pint of best and poured by a very attractive young lady . As for the post mortem , your lot were annoyingly efficient as usual , we were mince .
  3. Hope all this is rubbish about Fisher , we always like to boo the evil one when he's at Ashfield
  4. Obviously after our woeful performance on Friday , yesterday was all about restoring some pride , but the afternoon turned out to be much more than that . Yesterday was a celebration on how far we've come as a club this season . It was a wonderful hot day , plush new stadium looked superb , a huge crowd , especially the Smugageddon going on at a packed fourth bend enclosure . The presentation was the best I've seen at a speedway track all season , Fixerman up from Workington commented to me that obviously there had been gaps in the action with track grading etc , but you never noticed them because there was always something going on . We've learned a lot about meeting presentation from the slick operation at Braehead Clan ice hockey , and the mascot going round in the car while catching balls being thrown from the crowd proved a great success with the kids . That's been the most pleasing thing this season , the amount of youngsters that come to the speedway now , the future of the sport here looks bright . The meeting itself went as expected , youre not going to beat that Edinburgh team by more than 21 points , but we did well to come back and get a draw after being 12 points down . Losing in a cup final is much better than being bottom of the league , so that and play off qualification is an excellent first season's work for the new regime . Glasgow is a work in progress and we are all delighted to be a part of what we have .
  5. I think it's just a run off if it's all square , though my nerves couldn't stand that . I just hope we can stay in touch on Friday . We have the riders that can get round there , Aaron , Nick and Victor don't have issues with the track and Richard rode well that famous night we won there in the league . The price hike for both legs still rankles , but maybe the BSPA have sneaked in a new law . If both teams track 7 riders and there's not a guest to be seen , then clubs can charge £20 to mark the historic occasion .
  6. Exactly , I cant understand why any young person could be tempted into our sport these days .
  7. Of course it wouldn't , pretty shabby treatment of both team's supporters . Once again speedway clubs takes it's paying public for granted
  8. As a matter of interest , did Edinburgh increase the admission charge for last year's League Cup , KO Cup or Play off finals ?
  9. Fraid not , speedway trips have used up all my holiday days from work already this year
  10. About 5 miles Lewy . The 500 bus leaves outside the terminal building every 10 mins and takes about 20 mins to get to the city centre . Taxi drivers at the airport all wear Dick Turpin masks and charge about 20 quid for the journey
  11. Which is for basically pub league standard football
  12. Plenty of Premier Inns in the City Centre . The one at Charing Cross is usually a bit cheaper than the rest . We all meet in the Horseshoe Bar before the speedway ( well from about half 12 ) on a Sunday . PM me if you want my mobile number and we can arrange the social side of the weekend
  13. Sorry , but cup final or not , to increase the admission price to 20 pounds for both legs , for what is 15 heats of speedway between Edinburgh and Glasgow each day , is a bit of a smack in the teeth for the fans of both clubs . I cant remember for sure , but I don't recall such a stunt being pulled for the 1994 KO Cup final the last time we raced each other in a national final
  14. How is my argument a contradiction ? People will turn out for the bigger meetings regardless what time of year it is . The play offs are fantastic and qualification has become the holy grail for every promotion .
  15. It's an old argument and it's becoming an outdated one . Many sports crown their champions after play offs and the way speedway club's finances are , play offs can be a financial godsend . Top of the league and worthy of that accolade maybe , but after Edinburgh's well published money worries , ask the Edinburgh promotion whether they welcome the play offs or not .
  16. We had this before , didn't work then , wont work now . 1996 Scottish Monarchs . A lot of Edinburgh fans wouldn't go because it was at Glasgow , and we went and supported the away team every week until we got fed up with it all . Seriously how many Berwick fans could turn up and support the Borders Monarchs ???????
  17. Play offs are here to stay , so the traditionalists will just have to lump it . They provide great tension and excitement , the last three finals have went to the 30th heat i think . Yes it seems unfair if the table topping team doesnt come out champions , but the league is merely a qualifying competition for this now .
  18. What date is it again that Smirker and Sedgwoman are away to sit in the pits at the Aussie GP ? just in case we squeeze past Plymouth and have to set a date for the semi final
  19. There isn't one , unless you like The Proclaimers and support Hibs or Hearts and then Glasgow are up to something again .
  20. I've questioned this in the past as I watch Richard Lawson do it regularly . Apparently it's ok as long as you're holding onto the handlebars . Another one of speedway's pointless rules .
  21. Rye House have previous at Glasgow , remember McAllan and Ksiezak being the Rockets duo in the PL Pairs
  22. High average or not , teams would be falling over themselves to have him in their side . But reading that article , and his feelings towards last week's PLRC , makes me think he has tired of PL racing and sees himself going higher .
  23. I hope Cook does . He'll be missed at PL level , but I don't think he's reached his peak yet and from a British point of view it would be nice if he could reach the next level . We only have Woffinden and to a lesser extent , Harris
  24. According to the article in the Speedway Star , this week , he reckons it's time to kiss the Premier League goodbye . We shall see
