Talking of Aussies, does anyone remember Terry Brett who second halved at Brum in, I think, 74 or 75? Think he was a sheep farmer who may have sold up to give speedway a good go. Had a distinctive “style” of rolling off the throttle on the straights and pinning it on the corners. Didn’t make it, obviously!

At Brum Herne, Askew, Lyons, Sweetman, Cheshire, Sanders None Brum Doyle, C. Holder, J Crump, P Crump

Think it was there yes, also at the Whispering Wheels Roller Rink in Wolverhampton and one in Brum. There was an article in a one off speedway magazine, Broadslide, a couple of years ago.

Mickey Mouse it maybe. But after 2nd halving in 71 and not really doing all that well, he rode Indoors during the winter and then scored a maximum on his debut for Brum in 72. Must have done him some good. The machines had BSA Bantam motors so were more suited to a glazed concrete surface. A lot better than using normal speedway engines which is plain silly.

There’s grass track yes, but you can add indoor speedway to the list too.

Big Arthur Browning (there was actually a small one, his Dad) has to be a contender simply because of the amount of disciplines he’s ridden over the years. Speedway Scrambling/Motocross Trials ISDT Manx GP/Classic TT Red Marley Hill Climb Cadbury’s Milk Tray Advert That’s some list.

Mind you, the way Cribby unscrewed his exclusion light and trod on it that night at PB , no way could u call him a pussy, it was probably red hot, well white hot actually!

10 pages in and no mention of Cribby or Big Arthur!

Birmingham Brummies 2020
czechhero replied to ProudtobeaBrummie's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Anyone else feel that the imminent roadworks and general buggering about in Perry Barr will have a negative effect on the speedway club? Be a shame if it does. -
Scrambling on Grandstand, happy days. RIP Vic, who was one the biggest names in the sport, along with the likes of John Banks, Badger Goss and of course, the legend that is Arthur Browning!
-
Great to see John Hart and George Major both looking so well.

The “ignore” facility is a truly wonderful thing.

Favourite Rider of All Time
czechhero replied to wealdstone's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
There’s only one real favourite rider of all time for me , the avatar is a clue. Zdenek Kudrna. Honourable mentions though to my first ever fave and that’s Chris Bass of Cradley Heath. Don’t know why, but I was only 10 after all. Soft spots for Brummie legends Big Arthur, the galloping Major and the mighty Phil Herne. Great days. Oh and Ivan Mauger, the GOAT. -
Or brown, maybe?

If Hancock carries on drinking Monster at the rate he used to, he’ll spend more time in the toilets than out on track!

No BSB from Donington then?

I don’t know about you, but I absolutely refuse to buy anything that’s not priced in guineas. -
35 years since we lost Kermit. Gone but never, ever forgotten RIP

Now that's what I call a well researched and beautifully written article. RIP ZK.

If we end up with a number one who, in EL terms, is as strong and as popular as our Jase, then I reckon a lot of peeps will be happy as Larry come March 2011. It's the short*rses who won't be able to see over the air fence that'll be peed off!!

TBF JJ, speedway is run totally differently now, so it will probably be worse!! Double rider replacement here we come! First signing Bob Valentine!!

Darcy Ward And Gollob Up For Fim Awards

Too true. One of, if not the, biggest characters in World Sport never gets a sniff in the BBC awards; Valentino Rossi.
