  1. So I pressume Darcy Ward will ride in Gorzow if we hear nothing from the FIM. Isn't that rather strange? Also why doesn't anybody seem to know when the FIM hearing will be?
  2. Philip Rising!! So disappointed with your response to the shambles in Riga, "well you should have gone with Travel Plus"....ffs Why? Why should we have to go with a travel company just in case SGP are incapable of putting on a speedway meeting. We have been fortunate enough to go to many meetings in Europe; league, WC & GP and part of the fun is planning and exploring these places on our own, not to mention the cost. For reference; Travel Plus 3 nights in Riga = £479, we went for 5 nights for £320 and before you mention transfers etc a bus from the airport was about €1.00, taxi €3.50/each. The whole city is walkable and that particular weekend all public transport was free because of the city birthday celebrations. Also our hotel, according to Tripadvisor, was rated higher (9th) than the Travel Plus hotel (24th) and the price included afternoon coffee and cake and an evening buffet meal if you wanted it. I used to regard your posts as an informed calm amongst the tittle tattle but I think you underestimate how let down and annoyed those who try to support these events feel and trite comments such as yours just rub salt in to the wounds. It used to be fun to follow speedway but it is becoming more and more exasperating, disappointing and frustrating, no wonder there are fewer of us around now. And another thing! Why is the Speedway Star incapable or unwilling to take SGP to task when these events go wrong. The main story should have been, "Hundreds of fans left stranded in Riga as GP is moved 230 kilometres due to sheer incompetence". See page 7 to find out why......... By the way regarding the costs incurred by BSI/SGP etc. I hope it cost them a fortune!
  3. This is bugging me now, probably unreasonably, but the SGP website is very quick to give us news on the Dudek failed drug test but Darcy Wards failed alcohol test is still not newsworthy???
  4. Unless I've overlooked it, and apologies if I have, how come this very big news for speedway and the GP's in particular, is not even mentioned on the SGP website? The report of the meeting does not mention him at all and nothing since. I wonder why? More smoke and mirrors and half truths? Has he been abducted by aliens? If you get your news from the SGP website he has vanished without trace.
  5. Do we get a prize! As feared we have now "achieved" the hat-trick of going to the three cancelled GP's. All as a consequence of poor track preparation, not as a direct result of the weather. When will they learn? Cardiff last year was a very close call and Tampere was barely fit for purpose. You can see that there was a dramatic improvement in the stadium in Riga but why is the most important bit, the track, left to chance? We travelled hoping for the best, we weren't encouraged by the total lack of posters or adverts anywhere in the city, was it really going to happen? Well obviously not and of course everybody passes the buck and the beleaguered fans are left to make other arrangements or give up. Very disappointed with the support offered by SGP/BSI (whoever) for the fans who make a big effort to support these events. Would coaches have been too much to ask for? Or even show details of how to get to Daugavpils to help those fans who wanted to go. An Edinburgh fan in our hotel said he spent all Saturday afternoon on his lap top trying to sort out the best way to get there! Not sure I've even seen an apology on their website. I'd also suggest that just offering your ticket money back (once you've jumped through hoops) is not really adequate compensation, surely they could have tried a bit harder. All in all yet another bad experience and one that proved to be the final straw. We are already commited to Stockholm but that will be our final GP.
  6. Does anybody have any advice on the best way to get from Riga centre to the stadium. It looks a little way out of town. Thanks if anybody can help.
  7. So, does this mean that the stadium is still up for sale? If so why is it taken as read that speedway only has three (or two and a half years left)?
  8. As it's the next GP and we've heard nothing more, is it safe to assume that the stadium improvements and track prep are all in hand and will be complete in time. Rather apprehensive about booking the tickets. Having experienced two disasters at Gelsenkirchen and Gothenburg I don't want to make it a hat-trick!
  9. As said before, the last official news I've seen is that the sale is imminent. Nothing since. So; has the sale been completed? If so, who to? And if sold, what are the buyers plans? Once these questions have been answered officially, we can then move on.
  10. Chris van Straaten is the guest speaker at the NSSC tonight. Maybe he will be able to answer these questions?
  11. I thought they'd sorted these indoor tracks out. Certainly had plenty of practice, but Cardiff was mighty close to being a non-starter last year. The track at practice was almost un-rideable and certainly not raceable. Only an immense amount of work overnight saved the day. Now it seems something similar could have happened at Parken. Worrying!
  12. Having watched the clip (in which Smolinski was not excluded for, by the way) I cannot see why he is getting tarred with the same brush as Pedersen. The distant camera angle is not conclusive but Smolinski does not appear to move off his line entering the bend. Certainly nothing like Pedersen v Zagar. For me the worse thing about the Pedersen/Zagar incident was Niki's total lack of respect or interest in the rider he had just knocked off (wether intentionally or not). A raised hand of apology or a check to make sure he was OK would have at least maintained his stance that it was a racing incident. His attitude from the moment they crashed to the scenes in the pits was just unacceptable. If you are going to ban riders for what happened in Olching then we may as well pack up and watch curling because there won't be any riders left.
  13. If the track shape can be changed for next year then obviously there was a problem this year. This problem should have been spotted and solved by whoever the experts are months ago. As "mere" fans we knew the track was too narrow as soon as we saw it on Wednesday. The country, city and people have been great, but most of those who travelled this year and the locals, who left in droves before the end, will not be there next year. What a mess! BSI/IMG need to concentrate on the track. Get that right and everything else will follow, however they seem more interested in their bloody fan zone and Monster Energy!!
  14. Has the sale of the stadium actually gone through yet? If so, who to and what are their plans? Until this is clarified and is fact, not gossip, surely nothing can be done yet. When the news broke the "sale was imminent" but I haven't seen anything official since.
  15. Haven't seen anything yet about the total money raised for Ryan and his family yet. Either at Coventry or Peterborough or both. I would have thought only fair to those who contributed to the collection to be told how it went. I know Ryan received £250 from the proceeds of the Brandon 50/50. Totally agree with the other comments about the presentation and also bemused at the need for an interval when rain was imminent. As a speedway fan first and Coventry fan second I felt cheated of a decent heat 15 because of the rain. This could have been avoided with a bit of common sense.
  16. What a load of rubbish from the usual suspects. If you banned every rider who caused a crash they'd be none left. I like Tai but I thought his challenge that ended Gollob's season was much worse, very reckless, but I didn't see any comments from Mr Ford then. As shown in a previous post, Darcy tried exactly the same move in the 2013 NZSGP. Maybe rather than banning riders who cause crashes, we should ban overtaking, then there would be far fewer accidents.........
  17. Perhaps Darcy Ward ought to look at this before taking Smoli to task. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vlqUKJ6SwP0 Same bend, the previous year, heat 14. To be fair he just managed to save it but very very close to a similar outcome.
  18. Whoever reads this from Coventry Speedway/stadium thanks a lot!!!! From the pictures this meeting was never going to happen, why wait until 5:30 to call it off??? I've now had three wasted journeys to Brandon in a week. Who shall I send my diesel bill to ????? What started very badly last Friday is getting worse and worse....may as well give up, looks like they have!
  19. Another sloppy PR exercise by Coventry. What we saw on that night was not 6 heats of "speedway". It was some young lads trying their best on a pudding of a track. To regain any good faith surely it should have been free admission to another Storm meeting. If they are charging £1 for each heat we should claim back £1 for every 5 minutes we were sitting in the freezing cold waiting for something to happen....not to mention the £2 wasted on a pathetic "programme". As others have said it was a shambolic night from start to finish and this paltry gesture sums it up!
  20. Apologies if I've missed something but has the sale of the stadium actually gone through? The original statement said that the sale was imminent, but I've seen nothing since. If it has (or does), do we know for a fact who the new owners are? And once known why is it a foregone conclusion that houses will be built in the next few years. I thought the "use of land" would restrict this. Does anybody know what the Rugby Borough Council thinks of all this? I seem to remember that Sandhu was not allowed to demolish the two grey "sheds" when he wanted to improve the stadium. If that is true how is it going to be so easy to build houses on the site?
  21. Mr Shovlar, why does it bother you so much that in your opinion there were no Coventry fans at Poole on Friday? I am a Coventry fan and went to what turned out to be a shambles of a Storm meeting at Brandon. However if I had gone to Poole how would you know if I was a Coventry fan or not? We don't all wear Wulfsport coats or wear yellow and black from head to toe! Besides if the crowd was that big how would you know the team orientation of everybody there? As you said yourself "Havvy Poole legend"......he is not a Coventry legend. So what's your point? I wonder in years past if Coventry fans would have been so bothered to look to see how many Poole fans attended Nigel Boocock's, Rick Miller's or Ole Olsen's meetings.
  22. Certainly some negative signs tonight! Not sure which are Mick Hortons or Sandhus responsibilities? Presentation...poor (who on earth was the new announcer?) Customer liaison...poor (no mention/explanation about re-admission, or what was going on in the long wait for the tractor) Track work...shambolic (yes it was wet but not a clue what to do about it. Who was in charge?) Stadium...needs attention (lots of bulbs missing from track lights, still got last years team names and pictures in the pits) Riders..... had no chance on that track If that was your first speedway meeting, you would never bother again! A lot of things to put right before Sunday and the rest of the season.
  23. So. They want £25 off us. Any chance of knowing the line-up.........
  24. No matter how much it is dressed up and how much it costs per heat, it is too expensive. Removing the word "league" from the title also removes any kudos this meeting did have. It is now just a pre-season open meeting. There could be a lot of empty seats and acres of concrete steps for the much wanted SKY cameras. Also I haven't noticed any adverts for this meeting ( in Speedway Star) and why is the prize money or prize, never mentioned these days for meetings like this, are they too embarrassed?
