  1. You may well be mad Longlivefrankie, but you're not wrong. It was the 1975 final. The track was terrible and became more and more dusty as the meeting progressed, so (if I remember correctly) some angry supporters took a hose pipe and put some water on the first bend. Peter Collins was on the outside gate in the next race and hit the wet patch, causing him to literally slip into last place and lose any chance of winning the title. Still, he made up for it the following year.
  2. Crikey!! He looks like my Mother-in-law! Scary.
  3. Maybe not the best quality, but there's one here: http://www.geocities.com/gam_noticeboard/rh79.html
  4. Thanks Steve. I'm hoping to go to a meeting in Japan at the end of May and wondered if there might be some names to look out for, but if he lives in USA then I guess not.
  5. I don't suppose you know the names of the 2 current riders that have ridden in the USA do you?
  6. There may be a clue in the 'Classic Matches' thread, 21CH.
  7. My thoughts exactly, Norbold.
  8. Let me guess. Swindon 40 Belle Vue 38 from 1976?
  9. So did you write the Belle Vue v Sheffield article in Edition 1 then Falcace?
  10. I thought it was. Funny thing was I could clearly remember his hair, but not the face!
  11. Left of Neil Street is Matthew Cross. Right might be Tony Langdon but not sure.
  12. Swindon team manager is former Bristol rider Dick Bradley.
  13. Weymouth picture: Bob Coles on the bike. Malcolm Shakespeare in the middle at the back, and Brian Woodward front right. The guy at the back on the left looks familiar too. It might be Doug Underwood. Then again, it might not. Not sure about Champ, but it could be Norman Hunter without a moustache. The Reading picture on 'Old Crusader' has Jan Andersson in the lead. I''l ahve to guess the others: Simon Wigg, Nigel De'Ath and Pierre Brannefors (or possibly Per Jonsson, but the padded shoulders make me go for Pierre!)
  14. I think you confirmed your nerdishness quite satisfactorily with the answer to number 17, Falcace!
  15. N , but I can find another picture of Bo if you really want.................. Thanks Grachan It's okay. I've got one of him and my mum sat on his bike together, so I don't need any more. There is a definite Bo Petersen-esque style going on in that pic though. There is! THERE IS!!! No 17 - without even looking again: Andy Hackett.
  16. The 'other' rider in 22 isn't Bo Petersen again is it?
  17. Ah, Billy Hole, my mother's hero. Funny there should be two pictures of Geoff Pymar, as he's featured in the one race I have from Knowle Stadium - See Here
  18. Hooray! I'll alert my mother.
  19. Any Bristol Bulldogs from the old Knowle days?
  20. I was there, and one of the loudest cheers of the night came when he fell off. I can't remember exactly why he was unpopular at that time, though in his favour I remember it was quite a trend in the 80s for people to boo succesful English riders and cheer on the Americans. It used to irritate me greatly to hear English crowds cheering for the opposition in the 80s so that may have had a part to play in it too.
  21. I would say that Michael was probably the most talented rider I ever saw too, and I'll never forget the time he took Phil Crump in the Golden Helmet at Swindon where he not only beat him but totally took the p***. I agree that, by being a bit of an idiot, he deprived us of many years of watching a master in action, but obviously he deprived himself more and it was great TV watching walking out of Test matches because of the Tape touching rule, without which I would never have heard Carl Glover ever say: 'Michael does tend to go off like a bottle of pop.' He said at the time that Speedway was being spoiled by stupid regulations, and I guess he turned out to be right even if the one he was complaining about did turn out to be one of the better ones that was brought in.
  22. I remember Geoff. A very exciting 100% effort rider. No idea what he's up to, although I did notice he'd signed someone's internet guestbook once. I can't remember whose though. My mum fell over at White City once and Geoff was among those who helped her get back up - it made her day!
  23. Yeah. On 1974 final form Anders Michanek would have probably beaten the lot of 'em. How about Egon Muller on 1983 form? That would upset the applecart.
