  1. So what will happen to the averages of riders who rode EL last year and didn't get a team this year? Eg if Holder doesn't get a side will he revert to his old average that will probably be lower than KK or Hans?
  2. Never seen either of these two so only know what I have read. Both seem to have some potential to improve, but in the end if you sign a 4 point premier league rider that is what you get. We're not close to Poole or Rye House but not any worse than Coventry. A lot of unknown quality in the side, but they are riders on the way up so hopefully the side will gel and do ok, but not particularly inspiring. Will these be the reserves?
  3. If we are at PL level now (which I agree we are) how is it relevant that Morris failed to score 6 points as an EL heatleader?
  4. Coventry, to me, look poor. Danny King at no 1? Can be very good but can also chuck a couple of lasts in for good measure. The reserves may turn out to be the best in the league but only because the top 5 is weak. How are clubs supposed to get fans in with the teams being unveiled this year? I worry for the future of this sport. Main thing with Coventry, though, is making sure the side has somewhere to race.
  5. When you buy a house there is an inventory of fixtures and fittings that gets completed by the seller. Surely the same would apply here? Who is the current owner that is apparently asset stripping? Is it Sandhu?
  6. What else can they do if, as people are saying, Mick Horton is in America. I can't help but wonder if this is being done now deliberately now while he is away. What sort of person would agree to rent out a stadium and then, after the agreement, go in and take out all the fixtures and fittings? Imagine if you signed a tenancy on a flat and then, when you moved in, all the light fittings, electrics etc had been removed. There must be laws against that, surely. I wonder if something has gone on behind the scenes for this to happen.
  7. KK is on an over 11 average. For me I'd say Holder is worth more than a point and a half over Kasprzak - particularly as people were saying the 'old Holder' was back last year. It would still have given Poole plenty to play with in the remaining riders.
  8. Get some Poles on site. They'll soon get it bult.
  9. That is clearly referring to averages that come into effect once the riders get new averages next year.
  10. Doyle was coming back from injury last year too, but didn't do too badly. Swindon's biggest worry isn't Doyle coming back from injury but what will happen if he gets injured again.
  11. I see the usual suspects are all wetting their pants again. What or who did you expect? Nick didn't have a great season last year, sure. But of the 4 we've signed I'd say he is the most likely to keep to the starting average he has been signed on. This is Premier League with a 50 point limit. I saw second tier teams 10 years ago that were stronger than this year's top flight. We have the rider who was best in the World last year. Plus a 9 point PL rider in Nick Morris. Sounds about right to me. Bellago was number one for his club last year. Adam Ellis is maybe over averaged, but still a decent rider to have on board. OK, we don't look as strong as the touted Poole side - but that's par for the course for everyone every year. This is a weak league. These riders will do fine. We may pay a price for keeping a top rider in the UK, but good for Rosco for keeping it. I probably wouldn't have bothered to attend any meetings at all if Doyle had been dumped.
  12. Injuries will be key this year due to the stupid 'no change after July' rule. That's crazy. Teams could find their crowds halved if they lose riders and can't replace them. If Swindon lose Doyle they are stuffed.
  13. Today Swindon would be: M. Ashby, Adams, P. Crump, Silver, McConnell, Kilby, Nilsen For Sheffield I'd probably go for riders that entertained me during a brief spell where Sheffield was the track I regularly attended: Carl Stonehewer, Sean Wilson, Simon Stead, Andre Compton, Derrol Keats, Ricky Ashworth, Andrew Moore. Halifax & Belle Vue - Don't care. Reading: Michanek (Boooo) Davis (Booooo) Jonsson (Booooo) Wiltshire (Boooo) Janusz Janusz Janusz Kolodziez (Booooo) Dave Jessup (Booooo) Martin Ashby (hoorayyy) Oxford: Dag Lovaas, Bob Kilby, Hans Nielsen, Martin Yeates, John Davis, Jimmy Nilsen, Lukas Dryml.
  14. I was working in Sheffield recently and forced into some lunchtime small talk with the guy I was doing work for. So I asked if he ever went to the speedway. His answer was not surprising. He used to! He said they used to be one of the top clubs in the country when he used to go, but he doesn't go now as they're not very good now. Then he said that Belle Vue were the top team in those days, but they've shut down now. I think this says something of speedway promotion. He had no idea they had moved to the greyhound stadium and had no idea that a new stadium had recently opened. So, in a pub, someone would probably say Belle Vue used to be but they shut down years ago. I don't think there is any doubt that Poole Pirates would be the most famous club now - though not exactly a household name in the world of sport.
  15. Take a look at other sides being put together, Sidney. These Poole options actually look quite decent. Scary isn't it!
  16. If Doyle gets, say, 17 from 5 including a TR ride he's scored to his average. I don't care for Hampel at all. Doyle is our number one and as far as I'm concerened we need to keep him and the league needs to keep him and I'm glad he's still in the side. The back up is looking a bit iffy though - and it's not just because we have Jason. Having said that, when you look at the riders available, there aren't so many options and other teams may strugge for strength too as we get used to now being a PL side. Rye House look good on paper (although all their top 5 are probably on the way down so maybe they flatter to deceive?), and the Poole teams being put forward look quite decent at this level - but Chris Holder is probably gone from the league and may, now, never come back, Was it worth it? For me, no. No. Swindon need Jason Doyle, not Jarek Hampel. As long as we ride well at home and don't get relegated at least we will have achived that. But when all teams are put together it may turn out that Swindon suddenly don't look as weak as they currently do.
  17. Slightly off topic, but hey, so is Poole slightly off topic so what the heck. Has anyone bought the "Memories of Swindon Speedway" DVD? An advert for it came up on my Facebook page. Is it worth getting?
  18. When were we told that? I don't think we were.
  19. Actually, for me, I think they should have gone even more top heavy once getting Doyle in. Give us a really solid top 2, with a back up that could have chipped in. We were always going to struggle lower down the team, but at least we are keeping one of the top riders in the World riding in Britain. I agree with Doyle not being unbeatable. He's good for 13 a meeting I reckon. That's a 10.40. It can also include a 5-1 against him! I think Rosco is going for riders he likes and to hell with their averages. Hopefully it will work out.
  20. If Nick is going to be on a 2015 PL average then, presumably, he would need to sign for a second division club first before doubling up with Swindon. Could this be why he hasn't been announced in the side yet? I expect that rule to have been scrapped now, anyway, with the averages being as they are now. Will be interesting to see if anything pans out though.
  21. So basically you could have the Swindon side in the top league, replace Jason Doyle with a 3 pointer, and otherwise have exactly the same team in the lower league. Maybe we should have a side in both leagues and double up with ourselves.
  22. Only is the third decimal place is 5 or above surely? Otherwise it would be mathematically incorrect. In my book Harris is 9.21, but you never know.
  23. The team doesn't look too strong from 2 downwards and a lot of emphass is on Jason Doyle this year. One thing I do hope is that he steps up the team riding as I've seen him several times give up on it. If Jason team rides I'm sure he has the ability to keep a lot of the riders in this league behind him and give us some 5-1s. Also it will help keep his average down too - clearly something that needs to be done after what's happened this year. I don't know much about Bellego, although I remember him having a good guest booking for us a while back. A lot of people at that time thought he was someone we should sign so worth having - but it's those averages again.
  24. No it isn't. We don't start until June and will be over by the end of August.
