Kevin The figures i posted are for League and KO Cup only, taken out of the Speedway Star's winter reviews. Jan Andersson was an ever-present in the league that year (24 matches) and also appeared in each of Racers' six KO Cup matches. No doubt you'll be interested in my update book of records from 1991-date. It attempts to continue where the Peter Oakes' History of the British League concluded in 1990 and will include all the stats and details of the last 15 years. It will include yearly rider and club stats, tables, cup results, test matches etc. Since I've been compiling it I've been surprised at how much I've forgotten about the past 15 years!

Hawk I think that incident by the two PCs happened at Exeter in 1984.

Malcolm Simmons and Mark Courtney were also named in the revelations.

The Speedway History Magazine does have a website, and it also contains quite a few other useful mags from the Speed-away promotions' stable. You will find it here: http://www.speed-awaypromotions.com/ I believe the email address has changed from earlier releases as well - email: oriolecy@btinternet.com

I wonder how many times he has heard that! I received my copy of the new Speedway History Magazine this morning and was impressed. The paper, text and picture (colour and bw) quality are a vast improvement on The Speedway Years, which I presume, will be revamped now a different printer has come on board. The Speedway History Magazine also has some fine contributions from the likes of Dick Barrie (remember him?), Cyril Hart and Glynn Shailes included. My honest opinion is that it is one of Speed-away Promotions finest offerings - and I practically have them all - and is a necessity for those, like me, who will always dig a little deeper in the pocket for a slice of nostalgia. FenTiger76, I would re-subscribe if I were you.

Simon came with Exeter to Belle Vue in the mid-90s. In one heat, he came out wearing an entirely yellow helmet colour and not the regulated yellow and black. Over the pa, the announcer informed Wiggy that he must wear a yellow and black cover or face being fined. Anyway, Simon took the warning and rode off back to the pits, moments later returning to the start line with the words “Hi ref” on the same yellow cover, customized in black sticky tape.

The reason was because the Aces were riding away that night and the promotion didn't want a blank date.

Arnie Haley is sadly no longer with us.

As a pre-teen, despite watching the likes of Peter Collins, Chris Morton and Soren Sjosten in the Aces' side, it was second-string Paul Tyrer who became - and remains - my all-time favourite. He was a classy, sleek rider who tragically failed to reach his expected potential after a 1974 injury. He was a 7.50-point rider then, but really went downhill after leaving Belle Vue for King's Lynn in '77, averaging less than a point a ride at Saddlebow Road. I remember how disillusioned I was when he left Hyde Road to join the Stars, but kept a close eye on his career until his premature retirement in 1979, aged just 26. I recall him being such a stylish rider, clad in his yellow and black chequered, ATS (Associated Tyre Specialist) sponsored leathers. Supporting Tyrer was like supporting a football team - I’d be over the moon if he racked up a good score, or really depressed if he didn't. On too many occasions I ended up coming home from speedway on a right downer... despite Belle Vue roasting the opposition! Sad I know. But give us a break... I was only 12!

Danish Grand Prix - Copenhagen
moxey63 replied to Subedei's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
The most boring ever. I really think the system for this year has ruined it. You can have one, possibly two, bad rides and still make the semis. It is too comfy for the riders, unlike the elimination heats from previous years. I find that I'm falling to sleep more and more when speedway's on tele.
