  1. Shazzybird It hasn't arrived as yet but Tony is sending out another copy . Every morning I open my front door and expect to see old Mr. Postie sat on my step, reading my Backtrack.
  2. I liked Hackney - the racing was brilliant there. Just got a feeling my postman's an ex-Hackney fan and must have been reading my comments on here.
  3. Does it help if I say I went to Hackney once, it was '76 when the Aces got a last race Wilkie-Mort 5-1 to win the match, Plech a maximum for the Hawks. It may go against me however, saying Hawks lost. Tony, where is MY BACKTRACK?
  4. Not too happy that issue 17 is on sale on ebay before some subscribers even receive it.
  5. Mine still has to arrive. Tick follows toc...
  6. Have you got to be an Hackney supporter to get Backtrack first?
  7. When was the latest Backtrack posted? Mine hasn't arrived yet (the postman has recently been broadsiding his pushbike up the path as well).
  8. I always get mixed up with MOney For Speed and this film: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0023845/
  9. From my forthcoming History of British Speedway book 1991-2006, I unearthed this. Rye House rider Martin Goodwin threw his crash helmet through the glass window of the referee’s box during his side’s match at Hackney on May 3. It came after his second exclusion of the night. Goodwin was subsequently suspended for the rest of the season and forced to pay £900 costs.
  10. Hi Roger I am really excited about this latest project. I have in the past compiled home produced yearbooks for 1958, 1965, 1966, 1970, 1975 and 2000 as well as one for Scunthorpe 1971-85. But working on the 1991-2006 book really has me excited. Norbold has given me a bit of help to be going on with, but I will take your advice for future reference.
  11. Did you receive my pm, Norbold?
  12. Statistical buffs out there may be interested in this one. I have just about completed an update of averages and records since the conclusion of Peter Oakes's 65-90 book. My book will cover all years 1991-2006 and has everything Oakes' book has - averages, tables, results, tests, stories of the year, etc. At the moment I don't know whether to have the book done by somebody like Tempus. Any ideas?
  13. Steve It's the full volume that I'm after. Can you help?
  14. Hi Tim Also sorry to hear about your dad. The thing is not to throw them in some skip. I would be happy to purchase volume 4 (1955/56) of Speedway Star if it's there, or Speedway News Vol 13 (1946/47)
  15. What annoys me is the changing of the 3, 2, 1, 0. The old T/S was a much fairer way and you didn't have to award a rider double points just because he was wearing a different helmet colour. It was a level playing field for everyone. Perhaps a much better way than the Golden Double is to allow the side that does fall a certain amount of points in arrears to be able to name a rider from the leading team to go back on a handicap. I can't see the chosen riders being happy though.
  16. Don't know if it's been said, but I feel the GD kills a match dead. I feel there are more races being thrown as teams try to stay less than nine in front. Then when you do fall nine in arrears the fightback depends on what riders you have programmed before you use the GD. The old 6 points in arrears was best as a side could use more of its resources in an attempt to pull back. To me, the GD has tarnished speedway's image even further, plus it's crap. If the rule was brought in to save money, why bother with the heat 15 nominated race. We already see the same riders in heat 13. In fact, to save cash, go back to 13 heats. But that's another grumble.
  17. Thanks, Gresham. A real fan wouldn't do that.
  18. Gresham Who ripped the autograph up - Paul or the fan?
  19. The Paul Tyrer story was of special interest, being a huge fave of mine back in the 70s, when Belle Vue was masive.
  20. Hey! Swindon fans, do you think Lee Richardson's using your club the same way? Maybe he'll be Premier in 2007!
  21. Loved the comment by Moxey63, by the way!!!
  22. Are you sure it's his signature and he didn't pay somebody to do it for him?
  23. Didn't he also blame Erik Gundersen's horrific crash at one point as his reason for not wanting to ride?
  24. Simmo quit racing at the end of 1987, had a year promoting at King's Lynn in 1988, then made a comeback with Arena Essex in 1989. If my memory serves me, he spent half his time at AE on the injured list. Simmo also made a two match return for King's Lynn in 1993. Simmons 1993 2 8 3 0 3 1.50 - -
