Please excuse my error, Kevin, I was speaking geographically. I had no idea the ACU operated under a different system. -

Thanks for the information, Tarabanko. Just one error though - Cardiff is in Wales UK, not England UK. Being the British Grand Prix it could, in theory, be held in Egland, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. Sadly, only Wales has an arena that is large enough to host such a massive event. -
Spook, Orion is one of the stars of our firmament on here. You really need to look behind and beyond what he writes and see the twinkle in his eyes. I'd best not make any comments about heavenly bodies though! You would be well advised not to make spirited comments such as the above. They could return to haunt you. Ron.

Bydgoszcz Gp Chat Thread

Hopes raised and dashed within a nanosecond. When I read the first two words of that I thought the guy had finally hung up his.......? -
World Championship Final. Empire Stadium, Wembley. 1949 Winner: Tommy Price [England & Wembley Lions] Second: Jack Parker [England & Belle Vue Aces] Third: Louis Lawson [England & Belle Vue Aces] This is the only time in the history of the sport that, to my knowledge, the World Championship Final rostrum has been tenanted by three men from the same country. I think it's also the only time when two riders from the same English club have stood side by side on the plinth. Those three men were not only from England - they were all members of the England international team. It was reported in both the speedway and national press of the time that the Empire Stadium was filled to its 90,000 capacity. I wish you could all have been there to share that wonderful day with me. Ron

Abyone know anything about the opposition - and who they are?

The best tribute I can pay to Les is that I don't have a single bad memory of him. I feel that it would be difficult to find anyone in speedway who has.
-
From what I've observed all speedway forums dealing wit match reports, team and rider news are not dual language - if that is what you mean by 'international forums' Joester. Very frustrating - but understanable.

I threw away my slide rule at the end of my student days. I don't feel that any of us would want to be in a position where we have to take a laptop with us to follow the progress of meetings Scrap both versions of tactical substitutes and tactical ride rules and let's get back to simple 3-2-1 scoring. There are other television led innovations I would like to see abolished but I can't see it happening any more than I can imagine the tactical rules disappearing over the horizon. Regrettably 'our' sport has been sold to the highest bidder - Sky Television. I am fortunate in that I remember the far distant days when the governing body of speedway, the promoters and everyone on the other side of the fence put on meetings primarily for the benefit of the club supporters. Halcyon days they were. Ron.

2006 World Champion: Jason Crump
Ron Butler replied to -DelBoyRodders-'s topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Sadly so, Macca, but we must not let them come between us!!! Occasionally though I get the impression that there are some on here who take pleasure in displaying their lack of intellect Stay well - stay happy, Ron. -

Points taken, Macca, but my comment was not aimed at you personally but at all who use that type of phrase in referring to various riders. I accept that you could qualify as the exception to the rule regarding Jason. -
Tony Millard!

Are we to understand, Macca, that you are a tad displeased with Mr Millard's efforts to entertain -
2006 World Champion: Jason Crump
Ron Butler replied to -DelBoyRodders-'s topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
It would seem that some people can't even congratulate the man on his achivement without adding a spiteful phrases such 'not one of my favourite riders' or 'I've never particularly liked him' I wonder if this is inspired by envy because Jason Crump does not ride for their particular team. I congratulate Mr Crump on his win without reservation irrespective of the fact that he rides for the team I follow. I have always been a speedway supporter rather than a fan of Belle Vue. I find I enjoy the sport much more because of that. -
I note, Subei, that Mr Crump was the only actually unbeaten rider in those several matches. There's no stopping the guy. As a Mancunian that makes me deliriously happy! Ron.
-
Sorry, I can't find the 'main question' only a little supposition! I wonder which rider will have the most threads dedicated to him before the end of the season- Crump or Andersen - perhaps even Nicki Pedersen who seems to have moved out of the spotlight recently. Joe Public

Expats & Absent Friends, Here is the link to the Manchester Evening News report on Jason's happy night out in Prague: http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/spo...orld_title.html There are also a couple of good pics of Mr Crump 'celebrating' which, unfortunately, have not been included in the report. Might be worth you getting a copy of the newspaper, if you are able, it's worth it for the pics alone. Incidentally, a brief report and one picture are on the main sports page [back] with a detailed report inside. Superb coverage. Ron. -

Hi Fudge, Yes, Rune Holta rode on a Polish licence last year. I read recently that he had fallen out with the Polish authorities - or they with him - so now he's again riding under his true nationality. Hope evrything is OK with you, Ron. -

Perhaps without being aware of it, Salty, you have hit on the cause of he problem. Sky Sports don't have enough left over to pay for a speedway commentator! -

Fortunately, Biddows, Millard apparently didn't think to do so. He would probably have had Jason born 100% in Brisbane which would have been a shock to Mrs [Pat?] Crump who, I assure you, was in Bristol at the time.
