  1. Twice nightly at 6.00 and 8.00 live on stage at the London Palladium?
  2. It wouldn't be the first time that Jon has ridden for Belle Vue, Rami. Some years ago he regularly appeared in the Elite team.
  3. Can Belle Vue 'Colts' be added to the list, please. The promoters confirmed their intention to run at the recent National League AGM. I don't the names of any riders yet but there are a thriving bunch of eager lads who regularly ride second-halves at Manchester.
  4. Belle Vue have now officially confirmed that they will be running a team - Belle Vue 'Colts' - in the 2011 National League. Whilst this primarily to aid the development of their present juniors it may be that they would need some men with greater experience to fill a gap or two.
  5. I fear that any further downturn could, to all intents and purposes, prove terminal.
  6. Could be rephrased as 'About time some had a clout behind them'? I jest! Ron.
  7. I haven't read or heard any reports that it has.
  8. Thanks for the info, Shawn. I didn't know that. It's a really good rule though. Regards, Ron.
  9. So German nationals are barred from competing in British speedway - are they?
  10. Yes, KBT, I feel that the club should be granted a facility and that the rider concerned should be penalised. Best though that we leave it to the Lord to choose who should be 'discipled'.
  11. Belle Vue can only ride home matches on Monday or Wednesday (occasionally Sunday afternoon). The GRA - stadium owners- require all other times for greyhound racing.
  12. has not set status

  13. You have my deepest sympath Youn Dietbowers. I can offer no consolation! It gets worse. I know that because I'm 27 years older than you and evry time I sit at my keyborad thekeys are in a diifferent order than the last time. The result? My daft compewter churns out rubbish - as yew can sea. It's all very sad and I don't know what the remedy is - if there is one With sympathy, Ron. BTW: This is a consignment of geriatic shoemakers! (a load of old cobblers)
  14. What an interesting picture of the meanderings of the mind. Would you like the contact number of my psychologist friend?
  15. Must have been very gruelling for those early pioneers of our sport. Picture, if you can, the 21st century rider doing sixty laps without breaks. Perhaps it was Norman Norbold-Jacobs and his hairy bikers who declared war on wayward journalists on 1st September 1939. It certainly wasn't Neville Chamberlain he expressed His Majesty's government's disapproval of the actions of Herr Adolf Hitler on the third of the month. Just shows that the Daily Mail isn't the only purveyor of the 'truth' which must be read with a selective attitude!
  16. As an old codger of 77 years I remember Chad as an integral part of my childhood. He was a very popular cartoon type character consisting of a hairless male head complete with a large nose and a pair of hands peering over a brick wall and commenting on the extreme shortage of essentials to daily life such as cigarettes, beer, and chocolate etc. The caption read 'Wot no beer!' (or other greatly missed essential of daily life.] Chad appeared officially in newspapers and unofficially in places where we schoolkids could reproduce him with the aid of a piece of chalk provided (unofficially!) by 'Teacher'. Mr Chad did much to relieve the dark days of World War Two for a multitude of people. You could say he was something of a national pin-up. Perhaps the use of this character on the Liverpool team colours was linked to the fact that the town docks were the once busy port through which such delights of life no longer flowed.
  17. I remember Jimmy making his debut in the sport at Wembley. He wrote a weekly column entitled Diary of a Novice in the Speedway Gazette (I think it was the Gazette)
  18. Aussie double World Speedway Champion Jack Young became a truck driver.
  19. After the passing of so many decades, Speedyguy, I feel that a more appropriate Latin tag is ........ad nauseum!
  20. Incredible - absolutely beyond belief! Didn't the rider know the stairs were there? Did he not walk the track before the meeting?
  21. Thoughts with which I agree, Ian. Sadly, there appear to be many people who interpret the concept of free speech as a licence to say whatever they wish regardless of the hurt or damage they may cause to others.
  22. As I said in my earlier contribution on this topic, this is entirely a matter for the Galvin family. I note the change in tone by some contributors. However, my feelings have not changed. Whatever, the FACTS of Andy's situation further discussion could hurt Cortney and the rest of her family. I urge someone on the moderating team to immediately close this thread and any more that may be opened on the subject of Mr Galvin - other than on his activity as an active speedway rider. Mod Note: There is no reason for this thread to be closed, it is a public matter in the public domain
  23. He probably let young Proctor win just to encourage the lad!
  24. As a Briton it saddens me say that I feel it highly unlikely that Scotland could possibly put together a team of true Scots strong enough to mount a meaningful challenge to any of the nations who presently contest the World Cup.
  25. Well said Cortney! There are some sad people on here who take pleasure in kicking a man while he's down. Please don't let what they say upset you. Fortunately they are in a small minority, most of us are ordinary decent people. Like I said in my post your dad has not been tried on any charge. So unless he is found guilty by a jury in a court of law he is as innocent as you are. This is a matter for the Galvin family and no-one else I feel. Sadly because your dad was once a well known rider he's easy meat for those small minded people. You are obviously a loyal and loving daughter and I admire you for coming on here and so vigorously defending your dad. I hope he is cleared of all charges and is soon back home with you and the rest of the family. Kind regards Cortney, Ron.
