Birmingham are certainly doing their bit to give youngsters a chance and give them track time . They have had British Youth rounds, staged the British u 19 and 21 meetings. The club are forerunners in getting kids out on track on REVVI bikes, have 125cc and 250cc chances and demo rides, now putting three sides in the MDL plus putting out a side in the NDT in 2025 .

2025 MDL contested by three teams The 2025 MIDLAND DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE will have three teams vying for the title . There were high hopes that three more clubs would be lining up in the league but unfortunately each of them have been unable to. The three teams in the 2025 competition will all run out of Birmingham’s Perry Barr circuit . The Bulls, the Buffaloes and the Wolves will race each other “home and away” twice giving each side eight fixtures. Utilising the four National Development trophy meeting for the DUCTAIR Bulls , eight further Monday night Premiership fixtures will have MDL clashes, whilst most meetings will have second half action. The third side will carry the Wolves name with the permission of Chris Van Straaten which Birmingham thank him for. MDL co-ordinator Laurence Rogers is pleased that the youngsters will have the opportunity to race under league conditions in teams. He commented, “ I have tried to keep this competition going to give some of the youngsters valuable track time. When the three possible tracks were unable to confirm being able to join in I looked at keeping things going by running three sides out of Perry Barr. We have a close connection with the Formula Grass Track Association and a lot of the young lads have progressed in to riding speedway as well . I knew we had sufficient riders to run the three teams so it was all steam ahead. CVS has kindly let me use the Wolves name for the third side and it’s good to keep the name alive as he searches for a new venue for the club.” Most of the youngsters who rode in 2024 will be back with some now also securing National League team spots whilst a few newcomers reaching 15 will now come into contention for rides in the MDL. BIRMINGHAM boss Chris Adams has revealed the club are in advanced talks with a third heat-leader. The Brummies have already announced five members of their side including proven Premiership points scorer Tobiasz Musielak, former Grand Prix star Matej Zagar and Keynan Rew who missed out on a medal in the curtailed Australian Championships by a single point earlier this week. Dane Jonas Jeppesen and Rising Star reserve Jason Edwards have also joined the Second City side leaving the Brummies with two spots to fill. Said Adams: “All over the seasonal period we have been working hard to try and sort out our final signings. “I can confirm that before Christmas we were speaking to three riders that I feel could fill that role as a No.3 and who I believe could also challenge for the No.1 spot. “But we are now in the final stages of negotiations with a third heat-leader and I’m hoping we can get pen to paper in the next week or so and an announcement by the end of January, if not sooner. “I’ve said from the start that as a club we wanted to bring the best that we can to the track next season that is possible. “If you want to compete at this level, you need to be going further afield and this comes with more planning, more organising and more costs. “I think if we can put pen to paper with our final rider in the next week or so then we shall be in a position to finish off with our last signing; I’ve got a good idea on who I want that to be but I just need to wait to see what happens.” More from Adams an be read in the latest issue of ‘Speedway Star’ (Week Ending January 11), available to purchase online now via: speedwaystar.net/store/magazines

Darryl Ritchings average is 5.00

BIRMINGHAM have completed their National Development Trophy side for the 2025 season. Max James and Sam McGurk will join Darryl Ritchings, Arran Butcher, Tom Spencer, Eli Meadows and Senna Summers with Max Broadhurst named the Ductair Bulls’ official No.8. Team Manager Laurence Rogers said: “Max James rode for the Buffaloes in the 2023 Midland Development League notching two maximums and ended with a 10.67 average. “He took some big steps in the right direction with Leicester in the National Development League this year and he’ll be a key rider for us. “Sam McGurk is only 18 and for me he is a highly promising youngster. “He gained a lot more experience with Workington this year and he’ll really kick on from that next season I think. “I’m glad we’ve been able to bring in Max Broadhurst as the Bulls’ No.8 - he was a Buffalo in 2024, he’s secured an NDL spot with Oxford and it’s going to be good to have him as part of the squad.”

For Birmingham .. Tom Spencer, Arran Butcher and Senna Summers

BIRMINGHAM have added three riders to their National Development Trophy side - and all have a connection with the club. Arran Butcher is already an official asset who has previously ridden for the Brummies in the National Development League as well as for the Ductair Bulls in the MDL. He was also mechanic for Freddie Lindgren during his time at Perry Barr in 2024 and has now invested heavily in his own equipment for next term. Tom Spencer is another rider who has also represented the Bulls in the past whilst Senna Summers is the son of former Brummie Aaron Summers. Ductair Bulls Team Manager Laurence Rogers said: “Not only will these be three solid signings for our NDT team, but it’s also nice that they’ve got some form of association with Birmingham already. “Arran is the one people will be most familiar with I’m sure and he had a really good year for Leicester in the NDL last season. “Tom had his first rides at the training schools I used to run at Peterborough and again he showed some of his true potential for Leicester this year. “Senna is another rider improving all the time and interestingly, he actually made his competitive racing debut in the MDL for Redcar against the Birmingham Bulls! “Adding those three to Darryl (Ritchings) and Eli (Meadows) gives us an interesting side so far with two spaces now to fill.”

ELI Meadows is the second rider to sign up for Birmingham’s National Development Trophy side. The 20-year-old is no stranger to Perry Barr having been a second-half regular in recent seasons. He represented the club in this year’s Midland Development League where he averaged 11.45, the highest figure at that level. He’ll also be racing for the Leicester Lion Cubs in the National Development League in 2025 and Ductair Bulls team manager Laurence Rogers says Meadows deserves his team place. “His stats for us in the MDL this year were superb,” Rogers said. “He rode seven meetings, had 22 rides and scored 63 points - that’s pretty amazing for any rider at any level. “He’s a good kid and again I think he’ll only benefit and keep progressing with the extra bike time he’s going to be getting.” Meadows signed his deal at the Supporters’ Club Christmas Party on Friday where Tom Brennan, who has since moved to Ipswich, claimed a clean sweep of honours for his performances for the Brummies in the 2024 ROWE Motor Oil Premiership.
