  1. If it makes you feel better, the parking prices for the 2023 Baseball World Series were $220-$320 - per game...
  2. Didn't we discuss the Bovril factory a few months ago? EDIT: Yes we did! Steve mentioned it back in March, but from what I could find, there never was one in Hackney. It seems that there was a Fray Bentos factory there, which could have been the source of the smell. Lesney had a large complex on Eastway, by Hackney marshes.
  3. Don't think he was a Sunderland specialist either. In 1964, he scored five points from four rides. As far as I can see, that is the only time he rode there...
  4. Yep, on June 21, alongside such notables as Bob Kilby, Sandor Levai, Roy Bowers, and Malcolm Simmons...
  5. Closest I've found so far was Glasgow (ironically) at Long Eaton in 1984, when three riders scored all but one point (1, and three ducks). Same for Coventry at Wimbledon in 1966, and Belle Vue against West Ham in 1967. All Belle Vue's points against Cradley in 1968 were scored by three riders, but as they were operating R/R, only three riders failed to score.
  6. Stats like that fascinate me! In fact, I think I even asked that question on here a few years ago? I'll have to do some digging...
  7. We didn't have Social Media back then, so it wasn't mandatory...
  8. You sound like me! I find stats and facts "interesting", and I would class myself as an anorak! However, I think it's stupid when people always claim a definite correlation between facts, like "He only won because it was at...", and, "They wouldn't have done that if it was at...". Just because Alan Emmett was top of the Div 1 averages in 1973 doesn't mean he was the best rider...
  9. Good thing the World Final wasn't held at Wembley every year, eh?
  10. I loved Old English Spangles. I always wanted a bike and sidecar. Still do, actually... I remember prefabs. I remember the National Anthem played when the telly closed down at night. I remember when we had speedway in London...
  11. Nobody on here is THAT old, are they?
  12. You do realize that the younger forum members won't have a clue what you just said?
  13. From checking Brian's website, that was my conclusion. Again, that is what I figured. Thanks peeps, I appreciate your help!
  14. It's on Speedway Scrapbook, but here is a link to it on the historicNZ website (top left) https://www.historicspeedway.co.nz/Moore, Ronnie.htm
  15. Brian's website was one of the first places I checked! As I said though, I knew he was still riding for Australia in 1953, but the guy was adamant that he was representing New Zealand in the World Championship before then - which made no sense! Thanks. Incidentally, is anyone familiar with the photo I'm talking about? It said "World Championship", but I'm just not convinced...
  16. Thank you so much, Norman! That was exactly why I tagged you! I was 99% certain that he represented Aussie in at least the first three years, so now I can go back and tell the guy he was wrong...
  17. I usually provide answers in this section, but here, I am seeking one! This has bugged me for years, and I haven't been able to find a definitive answer. When did Ronnie Moore actually start representing New Zealand? I'm having a discussion with someone on Facebook at the moment. There was a painting of Ronnie (taken from a famous photo), and the guy wanted to know why the painting showed an Australian body-colour rather than a New Zealand one.The caption on the original photo (with Ronnie pulling a locker ahead of Jack Young and Freddie Williams) states that it was from a 1951 World Championship event. I don't think so; I get the feeling that it was from a Test Match - although I could be wrong. I explained that he represented Australia until 1953 or so, before switching to New Zealand. He argued, saying that he represented New Zealand in the World Championship in 1950 and 51. Why would he represent New Zealand in the World Championship when he was riding for Australia in Test Matches? Does anybody have a World Final programme from the early 50's where it actually states that he is representing Australia? I've seen programme covers, but I've never seen any inside pages/info. I did find an Australian newspaper that said he was riding as an Australian, but I don't consider that conclusive proof. Norbold? BL65?
  18. "Rory Dingo" sounds like a Paul Hogan character!
  19. You "forum loons" are all the same...
  20. Kids of today have no concept of what we had to do with old cars, do they? These days, one poxy sensor can disable the car; in our day, half the bloody car could be missing, but we were still able to drive it!
  21. That's why I didn't say "they WEREN'T"!
  22. Firstly, I wouldn't think that Fred and Bernie Collier were brothers; Bernie was born 18 years after Fred. Sadly, Fred passed away in June 2012. He was 70. My dad actually saw Lew Grepp ride! It was Good Friday, 1958, when Belle Vue visited Plough Lane. Lew fell in his first ride, and though he had a few rides later in the year, it was effectively a career-ending crash. Lew passed away on August 22, 2022, at the age of 91. He has been suffering from Parkinson's disease for a number of years. Leo passed away March 4, 2004, at the age of 76.
  23. Off the top of my head, what about Stan Tebby and Stan Bear?
  24. So you may think! At least I didn't have that poxy drive down Mile End Road to get to Plough Lane!
