  1. From what I can see, the following NL riders from 1964 are still with us are : George Major, Colin McKee, Ove Fundin, Billy Bales, Trevor Hedge, Jim Lightfoot, Rick France, Jim Yacoby, Bill Powell, Norman Nevitt, Barry Briggs, Mike Broadbank, Martin Ashby, John Bishop, Mike Keen, Eddie Reeves, Reg Luckhurst, Bjorn Knutson, Stan Stevens, Norman Hunter, Ray Cresp, Alf Hagon, Sverre Harrfedlt, Gote Nordin, Roy Trigg,.
  2. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Col Cottrell passed away in 1982...
  3. Just digressing a little, it's an interesting comment that you made, Bob, about certain riders being forgotten - particularly English world finalists. It's not unusual to see stories about the old'uns, but names like Jim Lightfoot, Dick Fisher, Brian Brett, and George White are often ignored.
  4. Unfortunately, I'm not as old as you lot, so I don't actually have any memories of Jim. I'm sure I would have seen him ride, but I was only five when he retired...
  5. The thing to remember is that the cost of a Chromecast is minimal, and you can actually use it for a lot more than just the GP's. Possibly the best $35 I've ever spent!
  6. Sad news. When I went down to a press day at Plough Lane in the early 2000's, I had a nice little chat with Dennis. Nice guy...

    Dave Hemus

Dammit, another one gone... I used to like Dave; a very underrated rider.
  8. Not actual "pairs" (it was the three person team/pairs event), but Patrick and Roy Verbrugge rode for the Netherlands in the qualification group in 1994. Before anyone says it, we know about brothers-in-law (Niemi/Koponen and Loram/Louis)...
  9. Yes, Ted was team manager, but you asked how many "rode" for Wimbledon.
  10. Another one from my childhood... Very sad.
  11. Is there a problem with that?
  12. For a start... Roger, Peter, and Alan Johns Jamie and Jeremy Luckhurst Tommy and Bo Jansson Bob and Eric Dugard Kelvin and Neville Tatum
  13. For years growing up, I obviously knew about Ray, but it was difficult to find much info about him. I'm really loving the fact that it's becoming so much more accessible.
  14. Not sure why you think nothing has been built on it. Once the place was closed, housing went up pretty quickly.
  15. I'd like to see what is going to happen in darts; the Russians are totally dominating the Youth game. In the boys' world rankings, they fill 2nd through 6th, and have another five in the Top 20. In the girls', they have eight out of the Top 10 (including 1st through 4th), and a further seven in the Top 20.
  16. There is a reason why he hasn't, hint, hint...
  17. Before you come on here and ask a question, always Google it first. You may well get your answers there...

  19. Of course; they need their hydration breaks. And gloves when there's a slight chill in the air...

    Mexico

I noticed that too. It's unlikely that there would be two riders of that name at the same time. Edit: I haven't found anything concrete on Cec himself, but I found an article that states Cec's son Ty rode at Tijuana.
  21. Dammit! I kept thinking of him, but I forgot last year!
  22. But that was a "cool" name! Look at all the youngsters that it attracted to the sport!
  23. Yeah, but that's not why football was better back then. It's the quality of the footage and extra camera angles that makes watching modern sport (particularly speedway) so wonderful. The reason football was better back then is because it was played by men. No playing for penalties, diving, playing balls back to the keeper, reluctance to attack and take on defenders, and general niggly crap... I watch old matches on YouTube regularly.
  24. It certainly seems that Oxford are back this year! There are a lot of rumours - mostly negative - about what us happening at Swindon, but apparently, they are planning on 2023.
