I may hold the forum record for the YOUNGEST speedway fan; I was three weeks old when I first went to Plough Lane in August 1962...
-
Fortunately, the vast majority of us are not... I for one have missed you.
-
I am in total shock... Nigel was a good friend, and a lovely, lovely guy. Of course, he covered darts as well as speedway, but speedway was his main love. It's not often you are lucky enough to get a true fan as a great commentator, but we were very fortunate. R.I.P. mate...

I only went to Halifax once, but I remember peering over the fence on turn one, and the banking made me think it was a huge wall-of-death! The racing when I went wasn't brilliant either, but then were crap! We lost 56-22... I used to enjoy my visits to Odsal, and racing was decent.

You asked that question last month, and nobody knows of any...
-
Must admit, I'd never heard of that! I looked, and it's mentioned here... http://www.guskuhn.net/GKuhn/Wimbledon/WimbledonSpeedway.htm

Well, I believe that "The Throstles" may still be West Brom's "official" nickname. They adopted the name when they moved to The Hawthorns in 1900. However, "The Baggies" also dates back to around the same period, and was used as an unofficial nickname. It was around the 1980's that "The Baggies" seemed to become the most used, possibly because it sounded cooler! Palace changed their nickname thanks to Malcolm Allison when he was manager. He changed their colours, and also the club crest. Instead of showing the original Crystal Palace, he used an Eagle holding a ball (based on the Benfica crest).

Yeah, sounds like it could be a cache issue, or certainly something to do with KIRKYLANE's ipad...
-
Have you tried clearing the cache/rebooting it? Sometimes the cache can be a problem. Works on my Chromebook and Android phone.
-
Yeah, he did have a few meetings for Oxford - and Norwich (in the Britannia Shield), which is why i included him.

From what I can see, the following NL riders from 1964 are still with us are : George Major, Colin McKee, Ove Fundin, Billy Bales, Trevor Hedge, Jim Lightfoot, Rick France, Jim Yacoby, Bill Powell, Norman Nevitt, Barry Briggs, Mike Broadbank, Martin Ashby, John Bishop, Mike Keen, Eddie Reeves, Reg Luckhurst, Bjorn Knutson, Stan Stevens, Norman Hunter, Ray Cresp, Alf Hagon, Sverre Harrfedlt, Gote Nordin, Roy Trigg,.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Col Cottrell passed away in 1982...
-
Just digressing a little, it's an interesting comment that you made, Bob, about certain riders being forgotten - particularly English world finalists. It's not unusual to see stories about the old'uns, but names like Jim Lightfoot, Dick Fisher, Brian Brett, and George White are often ignored.
-
Unfortunately, I'm not as old as you lot, so I don't actually have any memories of Jim. I'm sure I would have seen him ride, but I was only five when he retired...
-
Sad news. When I went down to a press day at Plough Lane in the early 2000's, I had a nice little chat with Dennis. Nice guy...

Dammit, another one gone... I used to like Dave; a very underrated rider.
-
Not actual "pairs" (it was the three person team/pairs event), but Patrick and Roy Verbrugge rode for the Netherlands in the qualification group in 1994. Before anyone says it, we know about brothers-in-law (Niemi/Koponen and Loram/Louis)...
-
Yes, Ted was team manager, but you asked how many "rode" for Wimbledon.
-
Another one from my childhood... Very sad.
-
Is there a problem with that?
-
For a start... Roger, Peter, and Alan Johns Jamie and Jeremy Luckhurst Tommy and Bo Jansson Bob and Eric Dugard Kelvin and Neville Tatum

Not sure why you think nothing has been built on it. Once the place was closed, housing went up pretty quickly.
