  1. No. Race points are only used as the qualification criteria for the semis; championship points are awarded STRICTLY on finishing position. The guy who finished 3rd will ALWAYS get more than the guy who finished 4th, who will always get more than the guy who finished 5th. This is the problem, as people seem to intertwine and confuse the two. Race points aren't included in the championship standings. It doesn't matter that someone scored 15 points, and finished last in his semi; the 15 points just secured a spot in the semi - NOTHING ELSE. WHether he got a 15-point max, or scraped in with 6, it doesn't matter. If he finishes last in his semi, he will get the same points. It's no different to the old World Final system. Somebody could win the Overseas Finak with 15, and another could scrape in with 7. The important thing is that they qualified for the Inter-Continental Final, where they all start from scratch again. That's what the semis are now - it is "another round" where they all start from scratch. In what other forms of motorsport do they have no brakes? In what other forms of sport do they have 16-man round-robins?

    Fave Progs

Aamazing how many progs used cartoons of other riders in the home team colours, eh? We had Bruce Cribb in Dons colours...
  3. More in line with ANY sport - the higher you place, the more points you get! Crazy concept to a lot on here, though...
  4. Is it really that crazy when the points reflect your finishing position in the event? At least this way, the winner gets the most points, the second-place man gets more than the third-place man, etc... That didn't always happen with the old system.
  5. You mean, ANOTHER semi-final for Lambert, the guy who isn't good enough to even be in the GP's???
  6. It's hard to say, but I can tell you that the TV companies aren't always interested in what would actually be best for them...
  7. Unfortunately, while TV dictates to the sports these days, they really have no idea what the participants or spectators want/expect/deserve. It's just about ego...
  8. Can you take a hippo into a hippodrome???

I still have the programme from when I went to the Martin Hewlett Memorial...
  10. Yes he did; it was due to his green leathers. I saw him a few times, and he was fun to watch...
  11. To be honest, he should have been out in the semi. He moved, as did Woffy, yet nothing was done...
  12. Probably a good thing it went when it did; could have been bad at full speed down the straight. Dan obviously got a whack in the chest as it was...
  13. Not just publications - everything. I have a few modern bigraphies and the like, and I really have trouble reading them; most look like they have been written by a 10-year-old. As for websites, well... There is hardly a website I check that doesn't have appalling grammar or spelling, and that includes "legitimate" news sites like BBC, CNN, and most of our local TV and newspaper sites. It has to be the result of educational standards declining - partially - but a lot of it just comes down to laziness, and a lack of pride. With all the technology available, it has never been easier to spellcheck, so why are there so many mistakes?
  14. Must admit, I think I only saw him once; at the Division Two Riders Championship at Wimbledon in 1972. He was pretty impressive that night...
  15. Quite agree; we shouldn't stream anything. Why would people want to watch it? Shouldn't be televised either. Come to think of it, shouldn't have spectators; do it behind closed doors. There, solves everything...
  16. Well, you won't have to worry about him for a couple of weeks; he's on time out again because of his museum posts...
