Danish Grand Prix - Vojens - 16th Sep

As I said, most sport today is controlled by TV and sponsors. It is a rule, an UNDERSTANDABLE rule, and all the riders know of the rule. -

I was watching his line, and you could see it coming. Just surprised he didn't, and didn't try to take evasive action. -

Perhaps a lot of people on here would prefer them to ignore the rules as posted, whenever they feel like it... -

Exactly. It's the TV and the sponsors who dictate the rules these days. It's not just speedway. As you say, every rider would have been aware of the rules. -
Thanks, Bob. Yeah, it would be interesting to know - particularly if they were Type 1. Physical activity is one of the main causes of the drops.
-
Yeah, as others have said, Barney is VERY active still. He posts a helluva lot of new pics on Facebook, of himself with other old riders.

I knew he was a diabetic, but I just checked, and he was Type 1. Type 2 is far more common, is much easier to control, and even cure (by diet). Type 1 is far more serious, and infinitely more unpredictable. That is what my wife has, and it's an absolute nightmare. It's also known as "brittle diabetes", and the big problem is the sudden - and very extreme - drops in blood sugar. That's why they need to have chocolate/high sugar sweets, and fruit juice or regular coke at the ready.

Just elaborating on this... So too are the Top 3 from 1963. This is scary, but these two years are the ONLY years with a surviving Top 3 - PRIOR TO 1975! 1975 still seems so recent to me, but...

I'm sure he knows who the speedy fella is...

Valid point. Now, I just wonder how many people still alive saw speedway in 1928?

You know; tonight could be the start of a turnover. Obviously, Batsh!t Smarslick looks good for another title, but it depends on how Tia Wolfinden is able to bounce back from injury. Still the future of British speedway looks promising in the hands of Den Bowley and Rod Limpet. The Danes have not replaced Nikki Peterson, and Len Madman is struggling at the moment. The Aussies look well served by Mick Fruck and Jock Hellfire. We just need some new riders whose names are easier for speedway fans to spell. Not that spelling seems to be important these days...

He died 23rd November, 2020.

That was the main reason he initially retired. Jimmy was killed on 23rd January, 1970, at Rowley Park, and Dennis never reappeared for that season.
-
He spent a few years as Halifax team manager before heading back to Adelaide in 1986.

Oh yeah, we all know about Clem, one of the most famous involved in a war...
