  1. OK Ross, there's another Aussie we've forgotten - Ipswich's Shorty Schirmer. Any ideas about his nickname? His height, perhaps? Steve
  2. Or Canadian Dave Dodd, who also rode for Poole, and Neath's South African, Howdy Cornell. Steve
  3. Two more for you: Jack Gates (St. Austell) Gordon Leigh (Swindon) who was sadly killed at Warragula in December 1959. Steve
  4. ...and we're up to 112 with: Jules Benson (Rayleigh) Laurie Holland (Leicester) Steve
  5. Oh, don't forget South African Vern McWilliams, who rode for Poole. Steve
  6. Sorry, but I made a mistake; it is SYD, not Sid. Steve
  7. Morian Hansen (Hackney & Denmark) Brian Jakobsen (Poole & Denmark) Claes Jensen (Poole & Denmark) Stefano Alonso (Edinburgh? & Italy) It is BENT Rasmussen, not Bengt. It is BENT Norregaard, not Bengt It is LASZLO Munkasci. It is ERIK Knudsen, not Eric. Steve
  8. I could see this happening... That's why I listed the teams, because there are a few riders who actually shared the same names. Anyway, here goes : 1 - Rob Allen 2 - Ernie Brecknell 4 - Rod Colquhoun 5 - John would probably be best 6 - Dave Edwards 7 - Mike Farrell 9 - Craig Hodgson 10 - Merv Janke 11 - Bryan Loakes 12 - Malcolm Mackay 14 - Mick McKeon 15 - Steve Reinke 17 - Looks like Nigel Tremelling 18 - Darrel Branford 21 - Rusty Harrison 24 - Rob Maxfield, although he was often called Bob 25 - Dave O'Connor 26 - There may have been a Mark, but Max Pearce is the one I was talking about. 27 - Peter Thompson rode in England in the late 1960's and early 1970's. 18 - Dale Watson rode for Peterborough in 1983 Also, Paul O'Neal (correctly spelt O'Neil) is not an Aussie, but a New Zealander. Piet Van Den Berg, when riding in England was called Peter Vandenberg. Jim Ryman was usually known as Jim, and not Jimmy. It is Brett Woodifield, and not Woodfield. It is Dud McKean, not McKeon. Steve
  9. So too is Sid Van Der Vyver, who rode for Leicester... Steve
  10. You're welcome, but don't forget these: Peter Baldock (Hull) Wayne Bridgeford (Sheffield) Les Hewitt (Coventry) Bob Meyer (Exeter) Allan Quinn (Harringay) Jack Scott (Plymouth) Ken Walsh (Exeter) Oh, and it's Stan CATLETT, not Catlerr. Steve
  11. and nobody's mentioned Davey Watt! Steve
  12. ...and some more... Rob Allen (Rye House) Darrel Branford (Edinburgh) Peter Christopher (Canterbury) Dave Hamnett (Hackney) Bryan Loakes (Hull) Wayne Lorymer (Peterborough) Darryl Simpson (Canterbury) Steve Payne (Milton Keynes) Tony Primmer (Wimbledon) Ron Schliebs (Peterborough) Nigel Tremeling (Poole) Dale Watson (Peterborough) Ian Wedgwood (Middlesbrough) Steve

  14. And a few more Aussies... Jack Bishop Ken 'Casper' Cameron (I'm sure he was an Aussie) Roger Commerford (Stoke) Harold Hastings (Lea Bridge) 'Buzz' Hibberd Greg McNeill (Milton Keynes) Kym McConnell (Workington) Rod North (Stoke) Cliff Watson (West Ham) - I believe there has been a query about him on here somewhere, but he did represent Australia in the 1949 World Final. Mark Williams (Nottingham) Ray Wood (Milton Keynes) Steve
  15. Sorry, but you're still missing a few, including: Brett Alderton (Milton Keynes) Rob Ashton (Exeter) Glen Baxter (Mildenhall) Les Bentzen (Halifax) John Board (Swindon) Tracy Bray (Middlesbrough) Hilary Buchanan Jim Burdfield (Stoke) Con Cantwell (Wimbledon) John Chadwick (Long Eaton) John Chamberlain (Norwich) David Coles (Workington) Mick Conroy (Middlesbrough) Dene Davies (Reading) Geoff Davies (Berwick) Dave Edwards (Middlesbrough) Lex Fielding (Middlesbrough) Kerry Gray (Rye House) Guy Hawkes (Doncaster) Craig Hyde (Ipswich) Peter Ingram (Exeter) Noel Johnson Bill Landels (Edinburgh) Malcolm Mackay (Workington) Derrol Melbin (Middlesbrough) Peter Nightingale (Middlesbrough) Scott Norman (Peterborough) Alan Paynter (Nelson) Max Pearce (Yarmouth) Doug Poole (Middlesbrough) Justin Pryor (Wimbledon) Chris Quigley (Berwick) Jim Ryman (Boston) Les Sawyer (Nottingham) Neville Slee (Ipswich) Paul Sly (Canterbury) John Spilsbury (Middlesbrough) Bob Tabet (Reading) Kevin Torpie (Edinburgh) Terry Tulloch (Weymouth) Noel Watson (Motherwell) Doug White (King's Lynn) Steve Widt (Ipswich) I'll keep looking... Steve
  16. The big difference, I think you'll find, is that Roy remained English UNTIL he moved to New Zealand (quitting the British scene), whereas Bob had represented New Zealand for several years while still racing in the UK. Therefore, I don't think that Roy could be classed as a New Zealander racing in Britain. The same could be same of Tommy Sweetman, assuming he did become a naturalized New Zealander... Steve
  17. Unless my eyes deceive me, 250 looks like a very young (and very slim) Fryer! Steve
  18. Yep, Neil was an Aussie. One of my faves at Plough Lane... Steve
  19. 237. Well, he has David Bargh's face mask, and a kiwi on his shoulder, so I think it might be DB... :-) Boy, do I feel stupid for getting 233 wrong; that's what I get for not actually looking at it. Steve
  20. Okay norbold, it looks like I may have made a faux pas... Jimmy Tannock did compete in the 1967 New Zealand Final. I may have jumped the gun a little, because even though it was still predominantly for New Zealanders in those days, so did Doug Templeton. Anyway, here are two more that you forgot : :-) Charlie Blacklock (Harringay), who was killed at Christchurch in 1935. John Garmson, killed at Nottingham in 1931. Steve
  21. Sorry Frigbo, I think you'll find that Mick McKeon was an Aussie. Glad you remembered throbbin' Robin Hampton, though! Fore those young'uns on the list who may not know, Roy Williams was only an alias; he also rode in Britain under his real name of Bernie Lagrosse. Others were : Paul Church Mark DeKok Bob Duckworth Ron Johnston Jimmy Tannock Greg Williamson Steve
  22. Yep, that's Keith Bloxsome in 213... 229 - Larry Ross 230 - Siggy, Lance King, Rick Miller 231 - Jimmy Mac leading leggy Lars Hammarberg and Borje Ring. Not 100% about the guy in red, but it looks like Peter Carr. 232 - Still lookin' 233 - Crumpy leading Shawn 234 - From l to r - DJ, Shawn, Wiggy Steve
  23. I also have what appears to be confirmation of the fourth rider in 88. I thought it looked like Peter Carr, and on checking, I found that in Heat 2 of the Belle Vue-Sheffield BL Match on August 21, 1982, Peter Carr finished last behind Brown, McMillan and White. Steve
  24. Thank you so much!!! Boy, that was driving me crazy; it took me a long while to get there... Oh, and did we ever get any closer to solving 90? Like many others, it looks like Sam to me, but if, as you say, you really don't know who it is, why are you so sure it's not? He doesn't look that tall, so what about Colin Cook or Guy Wilson? Do you know when it was taken? Steve
