Hi all, I'm currently trying to compile a complete World Final History, and I have encountered some problems regarding the 1990 Final at Bradford. If anyone has the heat details or CORRECT points table, I would be very grateful if you could be of some assistance. I have checked www.speedway.org and www.speedway history.com, but neither appear to be correct. Simply put, the problems are : Heats 1-4 - They show FIVE third places, and THREE lasts. Heats 5-8 - They show TWO third places, and SIX lasts. Heats 13-16 - They show FIVE third places, and THREE lasts. Heats 17-20 - They show THREE third places, and FIVE lasts. I know that the extra unplaced rides can be accounted for by having less than three finishers, but I really don't know how to explain the extra third places!!! With that in mind, I would like to check the total accuracy of the list. Thanks, Steve

Yep, but I don't believe anybody's mentioned Colin Rogerson, who appeared for Teesside in 1973. Steve

When Wimbledon went NL in 1985, Simmo spent a year with Swindon before splitting 1986 between King's Lynn (BL) and Hackney (NL). Then came one year with Hackney in BL, but I do believe he missed 1988 before appearing for Arena in 1989. Steve

Canadian,african,austrian Riders In British League
chunky replied to Puma23's topic in Years Gone By
I'm not sure that they ever rode FOR Norwich, simply AT Norwich. I don't know anything about Tom, but Dick was only a junior, definitely South African, and was killed in a mining accident at Chislet Colliery in Kent, on February 6, 1959. I think you're right about Nick Floyd being the South African at Arena. Steve -
The same with a number of the Hungarians; I don't believe that Bodi, Petrikovics, etc ever rode league in Britain. Steve

Just come across another... Allan Wall rode for Poole in 1950. Steve
-
My thoughts exactly... I did think that Tony Robinson and Tommy Roper would be likely candidates, with Wally Green and Cliff Parkinson as possibilties. However, names like Jackson and Young are a little too common to pin down. Certainly, Kershaw, Kirton, and Holdsworth mean absolutely nothing, and the only Grimshaw I know is Alan (Belle Vue in 1974 and ), which doesn't exactly fit in with the period. Steve

Just remembered another - Ray Caruana (Oxford, I believe). Steve

Malpass would probably be Cradley's Phil Malpass, who had quite a distinguished career. Allison and George STRINGER both rode for Halifax in the early 50's, with the former also riding for Odsal. Unfortunately, without more information, it is difficult to identify the others. Steve

Thanks for that, Ross. Steve

Thanks for that, ST. Also, the Briggo video you saw was undoubtedly "Barry Briggs:Profile Of A Legend" from the "Champions" series issued by Duke in the early to mi-90's. The footage was from the speedway Hall of Fame which was at Donington Park. Unfornately, it closed down several years ago, but I am pleased to say that I did manage to visit (on a trip to Long Eaton) before its closure. Steve

Ta ever so; I really appreciate that. Steve

Thanks, shazzybird, although it's a website that we'd all rather not have. It's so easy for us to forget people, and I really don't want that to happen. It seems strange that Graham has been gone for 28 years this year. Steve

You wouldn't happen to have anything on Wimbledon, would you, Norbold? I recently picked up Peter Oakes History of the BL, but it's missing the Dons' 1974 season, and I would like to get that season's stats if I can. Steve
-
Unfortunately, I don't know the answer to that, but I did wonder the same thing. Maybe if Ross Garrigan reads this, he can tell us. If not, I'll drop him an email. Steve

Thanks for the info Bavarian, I really appreciate it. Having been unable to find information on certain riders, I had wondered about the accuracy of some of the information I had collected. I am only too happy to remove them. I was informed of the tragic circumstances of Nikolai Nischenko's death, but I have been trying to get a correct date. Steve

Thanks for your kind words, norbold. Also, thanks for the info on Frank Charles. If you (or anyone else) can fill in any of the other blanks, I would greatly appreciate it. Steve
-
Thanks for your input, Puma. However, I was given the details by Maurizio Balducci, seemingly an expert on Argentinian speedway. Steve

I know we had a few arguments about Bill Landels, but now we have definite facts and dates, I PROMISE I WON'T MENTION HIM AGAIN!!! Actually, I did think of Ray Taaffe; I thought he was an Aussie, but I wasn't sure. Also, what about Neil Webb who rode some odd matches for Stoke and Edinburgh in 1976 and 77; was he Australian? Steve
-
which should be Shorty SCHIRMER Steve
-
...AND Bill Landels ...AND Harold Tapscott ...AND Rusty Wainwright, who indeed rode for St. Austell. ...AND Vic Sage, who rode for Ipswich in 1952. Steve
-
and some more... Lionel Benson (Leicester) John Bowerman (Scunthorpe) Brent Collyer (Eastbourne) Chris Ferguson (Weymouth) Cec Platt (Eastbourne) Don Prettijohn (Cradley Heath) Steve
-
Some more minor corrections to be made, Puma, Bill Landels should be on the list Harold Tapscott should be on the list Ern Brecknel should be ERNIE BRECKNELL Rod Colqhoun should be ROD COLQUHOUN Merve Harding should be MERV HARDING Russel Harrison should be RUSSELL HARRISON Dud Mckeon should DUD McKEAN Nigel Tremeling should be NIGEL TREMELLING Piet Van Den Berg should be PETER VANDENBERG (his racing name) Lionel Van Pragg should be LIONEL VAN PRAAG Brett Woodfield should be BRETT WOODIFIELD It also may be a help if you list riders with their alias or nickname, such as Ron 'Junior' Bainbridge Bernard 'Bat' Byrnes Russell 'Rusty' Harrison Keith 'Buck' Ryan That would save any confusion. Steve
-
Remember, you still have two Hans Nielsens, and two Sam Nikolajsens... And Italian Stefano Alonso should be ALFONSO. Steve
-
...and some more... Triss Sharp was indeed English. Russell Hrrison is listed under RUSSELL (RUSTY) HARRISON. Lionel Lecy should be LIONEL LEVY (already listed). Buck Ryan is already listed under KEITH RYAN. Checking the last full list: Brett Woodfield is WOODIFIELD and Steve Reinki is REINKE. Jimmy Ryman was usually known as JIM. Steve
