  1. Do not - I repeat, DO NOT - trash them. I would take them at the drop of a hat, but obviously, I can't. There is too much important history to just dump them.
  2. I don't know why people still claim that. Doubling up WAS a feature in the 70's and 80's - actually from the time the Second Division started. Many BL teams adopted a second-tier team to provide riders. Riders like Eric Broadbelt, Ken Eyre, and Steve Waplington rode for both Belle Vue teams, and Gary Peterson appeared for Nelson and Newcastle. Terry Shearer turned out for Doncaster and Newport, while Peter Murray featured for Canterbury and Wimbledon. Geoff Ambrose was at Crayford and Wolverhampton. Later on, Hull and Newcastle were linked (same promotion, I know). Colin Richardson was a staple at both Plough Lane and Arlington, as was Andy Grahame at Birmingham and Milton Keynes. No, it wasn't called "doubling up", but it certainly wasn't uncommon.
  3. They're special machine brushes, though...
  4. Very sad. Yet another one from my era gone... R.I.P. Graham
  5. Surprised nothing has been posted on here, but there are many posts on Facebook reporting that legendary speedway photographer Mike Patrick has passed away. R.I.P. Mike
  6. Trouble is, back in the day, the tracks allowed you to do that...
  7. Great job, Dan! After watching that previous ride. there was only ever going to be one winner!
  8. More than that, I'd say! As my dad always said, riding out wide makes the straights longer...
  9. I was always taught that the shortest route was the quickest. So, how come Dan rode about 6 miles further than Holder there, and won???
  10. 90,000 crazy speedway fans from all over Europe created the atmosphere. 6000 senior citizens doesn't quite do it, does it?
  11. You know, I still love love it when people bleat on about how great World Finals are, and how we need to go back to them. Why? The racing was generally very poor. We went to Wembley for the experience, the atmosphere. We were able to ignore the quality of the racing because it was Wembley. What about 1981, I hear you say? Greatest final of all, thanks to the racing! No. It wasn't. There were TWO good races, that's it. 1976 was far superior racing wise. Trust me, Dean, I'm with you on nearly everything you post on here...
  12. Oh well, we are desperate for new blood in the GP's, so bring on the changes. Guys like Zmarzlik and Bewley are clearly past it...
