  1. I'd not go anywhere near Anders anyway, shame as he was really kicking on then had a bad injury. Never been the same rider since. Hopefully the promotion will do the necessary paperwork so we can employ Aussies again. Especially with Jack Holder likely to be available, should be going all out to sign a rider like that. No thanks, have him at Newcastle.
  2. The diehards who want to travel away will still do so, for the rest they can attend the NL meeting at home. Or run the EL meetings on a Monday for example and the NL meetings on a Tuesday. The Sky thing is a risk the sport has to take. Either people want lots of Speedway or they don't. If you're a person that loves your Speedway you'll go to the track over watching on TV if it's an option. TBH, it feels like the sport is held to ransom by riders and by TV, the only people who should matter are the customers. They should be given what they want, that way they'll keep coming back.
  3. The answer is to run one race night, a home meeting every fortnight. That will get the top riders back. If a promotion wants to have a meeting a week then run a NL side on weeks that the EL team is away. Helps riders to develop, is cheaper for fans and also gives them their weekly fix.
  4. It'll be changed I suspect. It should be for British riders at least. Kennett has said on Facebook that he'll do PL if he has to choose between the two.
  5. If you can't make it pay then give up and get a normal job, it's quite simple unfortunately. I know exactly what goes in to it, bike washing, tracvel etc. as do the riders. They choose to race, nobody is forcing them to. If you look at Mr. Mungo's post detailing the rough pay scale every point scored by a three point reserve costs almost the same as three adult entry fees at most tracks. That shows why teams are struggling financially and why things need to change.
  6. They know the costs of the sport and the potential risks. Sport, and business in general, revolves around supply and demand. That's why get footballers are paid handsomely, because fans go to games, buy merchandise, subscribe to sports channels etc. and that is just scratching the surface. Anyone apart from the top, top stars in speedway is deluded if they think it is a good way to earn a living, they do it because they love racing a speedway bike ultimately. That goes for the entertainment aspect too, people don't get into the sport to be entertainers, they do it because they want to do it. Whether you're Greg Hancock in a GP or someone racing in an amateur meeting at Scunthorpe you face exactly the same risks every time you come up to the tapes.
  7. Considering there's a training track being built is like to think the Raiders will carry on in 2017. Lessons have to be learnt with regard to the make up of the team though. Top heavy didn't work. I can see Rob Branford going full time PL and I'd like to see Ben Morley spend a year at Kings Lynn or the Isle of Wight at this level to improve his big track skills. I'd hope both of them are the Rockets' reserves at the start of the year though. This is what I've come up with under a 40 point limit: 1. Lanham 2. Bowtell 3. Cockle/Ritchings 4. Hopwood 5. D. Greenwood 6. 3 pointer 7. Hunter I think Lanham's days of riding in the PL are over but he's on an attractive NL average and has bags of experience. Bowtell should have stayed this season and hopefully we can tempt him back, the natural progression to the Rockets eventually if he makes the grade should be a selling point. Ritchings/Cockle would be good back up to Lanham. If Ritchings kicks on too there's opportunities with the Rockets to be had. Hopwood, our asset and on a bargain average at this level. Would be ridiculous to let him go elsewhere. Greenwood is known to the promotion after a spell as a Rocket last year, again opportunities for him to stake a claim for a PL place with a good season. One new three pointer is enough as we've found out this season. Hunter has suffered from a stop start season and being in the main team from day one. Get him in at reserve with no pressure on and he'll improve.
  8. Morley has been improving year on year. I'd say this season he has had his best year in the sport, unfortunately the team around him at both levels were not very good. Whether there will be any more improvement from him I'm really not sure. I'd personally be looking to ride on a bigger track if I was Morley, it's the same thing that stopped Luke Bowen from progressing further than he did in my opinion. Stayed in the comfort zone of Rye and could score well at home but always struggled away from home. A season at Kings Lynn or the Isle of Wight in the NL would serve Ben well. The PL isn't far too strong for Morley to be competitive, his average has been over four this season. His away form lets him down, he's beaten plenty of big names around Rye. As I've said above he needs to spend time at a bigger track to improve I think. He's improved every season he has been racing, maybe not as fast as others but it has happened. The next step is for him to score well away from Rye, so racing at a bigger circuit is the logical step to him performing to a higher standard on away tracks.
  9. If the EL had one night and the PL could race every other night of the week that would be a start. Doubling up wouldn't be a problem then as there'd be no fixture clashes.
  10. NBJ is in a team, Kings Lynn. Josh Grajczonek isn't riding anywhere on Saturday night, why haven't we tried to book him? Comparing the two teams we look to have no hope whatsoever, Lanham at reserve makes us even weaker.
  11. He's spent the last two seasons on a small track in the PL and is on a 6.31 average. I wouldn't be against him if the rest of the team make up is right that being said. I sincerely hope not because the team this year isn't good enough. If Eddie is in the PL next season I'm pretty certain it'll be as a Rocket.
  12. All speculation. Let's hope any silly notions of six rider teams and one big league are swiftly discarded. Fans want to look at possible team permutations over the winter it's natural and to be honest the team building rules for a season should be set a lot earlier than they are at present. The PL has had a 42.5 point limit for quite some time. To be honest it could be reduced for the sake of British Speedway and Brit only reserve rules implemented but as for making the PL a good product in its own right 42.5 has been working. I hope not.
  13. All the more reason for a squad system. Poole could have had both Andersen and Lindback in their squad for the whole year. Likewise Wolverhampton could have had Woffinden in their squad all season. Sadly these things happen because the rules of Speedway in Britain are wishy washy, why not simply allow Lindback to sign for Poole replacing Andersen as injury cover. When Andersen returns to racing, as he did on Sunday, he also has to return to the Poole team and Lindback's cover stint is over. A rule book should be black and white, not open to different interpretations. If Andersen is riding in Poland then he is declaring himself fit to race, if he wasn't sure about it then he should have sat out the rest of the season and just had some practice time somewhere to see how his hand was healing.
  14. Looking at the greensheets, Morley and Heeps look a lot more attractive propositions for next year. Kennett's average has moved in the right direction too when looking at team building for next season. Unfortunately for the rest of this season though we'll have Lanham at reserve rather than Branford.
  15. NBJ, no thanks to the other two. MPT has had a couple of good meetings at Rye but ultimately would just average in the mid fives again if we signed him. I'd rather give Heeps another year on that figure.
  16. No thanks to Kasper. 1. Eddie 2. Heeps 3. NBJ 4. Holder/Howarth/Jorgensen (in order of preference) 5. Robson 6. Branford 7. Three pointer Fits now, may not depending on how the final averages fluctuate. Morley a victim of his own good season I'm afraid. His average is too high for me. Eddie does the bulk of the scoring in this side and there's three others in there capable of scoring good points. Holder will be in high demand though no doubt, have to get the cheque book out. Heeps and Branford would likely swap in and out of reserve, unless one really kicks on and we'll always have a strong reserve. I'm not as sold on bringing Palm Toft in as other Rye fans, seems to be a perennial five pointer just like Kasper.
  17. He only came back from a break mid season last year and has had quite a few PL outings this season. That's the kind of opportunities someone of his ability is likely to be getting at this stage...
  18. Performances from Peterborough onwards have made the season look more respectable but the team absolutely has to change for next year or it'll be another year of struggle. Let's look at it, Peterborough made a huge gamble changing their side to try and reach the play-offs, it didn't work and we just happened to be one of the sides that faced their new side. Plus they've lost a lot at home this season, it's really not that surprising that we picked up a point. Sheffield were pretty much a two man team and forced a last heat decider for a point at Rye still. If Bates had scored like he did for Scunthorpe on Monday they would have won. Redcar are poor, we should have beaten them away anyway. Half the sides in the league have. Scunthorpe run us close despite also having a pretty bad side IMO. Eddie needs serious back up, on too many occasions Robbo has had to step up this season, when he does so that should be a bonus and not expected of him weekly.
  19. To be fair those instances would be rare. Unless the rider that has scored double figures and isn't eligible is a reserve as I believe only points from programmed rides count towards the heat 15 nominations. The point Tsunami raises is fair, however if a team has been humped then their riders aren't going to bust a gut just to make heat 15 a spectacle. I remember Rye House using Rob Smith, who was our number eight and hadn't had a race all meeting in a heat 15 some years back, I'm sure he finished third in front of an opponent too.
  20. Heat 15 nominations are from top three averages and/or top three scorers on the night. Palm Toft was neither so rightly not allowed in. Bates however was in the top three scorers anyway. Some would argue that the two minute warning shouldn't have been put on until Scunthorpe had nominated eligible riders. Bates was eligible to guest as the eight day rule is for guest appearances as Shads says above. Imagine if Bates had scored that well last week for Sheffield.
  21. Was either when the NL team was the Cobras or Hackney. Marc had a lot of potential, picked up a couple of injuries and has never been the same rider sadly.
  22. The last one I can find is 56.4 by Tai Woffinden, though I'm sure Marc Owen beat that at some point.
  23. Why would we delay the start time to allow a visiting rider who has decided to guest for another team earlier in the day to get to the track?
