  1. As a two point man Morley would be fine, but he is north of three and was when we signed him. Good at home, will struggle away. Similar type of rider to Luke Bowen (albeit not as good - awaits backlash).
  2. On a six point average he is still more likely to put points on than drop them. Especially if he starts as a second string.
  3. I'd have reservations, but on a six point average he'd be well worth the gamble as a second string. Seems to get on well with the Rye track too. Averaged over 10 at home, that from a second string would be ideal.
  4. 1. Nicholls 2. R. Lambert 3. Kennett 4. Kasprzak 5. Sundstrom 6. NBJ 7. 2 pointer Fits as per the last set of green sheets which are going to fluctuate a little bit. Using NBJ's last EL average.
  5. Would have been a massive gatecrash if we had made the play-offs. KK becoming available and signing meant we didn't finish near the bottom. The promotion have shown they're not afraid to make changes in the hunt for success. On to next year. Linus Sundstrom top of the shopping list please.
  6. Morley's signing was nothing to do with the Kennett/Perks team change. So the justification behind that wasn't because we needed to do better away from home it was a necessity because Branford was injured and we wanted to bring KK in. Sedgmen has been bad all season, dropped by Belle Vue and Ipswich also tried to drop him. He had one meeting for us and wasn't great in that. If you have the chance to sign Kasprzak and save your season then you take it. I said Watt was a gamble. But the justification for making it was there. Personally I think we should have gone for Schlein instead but that's water under the bridge. Watt was clearly not at the races and was swiftly replaced. They won't be hailed as geniuses by me because it is clearly luck, that's beside the point though. Sometimes you need a bit of luck. KK fell in our laps and it could secure us the league title. Had we stuck with Sedgmen we'd probably be heading for a relegation play-off (if they're even still happening). Hopefully bridges with Kennett haven't been burned. If he is on the right average next year (sub six) then he'd be an ideal second string for us. Had he been kept though his average wouldn't have been attractive for next year. The rules are the rules and you have to use them to your advantage when you can. I'd prefer to see a team built at the start of the season and stick together. How do you solve that? Get rid of play-offs. Then the team who finish top will win the league and there wouldn't be a ridiculous situation in which a mid-table side can finish as champions. I'll still celebrate if we win the league though.
  7. Be that as it may, Harris was declared in the Rye House team from day one. And why, as a Rye fan should I not be bothered about him riding for a team that will allow their riders to miss meetings to ride in Poland but want Harris even though the situation in which Holder was released for meetings is the same. Holder was allowed to ride for Torun depending on how they did in the league, Rye House could miss out on the play-offs from Bomber's lost points tonight. What's the difference?
  8. I think once the move to bring KK in for Sedgmen was made then Morley was the only option to replace the injured Rob Branford. Morley for Perks was not a straight swap. Barker and Sedgmen for Kennett and Perks was a strange decision. Barker seemingly picked up on the strength of one TV meeting at Belle Vue. It should have made us stronger at reserve and stronger away but it didn't. KK's don't come along on five point averages every year and it was a stroke of luck that it happened and indeed that he looks happy at Rye. Kennett was never going to be a number one in the top league and was a victim of the averages not changing for a fair while lumbering him with the number one race jacket. I hope the bridges have not been burned with him because he could be on an attractive average as a second string next year. Sedgmen was bad, to replace him with a former world number two is hardly mystifying for me. This is sport and to win you have to be ruthless sometimes. Watt was a gamble perhaps. Was it inept? Not at all, he had a good Australian Championship and if it had paid off would have been seen as a masterstroke. It didn't and he was quickly replaced. I think some of the decisions made this year have been strange of course, but if we win the league we can't complain too much because that's the name of the game. All I hope for next year is more consistent meetings at home, well across the whole league.
  9. You know Morley will do ok at home but the bigger tracks will still be his undoing. Good score last night and he beat some riders considered to be a lot better than him. Anything he picks up at BV and Lynn is a bonus for me but if he can carry on scoring at home like he did last night his points will be important, especially if we do make the play-offs.
  10. Peterborough have nothing to race for. They let Holder go race in Poland rather than for them so they should be letting Bomber ride for us. Farcical rules making the sport look tinpot yet again.
  11. Any one of those three at reserve is reasonable. Preferably Wells I'd say. Barker seems to have improved a little but as you say this week is the key to it actually meaning anything!
  12. If Sedgmen was still in the team we'd not be where we are now. The point regarding Harris and Barker as a partnership is still very relevant I'd say.
  13. I think Poole are still in the driving seat but we could pip them. It'll need a good performance on Thursday at Lynn, I can't see us taking anything from Belle Vue. And then we have to take maximum points from our three remaining home meetings. If we're in the play-offs we can win the league, simple as that. Though I think we might be found out at reserve away from home. I'll be delighted if we did go on and win the whole thing of course but a team finishing mid table shouldn't be winning the league. Time for a rethink regarding play-offs for next year.
  14. It's not the same Rye though, we were running R/R and a rubbish guest. And Leicester had three guests and R/R too. That said, I'd just be happy to reach the play-offs, then it's anyones game.
  15. How will I sleep tonight knowing that a rider was slightly rolling in heat one of a challenge meeting.
  16. I'd say more people will avoid Poole. It's on TV and the admission isn't reduced by that much. People wouldn't have to pick and choose had we had consistent home meetings earlier in the season mind.
  17. I always thought Linus would kick on to be a top, top rider. His time at Rye was more impressive than Tai's imo. Would happily see him back next year, hope the promotion have noted that he's looking to do open meetings over here later on this season. Neathy around Rye was majestic. Took the track record using an unorthodox line and generally was in a class of his own at home. Looked like he was finally going to become an out and out number one the season before his career ending injury.
  18. Adam Ellis wasn't part of my list because he is one of the better youngsters. Bates is progressing perhaps but still isn't anywhere near the level of some of his Polish/Danish/Swedish contemporaries of the same age.
  19. There was a list just as long five years ago of riders who are now floating around the Championship or still in the NL even. Perry, Clegg, Morley, Branford, Morris, Greenwood, Kerr, Sarjeant, Nielsen, Jacobs, Knight, Bates etc. Unfortunately for me that isn't making it. Things are improving however and there are a few here and there that look like they could, with the right attitude and application, push on and be going into the GP qualification rounds in the long run if not further or shock horror actually get team places in Poland and Sweden.
  20. The lack of good racing and one line during Silver's era is a common misconception. There was always an outside line and a cutback on bends 3/4 possible while off of bend two riders could use the camber to perform a cutback or the ballsier ones (Jordan Frampton sticks out in my mind as a rider that did this) would ride right on the edge of the point of no return on the camber and find dirt wide on the exit of bend two. There is room for changes to the track's shape to make it a better race track, perhaps this should be explored. I'd take better racing before (however not at the expense of) any other aesthetic changes to the place personally.
  21. It's been time to stop doubling up for a long time. It is no longer a tool to help young Brits progress up the leagues, more just a way for riders to compete in both leagues to make riding pay. Riders should have one club here (unless stricter rules for youngsters only being allowed to double up can be put into place) and if they can't compete full time as a result of that then they'll have to get a job away from racing to help pay the bills/fund their racing.
  22. Harris and Barker shouldn't be in a pairing together. Kasprzak should be getting seven rides, we're still just about in the mix for the play-offs, it could realistically come down to race points difference.
  23. Let's just hope nobody farts in Norfolk or we might have a wind off.
  24. Which is relevant to Kent v Lakeside how?
  25. Leicester's current team has only two riders who don't double up and one of those missed this meeting injured but rode in Poland the week before and the day after. Doubling up is one of the many nails in the coffin of British Speedway and at the moment it's being driven home hard.
