Ben Fund Meeting
Ben91 replied to colincooke's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
Looking at the names the names that have been added it makes the event look even better, I still think not including Luke Bowen is an oversight though. Should be an absolute cracker. -
Surely if he has been regarded as something of a snob by some the Kent Kings would be more apt?
-
Simple answer, go out under cover of darkness with some spray paints and spray the Kings logo all over the side of Allied Carpets, it what the little street chavs do and they get away with it scott free, so why can't anyone else In honesty though, good luck to the Kings fans on getting your plaque, a small token which will obviously mean a lot to so many, some people make no sense in not allowing something like this.

Nameless Gp's Still!
Ben91 replied to manchesterpaul's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
That is generally due to fans not wanting to travel across Europe or even half way across the World for a one off meeting which their team may not be in and who wants to watch a meeting with teams that they don't support, especially at higher prices than a usual league meeting. If this was to be a big tournament then fans would have a guarentee of group matches etc that they could travel and watch plus more if their team is succesful, most if not all speedway nations have at least 7/8 riders, whether they are household names in Britain is irrelevant, if they aren't up to World standard then they won't qualify -
Nameless Gp's Still!
Ben91 replied to manchesterpaul's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Yes they can... Football's World Cup is a HUGE spectacle, Speedway's unfortunately is not in comparison, moving from country to country meeting to meeting is not coherent and a pointless excercise, the meetings are pretty hypocritical, racing for your country but not taking to the track with another countryman in the whole tournament as the races are all individual affairs, maybe run a world cup every other year, with the off year being used for qualifiers, then make the world cup a week/fortnight long (as long as it is at the moment) spectacle in one nation comprising of test matches. qualification would also be staged as test matches and nations such as Romania, Austria, New Zealand could get a look in for once... -
Presumably, if there is footage of the crash, there must be more from the meeting floating around, the 6 second clip is over in a flash and it is hard to draw any conclusions from it, if Bishop is right and it was a first bend incident, then it would be interesting to see this and work out from that if his views were correct.
-
Even in the 50's how can you let that happen Raniszewski seems to just disappear on impact and having watched the video in slow motion, I may be wrong but it looks like a large amount of blood on the wall behind which wasn't there before the crash... absolutely horrible.

Ben Fund Meeting
Ben91 replied to colincooke's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
anything can happen over 4 laps This is going to be a brilliant meeting, not just because it's at Rye, it's the sort of meeting i'd contemplate going to no matter where it was staged due to the cause and the riders. The Rye participant should be Luke Bowen without a shadow of a doubt, a home grown rider who has fought his way through many injuries, presumably being helped by the Ben fund at some point? It's going to be a brilliant spectacle having Jason, Leigh, Rory, Tai, Kev and Dumpy at Rye. Fingers crossed Eddie Kennett and Super Robbo will be racing too -
Classic At Newport

I haven't produced anything myself because I do not have the time and I am not in charge of the Newport programme, just because you asked me to it doesn't mean I have to Wanna and I did not once say in my original post I was going to do so. My post was about the programme and a serious comment on it, I stated how I thought it could be improved but you, like always reduce things to petty squabbling. I also don't care how your programme is paid for, nor do I care what you think. I haven't got anymore time for you and your childish comments, if you can't take someone disagreeing with your biased views then you are not worth the time of day, look at your reaction to Jerran Hart wanting to win a meeting for example, you really need to grow up. Discussion over. -

Sorry Wanna, rubbed you up the wrong way again? I have a strong knowledge of Photoshop, i'm not saying I could produce something miles better than the Newport offer however I could make something of the same standard if not better and there lies my point, somebody has been paid good money to produce something that I could do myself in 5 minutes. You are supposedly an ambassador for Newport Speedway via the website and this forum and you carry yourself disgracefully, not just here but in pretty much every post you make, your parents shouldnt have given you that vtech laptop in your play pen. I'd take off the tinted glasses if I were you but then i'm glad thats not the case. I hope the fans of Newport enjoy the success you are bound to have next season, its just a shame the minority conduct themselves like idiots. -

Fair enough point then, I'd say there is more effort into the cover than a Rye one without a shadow of a doubt, however having the racejacket edited in and the way Hans is cut out is suspect. The text to the left of Hans has also been stretched vertically, a printing company should know how to justify text properly. May be best to reserve final judgement until tapes up in March, but if the Malletts are spending out good money for a full glossy programme they should be expecting more than this. Good intentions count for nothing in business. -

Because it gives off a poor image having an image there that has clearly been edited and cut out poorly -

Well, Hans Nielsen isn't going to be there, I just feel it would be better with a Wasp on the front cover surely. -

Elite League Riders Championship

I thought the idea was, invites go out to all EL teams number ones, aswell as an open invite to world class riders in the GP who don't race in Britain. Seems like it could work in bringing back some prestige to the meeting and who knows if the top men in the world see a jam packed British Crowd they may want to race here more often? -

Craig Saul did say he was feeling jaded after his heat one crash, even if he didn't what else would he be feeling jaded about? I agree that meeting reserves should have been there, in fact I believe the only Cobra at the meeting was Ben Morley, the only one of the NL side who couldn't have had a ride due to his age! I'm not sure why Kyle and Jerran were your highlighs, Kyle is a good rider and I want him in the Rye side next year, but he scraped through to the final and had a huge chunk of luck with Luke falling there. As for Jerran, in his three races he gated he won, the three he didn't gate, well he came last, highly exciting... As for Luke he was the highlight of the evening, he was clearly not content to just pick up points in his qualifying heats and was racing his hardest, trying different lines to pass EL opposition. In the semi-final he made a jet propelled gate and held off Eddie well. The final was perhaps a step too far, he clearly wanted to win, not just for the grand but because he loves the club. He bust a gut in the final and his fall was mighty unluck and ultimately cost him a possible £800. I agree with you about the 16 man individuals however, watching Edward Kennett and Olly Allen race each other four times last night lacked a little variety and there would have been less three rider races in a 16 man field. All told a decent nights entertainment on a difficult track to round off the season. -

Weather was terrible this morning but has cleared up now, looking quite bright outside. Should be good for the track if anything. No updates on the line-up, if there is no Olly Allen I do fully expect to see a Cobbler, shame as riders such as Stuart Robson had reportedly offered their services tonight, I'd rather see Robbo than Olly, let alone a Cobbler! -

It'll be interesting to see Kyle Huges, i've never heard of him before, but it says he will be there in the programme. It's lucky really Kyle Hughes isn't racing too otherwise there could be a lot of confusion On a Serious note, why not stick in Halsey, Courtney, Strudwick and Mason, wouldnt cost much and would give us a real individual meeting, plus if the rumors about Magic's retirement are correct, wuld be a nice way to send him off as a Rye House legend. -
Current line-up, not in rider order. 1. Chris Neath 2. Joe Haines 3. Luke Bowen 4. Linus Sundstrom 5. Paul Hurry (TBC) 6. Olly Allen 7. Ben Barker 8. Edward Kennett 9. Steve Boxall 10. Lewis Bridger 11. Jordan Frampton 12. Kyle Huges (Yes Huges not Hughes, it's what the programme said ) I have to admit I do not get as excited about the Ace of Herts as I used to. Changing from the 16 Rider 20 heat format moving to the 12 Rider and a final has made the event a lot less prestigious in my opinion. Considering the field could have included riders such as Danny King, Tai Woffinden, Davey Watt, Stuart Robson, plus more this event should be a lot better. I'll be there for my last speedway fix of the season but bitterly disappointed that we won't get a "real" individual meeting

Well done to Craig, Kyle and Jay. My top three prediciton was one out and that one was Jerran who came fourth so not a bad guess imo. Kyle was mighty unlucky. He had the race sewn up, Craig had raced well but was not going to pass Kyle round bend 4 unless there was a mechanical failure, which there was but at the end of the day the man who finished first was Craig Cook, so well done to him. I was rooting for the top two all evening, I just can't find any excitement watching Jerran Hart or Jay Herne race for some reason althought they are good riders no doubt. Such a shame Cookie has been signed up for Worky as i'd have no arguments with seeing him in a Rye racejacket next year. He has proven he can ride big and small tracks too. He will go far in the sport. Kyle will hopefully be a Rocket next year, that I am looking forward to seeing. I'm not sure whether on the strength of one bad NLRC meeting the event should be moved. The previous ones have always been very good. Maybe see how the 2010 event goes before rash decisions are made. Just another note, did anyone notice on the racecard inside the programme it said Conference League Riders Final, not National

In my opinion: The Main Contenders: Craig Cook (Buxton) Barrie Evans (Mildenhall) Kyle Hughes (Plymouth) Jerran Hart (Bournemouth) These guys can gate and pass round Rye, all in great form at this level and will be the top contenders in my book. Challengers Jay Herne (Bournemouth) Nick Simmons (Isle of Wight) Adam Allott (King’s Lynn) Simon Lambert (Scunthorpe) These 4 tend to not get on that well at Rye unless they get out of the starts. If one can string 5 good gates together then they could be the man on the top of the podium. Watch out for Adam Allott in particular. Outsiders: Benji Compton (Weymouth) Tony Atkin (Newport) Daniel Halsey (Rye House) Jade Mudgway (Buxton) James Cockle (Weymouth) The riders who could win on the right evening. Compton, won last year surprisingly, he could do it again. Atkin is highly experienced, he always seems to bust a gut at Rye to win races, didn't seem to do so much in the recent NL fixture but could do when personal glory is at stake. Danny is having an up and down season but has been a proven number 1 at NL level in previous years, including a spell of 4/5 meetings unbeaten at this level at Rye last year. Home track advantage could count. Mudgway can mix it, he is another racer and doesn't know when he is beaten. Don't discount him on Saturday. James Cockle knows Rye House well, he has a good chance to prove that he can dominate at this level on Saturday, if things go his way he could do it. The Rest Mark Simmonds (Plymouth) Darren Mallett (King’s Lynn) Ben Hopwood (Isle of Wight) Mark Simmonds has not seen Rye for years, due to missing the recent Cobblers V Devils meeting. He could go out and win the meeting but I feel this won't happen due to having not seen the track for so long. Darren Mallett has never been a Rye speciallist. He could put together a good night scoring but I think the title is beyond his grasp with the event taking place at Rye House. Ben Hopwood in my opinion is still a year away from contending in this competition. He has improved a lot this season but the calibre of riders he is up against will test him to the max. I have a feeling it will be Hart, Hughes and Cook on the podium.
