  1. I'd agree Michael Lee was an immense talent, I remember when he first started riding for Kings Lynn, the media was giving him huge wraps, I saw him do amazing things on a bike. Ronnie Moore was before my time so can't comment there, although I've read about his comeback, to do what he did would take something very special indeed. Kelly Moran was also incredible on a bike. I'll throw another name into the hat..Jan O Pedersen.
  2. Its a shame this thread got sidetracked and people got so abusive. It had potential. The thought of the posters at the starting tapes with JB69 (alias Dick Dastardly) is quite amusing. From handlebars to wacky races love it.
  3. I think I'll re phrase my opening line from good old boy after reading the last couple of posts, no excuse for that kind of nonsense.
  4. Best ever actual team must be the 1983 Cradley team:- Erik Gundersen Simon Wigg Jan O Pedersen Alan Grahame Phil Collins Simon Cross Peter Ravn Closely followed by the 1979 Cradley team:- Bruce Penhall Erik Gundersen Alan Grahame Phil Collins Bobby Schwartz Kristian Praestbro Steve Bastable But my ultimate would be:- Bruce Penhall Erik Gundersen Kenny Carter Peter Collins Anders Michanek Ole Olsen Ivan Mauger
  5. Mick was a real racer, although I never saw him in Australia I do remember some fine performances riding for the Halifax Dukes, I believe he rode for halifax around the same time as another Aussie racer Merve Jaenke (spelling)
  6. Another vote for Hyde Road, the BLRC's in the early/late seventies were fantastic memories, watching the fans racing on the go cart track before a meeting was also good fun. A full day out..Fantastic memories. Of course Cradley holds many memories as well, and then there were bank holiday Monday trips to the Shay at Halifax a unique track and another one of my favourites.
  7. Ivan is still very much involved, he attends almost all of the meetings at the Labrador track near his Gold Coast home and helps out a few of the locals. He's always chatting with someone. He promotes a speedway series in Australia and various Long Track events. As someone else has mentioned Ivan's lawyers I think I better end here.
  8. Without doubt one of the best speedway books I've read. They were so talented and brilliant to watch especially in the early days when they were on the wild side.
  9. I remember the good old boy. I remember on the way home from the 1981 World Final we stopped at the services somewhere between London and the Midlands and he was there, the place was full of jubilant Cradley and loads of other speedway fans and he was winding them all up. The thing was no one seemed to know anything about him, he just appeared mouthing off, never wore colours or showed any affiliation with a particular club although i remember him as a Belle Vue/Peter Collins Fan. He was a bit of a mystery to me.
  10. Can anyone else remember the Ipswich/John Louis fan who used to play a trumpet or bugle, he always played a tune prior to Tiger Louis's races. I've got a couple of very old videos where you can hear him in the background and I remember seeing him at various venues in the seventies.
