  1. Ah you have some good lads coming through then. I liked the styles of both Archie and Sam McGurk. Names we'll be hearing a lot of in the furute I don't doubt. Just out of interest, what did you make of the refereeing for the kids? I thought it was abysmal considering the red light was slow going on when one lad took a bad high sider on the 3rd bend and then when another got his helmet peak caught in the tapes. Got to look after our future riders.
  2. We are very fortunate at Glasgow where the current promotion are spending money on the stadium and facilities. Sadly they haven't had the same success in funding a winning team (yet)
  3. I take it you were really really there to cheer on the young lads? Some of them would have been better in the Glasgow team.
  4. My mate said it was absolutely gleaming better than some valet services had done. The wee lad obviously had a head for business as he was always in the same spot when my mate went to matches. Incidentally, Bob was only left in the car on cool Autumn and Spring evenings before anyone complains.
  5. When you even get the editor of this weeks Star saying the sport is in trouble and it's time BSPA listened you know things are wrong. If the team building average is dropped again the sport will be lucky if it lasts another few seasons and will as Matt Ford (!!!!) warned go to a semi-pro level.
  6. Indeed. I had a friend who regularly attended matches at a certain football ground in the south west of Glasgow. One night he was approached by a snotty nosed kid with the offer to look after his car for £2. My friend then pointed to the inside of his car and introduce '"Bob" his German Shepherd to the boy stating that he looked after his car. "Aye very good Mr but can Bob blaw up yer four tyres?" came the reply. My mate gave the lad his £2 and promised him a bonus when he back if the car was ok. He returned to find it gleaming after the wee lad had washed it in expectation of his bonus.
  7. Glasgow persisted with him last year to no avail and Sheffield obviously thought better of him this year. As for concentrating on the NL I don't think he would improve any more. He needs more track time with challenging riders but I can't see another CL team taking him on. Here I go again repeating myself, but I think the only way riders like Jack are going to get a fair chance is if the four reserves only race against each other with a start from each gate position. Yes you will get reserves dominating but their reward for that should maybe be getting the rides for tape offences etc.
  8. That's because Redcar saw one of the Tigers' fans saying BB should be banned from Owlerton altogether lol. I'm afraid since Brian Havelock gave up the promotion at Redcar the new promotion seem to think meetings are won off the track after the result has been declared. Glasgow were subjected to it last year after the result was declared after the meeting was abandoned due to the curfew after the amount of time it took to fix the airfence and then attend to a rider suddenly needing attention. The fact that glasgow were 8pts up and had three unbeaten riders at that point didn't matter.
  9. as opposed to a local 12 year old with pint glasses? Just wait till they tell you about Milngavie. (pronounce Mul-guy)
  10. Well with rumours (and only rumours even if coming from fans of the teams concerned) it would seem that at least two teams are wanting to drop down from the Premier League and one team in the Championship is considering the viability of continuing at any level Now assuming that a current Championship team won the play-offs would they be happy to change their race night and possibly suffer the same consequences as Rye House with badly reduced crowds? I doubt it so I can see the only option being one upper league without GP riders, doubling up obviously () and racing on whatever night they chose. So many things need sorted but I can't see that happening without an impartial independent ruling body.
  11. I don't subscribe to BT Sport so can you tell me if they have the sense to block the transmission out of the local area so it doesn't affect the home crowd? I don't suppose it would be financially viable for them to do that though.
  12. How in the name of...... can they average a team at 36? There are 90 points up for grabs in a match so common sense (something the ruling bodies obviously don't possess) say that should be 45 per team. Over the years one of the many things that has annoyed me is the constant change each year in team make ups. When I first started going (50 years ago this month) kids all had their favourite riders and bought badges, rosettes etc with their pictures. Now a rider can be dumped at anytime and kids, who have spent their pocket money on stuff are left disappointed and having to spend on more. I've also argued for years the season's average should be set at the winning's teams final average so the team can be kept together and other teams are encouraged to improve rather than diluting down. Yes I know that may incur more costs but some sort of wage limit has to be brought in. Let's face it Glasgow have obviously spent hard trying to win silverware but safe to say that has 'Bombed' so there are no guarantees lol
  13. I've got to say over the years I've had to qualms about collections for injured riders but what really gets me is when they ask for contributions towards machinery. Can you imagine a tradesman going round customers asking for a contribution towards new tools so he can get on with the job he's already getting paid for. I'm sorry but in my view if a rider or any other sportsman choses to make a career out of a sport then it's up to them to self fund. Equally I strongly object to national Lottery Funding going to a few elite athletes to help in their pursuit of a bit of plated metal at the Olympics. It's their dream so them finance it. Lottery money would be better used to fund sporting clubs and give more youngsters the chance to participate. This old dinosaur is going for a lie down now. PS Would anyone care to donate to my luxury pneumatic bed?
  14. Is this assuming their will still be a Premier League next year?
  15. Chances are he'll be back 'home' at Peterborough next year anyway with Scotty going 'home' to Ippo. Can Richie Worrall come 'home to Ashfield then please?
  16. Yeah Murrayfield would make a fine venue........... ....but then some would complain the ice made it a trick track
  17. I don't subscribe to Armadale being a trick track anymore than "The Pencil" was at Shawfield. Challenging yes but when you watch some of the juniors going around it they seem to manage fine. Is it a case of some rider now have a psychological block as they've got it into their head that it is a trick track? There have been numerous challenging tracks over the years but good riders will ride and score anywhere.
  18. Aye if you saw a dog or a cat with a tail at Powderhall it was a tourist. used to slash car tyre just to get fresh air I'm told
  19. Got to ask why yet again? It has happened several times this season as have the lack of many other tactical change.
  20. Lack, yet again, of tactical awareness and/or rules?
  21. Yes sadly I can't see us taking much in from our visits to Ippo & Lakeside even though Cookie goes well at Foxhall and Sarj has been known to as well. And in all honesty I think that next Tuesday may be a struggle especially if Nathan is still unavailable.
