British final 2020
cinderfella replied to Nassa10's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
Apologies if this has already been asked and I've missed it but has there been a list published anywhere of riders (apart from Robert Lambert, Charles Wright & Craig Cook) who have openly declined to ride at Ipswich for whatever reason? There seem to be a few established names missing and with only three places left I assume a few may have decided not to race. -
Just heard a rumour on the grapevine is Glasgow have been replaced by Isle of Snow Wight Dwarfs with their 1 to 7 made up of riders called Happy (got a big sponsor ship deal), Sneezy (who has a dust allergy), Dopey (who is addicted to the smell of methanol and Castrol R), Bashful (returns to the pits straight after winning a race), Grumpy (always get last gate choice if nominated for ht15), Doc (got a good supplier of face masks) and Sleepy (who always misses the gate). Well if racing goes ahead it is going to be a bit of a fairy tale.

No it was available last season through a link to EMTV.
-
Edinburgh had pay-per-view available for home matches to anyone living more than a specified distance from the stadium last year so it must be possible to do if a club has the correct equipment available.
-
Well look on the positive side as with Glasgow not running that will be at least two less defeats for The Monarch's this year.
-
Edinburgh obviously don't agree as they have declared they are ready to go.
-
Why does everyone assume Glasgow have got bottomless pockets? If you have watched the recent In The Red documentary you will have heard the promotion saying they loose about £100k a season. Glasgow are very lucky to have owners that not only support speedway but also invest in the area including the junior (equivalent of non-league) football team but there is a limit to how long the Facenna's can be expected to dig into their personal accounts. Perhaps this is one of the reasons Glasgow have been honest and up front about saying they are not running. Having 6 overseas riders in the team this year must also raise problems.

Thoughtless idiots. It's one thing putting your own health at risk but how many others lives are they putting at risk too? Guess we can thank Demonic Cummings for making folk think everything is OK and lockdown is a waste of time.

Good point. Speedway engines being what they are can blow up at anytime and without other meetings and regular income guaranteed only the riders with top level sponsorship would surely consider 'open' meetings. Take into account the fact that social distancing as regards who can travel together will still be in place, having a mechanic having to travel separately will just add to the expense.that clubs It's interesting we hear through BSPA that clubs are still hopeful of meetings but it would be interesting to hear what riders themselves actually think without the risk of prejudicing their careers?
-
Can't see Glasgow being punished for taking a sensible decision. If The BSPA/SCB did punish Glasgow would they then have to punish the likes of Jason Doyle, who by electing to ride in Poland and ruling himself out of British Speedway, broke his contract with Swindon? This season should just be written off and if teams want to race or put on meetings, provided they can be done safely, fine but under no circumstances should Glasgow or any other club electing not to compete be discriminated against come 2021.

Wouldn't it be great if Grin had a solution?

While there is a administrative ruling body individual teams must be able to make decisions and not be forced into competing because the majority of its members do want to run. As the Glasgow Promotion have pointed out the Scottish Government have different restrictions and rules in place to that imposed by Westminster so running North of the Border could be different. If speedway is run this year it will be on a very diluted level with the unavailability of overseas riders having a major impact. A diluted sport can only be harmful and would do nothing to attract new fans or sponsors. Plus we don't want to put further stress on the NHS by sending injuries to A&E dept in these times. I would suggest this is an ideal time for the ruling bodies to have a good think about the future of the sport and decide in which direction to move forward. Stay safe everyone and remember there is more to life than speedway

And here's Glasgow doing you a favour and running a double header to give you a chance of making the play-offs before the cut-off

Glasgow vs Newcastle SGB Championship (7pm)
cinderfella replied to StevePark's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Despite spending his formative years following The Tigers lol -
Is it a coincidence that the appeal is being heard now that KL's season is effectively over? I'd really like to know who was behind the appeal as Glasgow could be the real losers in this situation going into the play-offs possibly without their No1?

Since when has it said anywhere in the rule book an official's duties should include walking in front of a rider under power and obstruct him? Common sense tells you you don't do that - the guy was being an officious idiot. -

I wonder if Buster asked the SCB to check the fixture list first? -

Ironic that the two riders with the lesser bans miss more meetings lol. Isn't that typical of British Speedway? -

And what punishment do the Eastbourne Promotion get?
