Maybe a draft system like the NFL should be introduced with lower placed teams getting first options on any rider not secured on rolling contracts. I suppose it would be a bit like the old rider control and no doubt some would refuse not wanting to travel to say Plymouth or Glasgow. (Glasgow always seemed hard done by in that respect back in the 60s & 70s).
-
....and some folk don't recognise a touch of humour
-
Glasgow & Edinburgh paired together? More chance of Rebecca Vardy and Coleen Rooney being start line girls together
-
Although I would like to see the PL & CL merged to make one large league I do acknowledge that the shortfall of riders makes that improbable without changing the whole format.
-
Part of the whole problem is there are too many Promoters don't know how to promote their product properly. When you think of names like Charles Ochiltree, Ian Thomas, Bill Bridget, The Hoskins', Neil McFarlane to name a few they knew how to get bodies in the stadium every week and then come back for more. Maybe all the H&S regulations about what you can't do or must do have left the entertainment aspect stale. There was always something going on at meetings when I was a kid and riders were allowed to become personalities good guys and villans, to the fans.

Yeah given he already has a Meccano set on his collar bone he will have to be totally sure than everything is healed 100%.
-
The guy has form for this kind of stuff so why are we surprised? OK he is a professional sportsman trying to make a living like everyone else but he shows no integrity nor loyalty. Maybe he's going to find he's bitten the hand that feeds him once too often.
-
He decided not to ride in the UK even declining to captain Sheffield when they moved up to the PL. I think his Polish connections, both family and professionally, had a lot to do with his decision. Probably better money to be earned there too.
-
Yeah that would also rule out my suggestion of Sam Jensen too.
-
Use the season ticket money to top up what Ellis would have been taking as British Champion and sign a good foreigner. There are folk like Sam Jensen or Danny Gappmeier to name but two that I'm sure could do a job as a 2nd string. Or go to Wolves and ask for their American Luke Becker to double up even? There are always options especially when you owe it to misled fans.
-
Yeah the dangerous thing though is that other riders' livelihoods are at risk if fans do walk with their feet and hard earned cash. Only way to regain the trust of fans is for them to see serious action taken against the management/promotion.
-
Yeah riders have been disciplined in the past for bringing the sport in to disrepute. Time to do something about this
-
And fans have put a lot of hard earned money into season tickets and admissions etc only to find out they were duped into believing the British Champions was riding for them this season. Yes we all want speedway to continue at as many tracks as possible but also to be run honestly for honest fans
-
Flip that means any manager or promoter saying "they're needing a number 1" could be exactly that
-
Totally agree. King's Lynn announced originally that NKI was only signed on a short term contract while Peter Kildeman was regaining fitness and although his stay has been extended I'm sure Stars' fan appreciated the honesty.
-
Interesting though that not too long ago Sedgeman was being touted as a possible No 1 at Newcastle.
-
Sedgeman for Auty would have seemed the obvious swap but obviously are trying to do Hellish a favour by releasing him. Can't understand why they would want to do him any favours. As for rider replacement it's time the rule was changed so that facility is only available for a certain period. When you look at the situations at Birmingham, Newcastle and Plymouth fans are being shortchanged yet again.

From the first lot of pictures posted of the work it didn't look like they had dug it out. If it has hopefully been dug out I guess someone will be clocking up a good few laps in a heavy vehicle ensuring the surface is well packed down?

BRUMMIES MOVE FOR ELLIS THURSDAY, MARCH 24, 2022 BIRMINGHAM have pulled off the signing of reigning British Champion Adam Ellis. The 26-year-old, who won the National League with the club in 2015 and had a further spell at Perry Barr four years later has agreed to join the Brummies and completes their side for the coming season. The above is the statement release back in March when news of Ellis' signing was made. It clearly states "coming season" and nothing about being short term. Someone is being economical with the truth and you must wonder how many season tickets were purchased thing the current British Champion would be racing at Perry Barr every Wednesday? No wonder attendances are falling at numerous tracks
-
Which begs the question: Were the Birmingham Promotion aware of this and misled the fans or is Ellis breaking his contract? If it is the latter the surely, British Champion or not, he should face serious sanctions. But we all know, apart from the paying fans, there is no loyalty left in speedway.
-
That's the whole problem with British Speedway. We need one INDEPENDENT administrative body. Yes promoters, riders and dare I say fans could have representatives on committees but while promoters are calling the shots the sport is only going to dissolve slowly toll it disappears.
-
If there is a ban coming would or should he have been riding for GB in Poland yesterday? Or was that another case of BSPA/SCB doing what suits them at the time?
-
Jeez what a bummer having two 'international' meetings running on the same afternoon. Did Bomber Harris have to flip a coin to decide which one to ride in?
-
The way things are going the only team Bomber Harris won't have guested for this season will be THE BANDITS
