Remember him with the old JAP and the gas goggles many riders used back then even though JAWAs and 'monkey masks' were the in thing. George Major and Mike Broadbank were the same.
-
Yeah with all due respect to him he and his old JAP should have retired before that stint. But I guess speedway was in his blood.
-
With in his era ans statistically I would find it hard to argue with Steve Lawson being the GOAT but you can argue he never made it on the World stage against the top riders of his day whereas McKinlay and McMillan did. Keep forgetting about the impact Jayden O'Malley made for The Tigers - deliberately lol
-
Aye counting wasn't his strong point. Say why you want about Lee (I will) he always gave 100%

I have to admit that when I read that Shane Parker had been voted the greatest Tiger of all time I laughed. I though how could the present generation of fans compare him to Jimmy Mac or Charlie Monk (my boyhood hero's) and then it dawned on me that the previous generation would have said the same about Tommy Millar and Ken McKinlay and their predecessors. Having been lucky enough to have been brought up on 60s and 70s speedway this old dinosaur finds kevlars and lay downs a bit 2nd class.

Next season could be interest given the number of closures we are hearing about. The PL certainly can't run with 5 teams so whether some PL teams move up, which I think is unlikely given enforced race nights, or the three current leagues amalgamate to become two it think teams will be looking at more fixtures.
-
However did we manage to race over 20 home meetings back in the 60s and 70s? Oh yes a wee drop of rain didn't deter riders back then.

I was just assuming their may have been a compulsory practice on Sat.

Longtrack commitments

Thank goodness Glasgow haven't to worry about the Carnation Milk Cup either and working out who gets to use SoG.
-
I think stock car racing anywhere offers much better value for money than speedway. As has been suggested elsewhere before maybe speedway has to go back to semi amateur status if it is going to grow again. Stock engines from mainstream manufacturers would be a step in the right direction imo.

Seem to recall he was due to ride for Tigers at Hull on the fateful evening 5he Hull Promotion found various bits of equipment had been removed from the stadium by the owners and reportedly sold to a rival promotion. From what I remember his father was said to overpowering.

It's like back in the days of Rider Control back in the 60s and 70s. The number of riders assigned to Scottish teams that refused to ride for them was embarrassing. Story goes Ivan Mauger was supposedly assigned to Coatbridge in 1973 but refused because a Friday track interfered with travel for his continental meetings. One of the reasons for him leaving Belle Vur who rode on a Sat if course

Oxford v Glasgow - Play Offs - 13 Sept

That won't have been the first or second such conversation this season but when you choose not to look at the facts and make changes you can't expect anything else. I'd argue Glasgow have a formidable top 3 just as Poole, Oxford and Redcar do but the lower end of the team shall we say lacks that punch to get the job done. I've stated before your reserves should be beating visiting reserves and even second strings at home but more often on not its the visiting reserve riders who have come out on top. Too late this season again so surely lesson will have been learned? -

There's a few folk on Cami should try to sign next year. They make better (or should that be bitter?) attempts at point scoring than some riders -

Agreed. His knowledge is second to none. He can even recite which helmet colour goes from which gate position for every heat in both columns. Sadly I think his other commitments prevent him from taking on the manager's job full time. -

Riders come and go every season but the one constant in us winning nothing has been team manager. Coincidence? I think not! -

Reserves were the chillies heel but Brennan wasn't much better. L10 points is a lot to make up. At least Vad has ridden Redcar so that is to our advantage. -

No. I'd still have had him but seemingly the manager put all hopes of that to bed last year in the final at Poole. Got a habit of getting shot of the wrong guys. -

Yeah when in this meeting it would make sense to name a no 8.
