  1. Only thing I'll question is you saying it's more expensive. 90% of the riders ride in both leagues so unless PL promoters are foolishly paying out more the costs can't be too different. Travel expense wise I'd suggest would work out about the same over the season with Peterborough being the furthest away.
  2. Well after last night's thrashing at Poole I think The Tigers need a rebuild for next season. With nearest rivals Edinburgh unlikely to run would now be the time for Glasgow to step up (assuming their will still be PL and CL levels) and rebuild from scratch? Any thoughts?
  3. Yeah one league with no GP riders and good old second half racing. I remember when the reward for winning the reserve/ junior races in the 2nd half could mean a team place the following week. Riders missing fixtures to do individual meetings effectively killed British Speedway. Ask Eastbourne or Arena fans. If the GP is that important to the powers that be time to go full F1 with 22 rounds around the world.
  4. OK 4 new riders but WHERE will they be racing is what we want to know?
  5. Or at GP Qualifier at Glasgow where riders gave it their all on a perfect track yet a few found the fence.
  6. So then they would be going into a dangerous bend 3 at speed? Not a good idea
  7. Just seen the line-up for the CLRC: 1 Michael Palm Toft (Plymouth) 2 Leon Flint (Berwick) 3 Lewis Kerr (Redcar) 4 Ryan Douglas (Scunthorpe) 5 Nick Morris (Leicester) 6 Danny King (Poole) 7 Chris Harris (Berwick) 8 Richard Lawson (Poole) 9 Scott Nicholls (Oxford) 10 Justin Sedgmen (Birmingham) 11 Charles Wright (Redcar) 12 Sam Masters (Edinburgh) 13 Troy Batchelor (Oxford) 14 Craig Cook (Glasgow) 15 Josh Pickering (Edinburgh) 16 Kyle Howarth (Leicester) As a Glasgow fan I can't believe we have only one rider listed. It cant be on averages as there are several riders from various teams who have higher averages who are omitted too. Tom Brennan, Ben Basso and Uli Oostergaard are all worthy of a place so unless they have been declared unfit you have to wonder why and with Glagow at Plymouth the previous evening there are bound to be some die-hard Tigers fans around. Perhaps they don't want them getting more laps at Poole with the play-offs coming up?
  8. Got to ask why folk find speedway boring? Is it too many FTG races? Is it brands of bikes no one has heard of and will never see anywhere else other speedway, grassyrack or longtrack? Let's face it unlike 99% of other motorsports you get to see the whole race from any viewing point in the stadium so that must be a positive. Despite £10 and kids go free offers speedway does not offer value for money. I took my sons to stockcar racing and they saw 20 races of at least 16 laps with upwards of 20 mainly recognisable cars in each race not far off what a speedway meeting admission costs. Of course they wanted to go back. Speedway needs a big rethink if it is going to survive. If kids don't like it we will never attract TV companies to the level we want.
  9. Anyone know what's going on with the Glasgow website? You can't access throught the Speedway GB page as there is concerns over the site's security and when I've tried to access it directly I'm getting a 'forbidden' message. Not very helpful in view of the big meeting this weekend
  10. Just out of interest what would folk make of Odsal Stadium being used again? The capacity is approx 30,000 and the track has been relaid albeit for stockcars. There used to be some great meetings there so why not again? Be nice to get a team riding there again too.
  11. If London cannot support a league team as things stand (I know neither does Cardiff) surely the significant difference in accommodation costs etc would put doubt in holding a GP there? The difference between travelling to Cardiff or London from Scotland for me is negligible but other factors such as cost would certainly influence me.
  12. Well if the organisers are struggling to get venues they've got to ask themselves why that is? Maybe it's time we returned to days of the old one off finals and all the qualifying routes. Mind you I doubt we will ever return to the days of British and Commonwealth riders doing 3 qualifying rounds, two semifinals and then the British Final and onwards. We struggle to find enough Brits to make up a British Final as it is these days. So where did it all go wrong? In my opinion certain parties got too greedy and overly enthusiastic about having a GP series and it screwed up British Speedway. Old dinosaur rant over
  13. A second GP? Yes let the GP become a 22 round series with full time riders only participating in it and perhaps then British speedway will recover and return to the great standard it once was. I'm sure the leagues would survive without the 16 top riders (well we almost do already)
  14. He lucky its in Cardiff and not another Celtic country believe me
  15. How about we go back to the 3/2/1 scoring but ifvits a 3-3 there is bonus point PROVIDED there are four finishers unless theres has been an exclusion and if you score a 5-1 you get a bonus point . Going by this scoring last night would have looked like this: Leicester 18+4 Edinburgh 9+2 Glasgow 15+1 Scunthorpe 10+1 Birmingham 8 Poole 15+2 Plymouth 4 Berwick 15+3 Oxford 8+1 Redcar 16+ 3 The only difference wold have been Berwick qualifying for the semi-final ahead of Poole courtesy of an extra bonus point.
  16. Can anyone actually confirm if Adam Ellis is riding or not? Previous consecutive post contradict one another.
  17. Maybe French Customs were doing their bit to get David Bellego into the meeting? Luke Bekker being based in the UK would be the obvious replacement if required though.
  18. That would also make a lot of sense from Adam's sponsors' view. They would at least get some tv publicity. I'm sure Adam would have a few new sponsors and spent on machinery and equipment upgrades so at least they would get something out of it. Hope he is fit enough to at least start the meeting.
  19. Poole fans seem to conveniently forget they got a proven heat leader in Richard Lawson from Glasgow on a full transfer in the negotiations over Basso.
  20. Yes it hadn't been for the advance tickets sold before the line ups and subsequent amended line ups had been announced the BSpA (deliberate small p as they do little real promoting) may have taken a financial hit which may (???) have brought them to their senses.
  21. BSPA proposed that in order to save Bomber's time as stats show he is the highest average rider at several teams, tonight's meeting would incorporate The British Final, The PLRC and The CLRC. However Bomber rejected this suggestion on the grounds it did not include the NDLRC.
  22. Thanks to several teams the whole league has been a mockery this year and I can't see next year being any better. The only way the sport is going to regain any credibility, in my opinion, is to go back to a single league of a decent standard with no doubling up (or down) and teams that can't attract riders amalgamate with the NDL and hopefully bring up the standard and give young/new riders more experience. Yes I can hear riders saying they need two teams to earn a living but back before doubling up diluted the sport world class riders rode in BL div 1 for one team only and earned however they could.
