  1. Agree, Wilko will play an important part of the outcome in this meeting. We are very vulnerable at reserve, and we can't expect Ricky to be at full match fitness. Could be a tricky night.
  2. I think the foam fence saved several nasty injuries on Saturday: and a heck of lot since it was installed. I'm going to stick my head up here and say the track certainly didn't look as safe as the fence on Saturday. I don't know why, but there were a lot of riders seemingly losing control. It's unusual as our track is considered one of the safest to ride. The thing is, Taffy, you only hear what you want to, not necessarily what is said to you. That seems to make sense. So it was 11 riders that you didn't approve of at the weekend. Fair enough. It was certainly an eventful meeting. Not a classic, but still one of the better ones, and a great result. David weaving pass of 2 riders in one straight was pure class! We can count the dissenters on here on one hand, thankfully.
  3. I don't think Shielfield really suited him. He did a decent enough job for us, though. Looking forward to having Ricky back
  4. It was pretty drawn out, for various reasons, but I wasn't bored. There is always plenty of banter to be had on the 3rd bend when there is stoppages. I do still much prefer when we whizz through meetings, though, as is the norm. I think what we saw was the combination of tricky (not difficult) track conditions coupled with bikes that just do not respond like they used to pre-new silencer introduction. Something has to be done about the bikes in particular, it is clearly a problem. There was plenty of incident in the meeting, so I think it is unfair to call it boring. I too am delighted that Ricky is coming back. Kennett kind of did the job, but having only seen him at Shielfield he didn't look like he has progressed from his previous PL form. Nothing to get excited about that is for sure. I also wonder if there will be just one change, or more?
  5. I thought he was banned? Well, I couldn't resist with all this talk of fishing!
  6. I suggest that Kelvin uses the phrase "I suggest", just ever so slightly less than he did tonight. Back to speedway and I suggest we have some new, young GP winners coming up soon. Crikey!
  7. Two great back-to-back wins for the Bandits, even better considering the bad luck with injuries. Chuffed
  8. Bandits line-up at Glasgow today (3pm tapes up) confirmed as:- 1. Richard Lawson (guest) 2. David Bellego 3. Robin Aspegren 4. Matty Wethers 5. Kozza Smith R/R 6. Liam Carr 7. Paul Starke Hope our top 4 fire as they did last night!
  9. Very frustrating at times. Although, to be fair, he was excellent tonight, and looked to enjoy himself too.
  10. Unimpressive first ride from Aspegren, then looked as if he had a rocket up his backside after that. Very good when the mood takes him...
  11. I think he has been a great signing, rock solid and a great racer.
  12. Wethers once again magnificent, and a well deserved maximum! Barker = stunning. Bellegeo also very unlucky not to get a max, he flew round in heat 1. Starke did well to get a paid win in heat 14 after a punishing schedule. Aspegren looking much more like the rider we know he can be. Kozza clearly not himself. Barrett looked his usual solid self until the reckless Schramm forced him to take avasive action. Barrett did very well not to run over the top of Schramm. Plymouth were a bit disappointing to be honest, and Wells was a poor guest. Bech looks to be a good prospect though. Very entertaining meeting, and a gutsy performance from the Bandits. And, I'll say it again. Matty Wethers doing the business for us yet again Oh, and yes the Plymouth team manager lived up to his namesake!
  13. I can see where Screm is coming from, some of our riders might just want to bounce back from Thursday night. If everyone fires, then most teams will struggle against us: if... If we don't, then Plymouth are certainly capable of a victory. Ahhhh, the unpredictability of speedway!
  14. I think this could also be very tight. It really depends if we fire on all cylinders or not. We're due to do that. I predict Matty Wethers to put it another 100%, solid effort.
  15. I am going to agree and disagree. Of course, you need an angle and some interest, however, there needs to be at least a little bit of thought and class in the release. It is the one thing that disappoints me. I love the way the club is run, I love the way the facilities are constantly improved, I love Saturday night speedway at Berwick. They are too childish in tone, they need to be much more creative. I don't like to criticise, but I also thought the "broomstick brigade" was a pretty weak attempt at humour. The one press release that sticks in my mind as being very good - and now almost legendary - is when Peter announced Henning Bager as the biggest signing in the club's history. It was outrageous and pulled off with such deadpan style: tremendous. Anyway, Barker is a great attraction for tomorrow evening. He was untouchable a couple of weeks back. I think a few of our riders will be looking to turn in a good performance too. Looking forward to it
  16. Good to hear of riders giving it a go in bad conditions: good for the sport in general. I know it is always a bad idea to comment on a meeting that one hasn't attended, but to echo general chat on the terraces, we look a heat leader short and are going to struggle because of that. Looks like Matty Wethers put in yet another solid performance. He has been the highlight of the season so far, for me. Always battling hard for points, and always in the scoring.
  17. Air fences are part of the overall safety, but not the full story. The other areas tend to be easily remedied. Money or a safer sport? Safer sport every time for me.
  18. The only comment I can make on this thread is that I have seen several high speed hits on the new polyfoam fence that are very similar to previous hits. Without fail, every rider has been able to walk back to the pits (no, I don't mean every spill, before anyone decide to mis-interpret what I am saying). To take one example, when Jac Rempala hit the 3rd bend fence square on with his back, he was badly injured: I think broken back. There was an almost exact hit last year (I forget who) and they walked back to the pits. It has undoubtedly saved a large number of nasty injuries.
  19. I agree Barker was superb. Kozza and Robin got out the gate in heat 15, but Barker was past them both after the 4th bend. Kozza didn't make it easy for him either. I though Matty Wethers was hard done to by Lanham. It was frightening - and rather bizarre - to see Kozza dancing out of the way of Tungate and Starke who did well to avoid him. Phew! Glad meeting me didn't put a dampener on it
  20. Barker made the other riders look like wee boys tonight. He was excellent. Nice, to meet you too, incidentally For me, the Bandits are missing a bit of fight. They look a wee bit too cosy, just performing OK, but missing a bit of aggression. Overall, not a bad meeting though and a fair enough result.
  21. Looking forward to this. Got at least one of the newcomers from the Sky meeting coming back and looking to be a regular.
  22. Your quick wit and repartee always cease to amaze me. A very classy post, Callum.
