  1. Cookie clearly hasn't got what it takes, mentally, to progress from where he is. Don't expect much more from him over the years because of this.
  2. Phwoarrrggh! Now that was speedway! The practice session was a fantastic appetiser with a lot of the guys looking very impressive. The Poles and Milic in particular. The real thing was spectacular and breath-taking, some incredibly competitive speedway. I don't know really where to start, there was just so much action. Certainly Kyle Howarth's performance was one of the highlights. He has massively improved since I last saw him. A great meeting for him. Also of note is the lines that these guys were riding. If nothing else, it proved beyond any doubt that there are several lines around Shielfield. The riders just need to be be capable of firstly picking them out and, secondly, riding them. The way that these guys were throwing the bikes at each other and around the track was incredible: and all within control. All with handshakes and respect (other than Lebedev's outburst at Bellego after their tussle). Possibly the best speedway meeting I have been to. Brilliantly run again by everyone at Berwick Speedway and hope that we get something else next season.
  3. Brilliant, hopefully there are a lot of the Monarchs in attendance too. Fantastic that everyone gave so generously.
  4. Great guy and great speedway rider. Hope he makes a speedy recovery.
  5. So one of the usual suspects is on here again knocking a rider who is coming back from a long line of injuries, and completely forgetting the consistent double figures he knocked in for us prior to that. It also looks like almost everyone struggled due to track conditions last night. So it is unfair to comment, especially when you weren't there. It's always easy to have a go sat next to a computer though...
  6. Poor advert for speedway tonight. Had two folk new to the sport watching. No passing, endless replays, tediously slow pace, weaker teams getting double points. All capped-off with that "game of bingo" for the last 4 heats. Come on, we can do better than this for our sport, surely?
  7. Good for you It is still a Hell of a lot more than you, my friend Maybe not about speedway, though...
  8. As far as I am aware, there are no knocking shops in Berwick, so you are probably right.
  9. It's been a funny season on the line-up side of things, but that can be said for a lot of teams. Personally, I'd like to see averages binned, and a squad system introduced. Now, as far as Saturday goes. Good fightback from the Bears, but we were let down at number 3. Wilko looked to be the Bears' big dangerman: but Starkey soon extinguished that threat. Great to see him improving in leaps and bounds, and interacts with the crowd well too. He's quickly becoming a Bandits' favourite Once again, Matty Wethers puts in another solid score, we could have done with a better result in heat 14, but he more than did his job on the night. For the rest of this season I'd like to see Ricky get a good run and get his form back ready for the start of next year, and get him doubled-up next season too.
  10. Screm, this is one of those rare occasions where I agree with you 100%. It was also good to see the track in suck good condition: makes a mock of Taffy's earlier posts. Aspergren was dismal tonight. Starke is improving massively. A great meeting from him. Despite his excellent performance, our number 3 ensured we were always going to struggle to win this. Great to see Ricky back.
  11. Agree, Wilko will play an important part of the outcome in this meeting. We are very vulnerable at reserve, and we can't expect Ricky to be at full match fitness. Could be a tricky night.
  12. I think the foam fence saved several nasty injuries on Saturday: and a heck of lot since it was installed. I'm going to stick my head up here and say the track certainly didn't look as safe as the fence on Saturday. I don't know why, but there were a lot of riders seemingly losing control. It's unusual as our track is considered one of the safest to ride. The thing is, Taffy, you only hear what you want to, not necessarily what is said to you. That seems to make sense. So it was 11 riders that you didn't approve of at the weekend. Fair enough. It was certainly an eventful meeting. Not a classic, but still one of the better ones, and a great result. David weaving pass of 2 riders in one straight was pure class! We can count the dissenters on here on one hand, thankfully.
  13. I don't think Shielfield really suited him. He did a decent enough job for us, though. Looking forward to having Ricky back
  14. It was pretty drawn out, for various reasons, but I wasn't bored. There is always plenty of banter to be had on the 3rd bend when there is stoppages. I do still much prefer when we whizz through meetings, though, as is the norm. I think what we saw was the combination of tricky (not difficult) track conditions coupled with bikes that just do not respond like they used to pre-new silencer introduction. Something has to be done about the bikes in particular, it is clearly a problem. There was plenty of incident in the meeting, so I think it is unfair to call it boring. I too am delighted that Ricky is coming back. Kennett kind of did the job, but having only seen him at Shielfield he didn't look like he has progressed from his previous PL form. Nothing to get excited about that is for sure. I also wonder if there will be just one change, or more?
  15. I thought he was banned? Well, I couldn't resist with all this talk of fishing!
  16. I suggest that Kelvin uses the phrase "I suggest", just ever so slightly less than he did tonight. Back to speedway and I suggest we have some new, young GP winners coming up soon. Crikey!
  17. Two great back-to-back wins for the Bandits, even better considering the bad luck with injuries. Chuffed
  18. Bandits line-up at Glasgow today (3pm tapes up) confirmed as:- 1. Richard Lawson (guest) 2. David Bellego 3. Robin Aspegren 4. Matty Wethers 5. Kozza Smith R/R 6. Liam Carr 7. Paul Starke Hope our top 4 fire as they did last night!
  19. Very frustrating at times. Although, to be fair, he was excellent tonight, and looked to enjoy himself too.
