I think the current Promotion should adopt the Peter Waite School of Optimism. Every year our illustrious former leader would hail "We're going to win the league!", and everyone thought "No chance!" Now we have a promotion who are a bit more understated, we expect a league win every season, at the very least! Still, very entertaining some of the comments on here

Yeah get Matty back, top of the list. A good, competitive rider like Matty is always a good starting point.
-
Probably not, but he's been the one rider that has been fairly predictable at least this season. Good, solid team man.
-
I would add Wethers: he has been very solid for us and has been often overlooked as he has delivered almost completely without fail.
-
I think some of comments on here about Alex are out of order. The fact that he is back on a bike after the most horrendous crash I have seen in over 30 years of watching speedway, should mean he is - at the very least - shown respect. He has talent, and with a bit more luck will develop as a rider.

Craig Cook Declines Test Meetings Gb V Aus
bigeddiechek replied to Fiesta's topic in International World of Speedway
I didn't suggest he was in a bad place. I am just pointing out that to move to the next level (i.e. like Tai Woffinden has), he needs to mentally step up a level. I don't expect that he can do that: however, I would love to see him do that. I like him as a rider and would love to see him and Barker step up their games. -

Good post DavyH. I'm not aware of what has gone on in previous years. Re. the Barker incident, I wouldn't be at all surprised that Barker did one heck of a lot of provoking. They both consistently do things that show a lack of focus and a lack of full professionalism. When you start to get to the top level it is all about that incredibly sharp, relentless focus on performance. Neither are ingrained in their though process. Take the Poles walking the track last night at Shielfield. They were the only riders who were continually discussing lines and the track the whole way round. They were studying every detail and visualising how they were going to ride various lines. The others were just chatting and giving the track the odd kick. To go to the next level, that is what it takes. It's all in the head. -
Really nice comments to make there, and I'm sure all us Berwick fans and the Club Management appreciate this. Also, I think it is an event where Dick Barrie's experience really comes to the fore. He has so much information at his fingertips that he really does keep things moving along very nicely. I'm not really sure what some are looking for in terms of presentation. The incredible boredom of fireworks? Invest in large screens at either bend? Cheerleaders? Certainly a new PA system would make a huge difference. Presentation is clear, knowledgeable, and apposite. Just enough to assist the racing which was certainly the main attraction!

Lebedevs would fit.

Cookie clearly hasn't got what it takes, mentally, to progress from where he is. Don't expect much more from him over the years because of this. -
Phwoarrrggh! Now that was speedway! The practice session was a fantastic appetiser with a lot of the guys looking very impressive. The Poles and Milic in particular. The real thing was spectacular and breath-taking, some incredibly competitive speedway. I don't know really where to start, there was just so much action. Certainly Kyle Howarth's performance was one of the highlights. He has massively improved since I last saw him. A great meeting for him. Also of note is the lines that these guys were riding. If nothing else, it proved beyond any doubt that there are several lines around Shielfield. The riders just need to be be capable of firstly picking them out and, secondly, riding them. The way that these guys were throwing the bikes at each other and around the track was incredible: and all within control. All with handshakes and respect (other than Lebedev's outburst at Bellego after their tussle). Possibly the best speedway meeting I have been to. Brilliantly run again by everyone at Berwick Speedway and hope that we get something else next season.

Ipswich Vs Berwick Thursday August 1st 7.30pm

So one of the usual suspects is on here again knocking a rider who is coming back from a long line of injuries, and completely forgetting the consistent double figures he knocked in for us prior to that. It also looks like almost everyone struggled due to track conditions last night. So it is unfair to comment, especially when you weren't there. It's always easy to have a go sat next to a computer though... -

Poor advert for speedway tonight. Had two folk new to the sport watching. No passing, endless replays, tediously slow pace, weaker teams getting double points. All capped-off with that "game of bingo" for the last 4 heats. Come on, we can do better than this for our sport, surely? -

As far as I am aware, there are no knocking shops in Berwick, so you are probably right. -

It's been a funny season on the line-up side of things, but that can be said for a lot of teams. Personally, I'd like to see averages binned, and a squad system introduced. Now, as far as Saturday goes. Good fightback from the Bears, but we were let down at number 3. Wilko looked to be the Bears' big dangerman: but Starkey soon extinguished that threat. Great to see him improving in leaps and bounds, and interacts with the crowd well too. He's quickly becoming a Bandits' favourite Once again, Matty Wethers puts in another solid score, we could have done with a better result in heat 14, but he more than did his job on the night. For the rest of this season I'd like to see Ricky get a good run and get his form back ready for the start of next year, and get him doubled-up next season too. -

Screm, this is one of those rare occasions where I agree with you 100%. It was also good to see the track in suck good condition: makes a mock of Taffy's earlier posts. Aspergren was dismal tonight. Starke is improving massively. A great meeting from him. Despite his excellent performance, our number 3 ensured we were always going to struggle to win this. Great to see Ricky back.
