  1. I think the coverage on Sky 2 years in a row, getting international meetings, a big effort to promote throughout the area, and a season where we are challenging for the league has put the club consistently in view. I also notice a lot of folk bringing along a mate who is new to the sport. This is having the effect of people either coming along to try it out, or people deciding to come back after a few years. Everyone I've talked to that have came along really enjoyed the night and will come back. Next Saturday's meeting with the double-header has got a few folk I know fancying a night out at the skidding. Great, and hopefully it keeps going. NICE TO SEE THE NEW HOLLAND FLAGS WERE UP, THAT MUST SURELY HAVE PLEASED SOME.
  2. It was a good meeting, and I think we did well to get the win. Somerset are very strong, Olly Allen was good value as always, along with Steen. All our other home riders did their part, Alex rode a couple of very hard 2nd bends to get his points, and Doolan sticking in some good performances. For Somerset meeting on a very cold night, it was a decent turnout, and I happened to bump into a family who I was surprised to see. First time they had come, loved it and are coming back next weekend. Just what we need new faces adding to the fanbase: and no, I didn't invite them, before I get an smarmy comments about bringing friends along.
  3. In principle it lies within the hands of the Promoters, however, the sport is in such a precarious financial situation it actually lies in the hands of the fans. If enough turn up to make the sport remotely profitable, then we can start shouting for the bells and whistles. The fact is if we keep knocking the sport and not turning up, there will be nothing left to knock. In the immediate future, the survival is in the hands of the fans: we can't get away from that. Although, this is one way that doesn't need to cost money that can help save the sport.
  4. Not at all, what is sad is that you invent material in an attempt to attack the poster. Therefore, I provided a post to support my post. I must say, it is very corinthian of you to knowledge your mistake with a "well done", thank you! Thirteen shifts in fourteen days, good lad, you'll be making someone a lot of money.
  5. http://www.speedway-forum.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=74515&p=2383425 The above is for Screm's benefit. Difficult to say if the GP being moved will make a difference. On the point of turnout: on thing is for sure, if fans don't turn up, then speedway will die. I think riders missing is a big factor. If it were feasible, I'd like to see a squad system.
  6. It was not a loaded question, you have answered that you would still have David and Matej; as I would. I don't know why you didn't just say that. All I was wondering was if you would be prepared to sacrifice better overseas riders not being available to the league. You clearly stated that you think the rules should change so that riders do not miss meeting due to other commitments. If you can find my post where I say I wouldn't sign Kus, then good luck to you. I said I was uncertain about him as a signing. I also think you will find that I was keeping an open mind. Likewise, I have been big enough to say that I have been more than won over by his performances. I think when you cannot answer direct questions posed by several posters, then one must question the motivation of the post.
  7. I'm with you as well Taffy. Since it was Screm that made the point, I'm interested if he actually would prefer that. It is what his post implies.
  8. I agree we need to stop this happening, it's especially a big hit to newer fans, I think, maybe not, maybe us all. Just out of curiosity, would you have not signed David and Matej because of this?
  9. I'm not sure it was the £10 deal, as when run last year there wasn't the noticeable difference in crowd size. I think the answer lies in it was actually a big occasion. For a teeny wee Northumbrian town to be challenging for a major league, and to be covered live on Sky is a big deal for the area. It stirred-up a lot of interest with folk who had never really come across speedway. Converting to full-time supporters is hard, but I'm sure it will have picked up a few occasional punters. I love how certain individuals like to have a dig at my being able to bring lots of newcomers along. It is psychologically very revealing! As I often say, real life is more important than virtual; to some, at least.
  10. My mate said that, I'll give it a go. Mind, I am a supposedly a humourless git!
  11. Have to admit to having never seen it, I live a sheltered life
  12. I've just been told "offline" that you did indeed completely misinterpret my post
  13. I was also thinking that the scores we are knocking in as title contenders will make a difference. This team could be a 60 pointer by the time it is all finished.
  14. Christ! Live music is even getting bashed now! I suppose Garry Glitter was in attendance, Taffy Rumour has it Family Guy was sighted too...
  15. Thanks for that, I was wondering if that would be the case. I think having the same team (providing it is a decent one) would be a great benefit for newer fans. Gives a better chance to get to know the riders. Plus, I want them all back!
  16. Absolutely, great looking team. I wonder with the rolling averages if we will be able to maintain the same lineup for next season. I don't think many would be against that! I met Matej briefly before Ipswich, really nice lad, and he came across a thoroughly professional which is clearly the case from his performances. I was going to take a bit of convincing at the start of the season, but didn't take long to COMPLETELY convince me. I don't like to compare, but he could he fill the void that was created when Rymel retired?
  17. I think there were a few who questioned his signing. I openly admit I was unsure. Equally I am delighted to be proven utterly wrong, and to say you were absolutely spot on about him making a mockery of his starting average. Doolan has answered the questions too. It's always a sign of a true competitor(s) who can raise their game under pressure. This is probably the most enjoyable season I can remember since being able to return regularly at the turn of the millennium. Long may it last! I think you will struggle to find a team that has consistency throughout the full season. Riders drift in and out of form. Thus fans' opinions to follow!
  18. It's just an observation that a lot of folk are making that you seem to be desperate to get the knives out at any opportunity, the flags and tractors, Vissing riding in Denmark (even though an official release was made days earlier), most people knew that Berge wasn't available this weekend, but yes he would have been a good guest. You've still not answered neil's point about the comparison with football teams announcement of starting line-ups...
