  1. I remember Keith signing for Milton Keynes but I thought he was only our no 8 so footage of him from that time might be hard to find. Is it a possibility that Wally Loak might have caught him in action during this time as well as his time at Peterborough?
  2. Giuseppe Marzotto "built" his first engine in 1979 but I thought it was a development of an existing engine?
  3. Duncan is currently recovering from a serious accident that occurred while racing in Germany. He is undergoing intense physiotherapy treatment everydayand is still awaiting another operation. The last I heard was he has been able to walk a few steps albeit supported but is still facing a long haul to recovery. There was a thread in the grasstrack section but there haven't been any updates for a while so I'm hoping his recovery is still making good progress.
  4. Thanks for confirming what I feared Ross. Your description of Peter exactly matches my memory of him, right down to the machinery! I also have one of those "hearts in mouths" memory's; Peter's front forks snapped as he came out of a bend while leading a race at Elfield Park. Peter was flung over the handlebars and left in an uncomfortable pile in the middle of the track with 3 other riders having to quickly find a way around him. He was still grinning and joking about his acrobatic dismount as we walked off the track, despite the pain of a broken collar bone. I'm afraid I can't offer any help with details of an individual meeting win, sorry.
  5. Not only did I find this moving, I was saddended to see Peter Byrne's name on the list. Am I right in thinking this is the same Peter that rode at Milton Keynes before their demise? If so, I remember helping him on occasions in the pits at Elfield Park. He got his chance in the first team as he was a great gater who, when the chance arose, managed to humble some of the quickest guys of the day.
  6. Didn't Mikes Brother also ride, I'm thinking Darren but I might be wrong? I seem to recall that he took part in a World Championship round when the quailified New Zealand rider withdrew from the meeting. He was the only other person at the track that day with the right license and a bike, so he got into the meeting.
  7. I decided to leave the decision to go till the last minute, so as it was bright and sunny I ventured to High Beech on Sunday morning. With the weather being much dryer than last year there were a few more people, bikes, stalls, etc amassed outside the Pub and even more poeple inside! Good to see a few old friends there as well as some new ones, nice to meet you startlinesid, see you at Rye or at the sidecar meetings in the forth coming season. Norbold looked busy selling and signing books for all he was worth, the new Norwich book looked like a popular seller. Biggest disapointment: no guest speakers or video room(or did I miss that?) Biggest buzz: standing in a forest during a sleet shower with the sound of 2 valve Jawa's and the smell of Castrol R for breakfast! Yummy, roll on the new season. BTW Sid, when I left they were still trying to get the same horse into the same box! Maybe they ought to learn how to ride a bike, I never had that much trouble getting a bike into a trailer!
  8. Thanks Steve, I was sarting to doubt myself about Dean Barker (well in the photo I mean ). How about Sott "Scud" Smith for photo 24?
  9. Gemini, didn't know if you had got the answers but here's my guesses. 19 in red is Gary Havelock 20 Joe Screen 21 Chris Manchester 23 Dean Barker 24 I recognise the bike covers, can't think who it is though
  10. The two earliest female riders were Fay Taylor and Eva Asquith that rode back in the first decades of speedway. Even Steve Hone may draw the line there! The only Swedish female riders, other than Ingrid, that I have found are Elisabett Michanek, Sister of the great Anders, and Rose-Marie Andersson who both made appearances for Getingarna in the late 70's early 80's. In an interview Elisabett was asked about changing facilities, to which her reply was "Oh, I change in the same room as the men. We all change together. We don't worry about such things in Sweden." From my calculations Elisabett would be about 48 now, is that who you may have been thinking of?
  11. Thats a great article pf, it seems you have a long tradition in your family for racing. So the obvoius question is, when are you going to start following on in the family tradition then? The other point of interest is that Sue Wood, despite having learnt to ride was not allowed to do so over here when they came over in 1980. At least some aspects of the laws have moved on in the last 25 years.
  12. A role he continued for the following year when Jason returned to Peterborough. That was the last time I saw Troy having shared many conversations with him during his days in Milton Keynes. I have great memories of him winning the NLRC at Coventry in 1988 with a 15 point max.
  13. A huge shame that such an exciting riders career was cut so short. He was an instant hit with the Peterborough fans for the short time he was there. I thought I had heard that Mikael was still involved in speedway as an engine tuner these days? Can anyone confirm that?
  14. Fantastic just seem like an understatement, and I've never been to Canterbury! The picture of Barry Thomas is well worth the effort you have put in steve. Please pass on a huge "thank you" to Terry Dawtry for lending and agreeing to let you put these photo's on the web.
