  1. Oo-er what will I do now was looking forward to visiting Redcar but its off. Nowt on the telly so I will just have to sharpen my pencil collection
  2. Thank you Steve for pointing out the article on one of my own websites! Looking forward to the trip to Redcar tonight weather permitting
  3. Yeah the weather has changed back to snow or mixture of rain and snow showers brrrr do they have speedway in Benidorm
  4. Yes I agree the diamonds to win. Its a must win for progress in the League Cup
  5. Redcar 1. Lasse Bjerre 2. Jacob Bukhave 3. Hugh Skidmore 4. Jonas B Andersen 5. David Bellego 6. Simon Nielsen 7. Lee Payne Newcastle 1. Robert Lambert 2. Tero Aarnio (R/R) 3. Matej Kus 4. Ludvig Lindgren 5. Steve Worrall 6. Lewis Rose 7. Danny Phillips If you know of any changes to either line up please post on here
  6. An enjoyable meeting although it has to be said the comets looking down on power. Steve is pushing young Robert for the number 1 jacket. A bit of rivalry I think is a good thing for the lads. Steve is a better gater with Robert better at overtaking just! Matej and Ludde are hard to forecast. 5-1, 4-2 and 3-3 but never a heat reverse that will do nicely for me. Either rider can step it up and win us a match Lewis Rose has started very well. I am a fan of Lewis so go on mate pick up them points you can definitely do it. Danny Phillips looks a great prospect. I am happy we signed him. He has had two or three great races I have witnessed. Good luck Monkey
  7. Hello! Here we go again. Newcastles home matches kick off with the second leg of the Ian Thomas Shield against Workington. Don't really know how both teams will line up so I am copying Comet Dans line ups from his first leg thread as follows: - Newcastle 1 Robert Lambert 2 Tero Aarnio 3 Matej Kus 4 Ludvig Lindgren © 5 Steve Worrall 6 Lewis Rose 7 Danny Phillips Workington 1 Ricky Wells © 2 R/R Rasmus Jensen 3 Kenneth Hansen 4 Mason Campton 5 Claus Vissing 6 Adam Roynon 7 Matt Williamson Newcastle have new boy (He is just a boy at 17 don't forget!) Robert Lambert at number 1 and new signings Matej Kus and Danny Phillips join Robert in making their debuts in a solid looking Newcastle side. A lot will be said about Robert Lambert missing meetings etc. I just hope he can fit all of his European commitments in and not miss many Newcastle fixtures. Steve should be able to continue where he left off last year and increase his average. Matej and Ludde may be paired together, if so they will be a really entertaining pair and yes at times they will frustrate us but both riders know what they have to do and can deliver the goods Tero, the hero should be at number 2 and in that position he should score loads of points Lewis Rose has talent and back at reserve he should be happier. I keep tipping him and will again, he can win us matches Welcome Danny Phillips. I hope you enjoy riding for the Diamonds, show us what you can do. All I can say about the Comets team is I am a fan of Ricky Wells but hope he has off nights on saturday and sunday
  8. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ snooze! ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ Wake me up when the news of our last signing breaks. Just before I go back to bed I want to say: - There is just a bit less than 3 weeks to the Workington weekend matches. With Matty in the side we have an attractive team, well done the promoters Let us hope we start winning right from the word go over in Cumbria.
  9. Am I right in thinking some form of meeting will take place in next few days to decide how much "Matty" Kus is going to cost the diamonds. I hope the commitee will make this decision with regard to speedway being a shoestring sport finances wise and let Matty come to us for a sensible fee. where did the winter go! Season 2016 is now just a month away
  10. Re Robert Lambert: A top rider will be in demand and so will miss a few of our matches. If you don't want this situation then you ignore the top guy and go for a lesser talent who may just appear more often for you. But hey!! I want to watch the top talent, Robert Lambert and not some lesser guy riding for us. Young Robert is a great signing. I cannot think of a better rider for The Diamonds number 1 slot. Robert on a past visit to Brough Park did what so few other riders have done. He/they attacked the bends with loads of throttle control, going in hard which unsettles the guy in front and is great to watch. I am really looking forward to March when it all kicks off. Robert has the potential to hit the top in the sport and Newcastle can play a part in his development
  11. Dave and the band of helpers deserve medals for braving the weather out there getting the track sorted. Well done lads
  12. If you are interested in speedway from the beginning 1928/29 then browsing this website is essential http://www.defunctspeedway.co.uk Have a look and help me improve the website if you have photos, memories etc
  13. I "note the notion" that Mr Kus is a loner who picks fights. He's a bit of a Clint Eastwood then eh? Nah I doubt he is that bad but it seems Redcar will be happy to sell him to us at an inflated price. If he was that bad he should be a bargain basement item to get rid! I doubt he is that bad. If we sign him and he proves difficult Super Swede and Team Captain "Lightning Bolt" will have to calm him down and help him fit in at Brough. Are we really being forced to wait until March to hear whether a fee can be agreed! The people involved in making this decision must be Incredibly busy for it to take this long
  14. Hi Ruff, I know what you mean Our first home match is now only what? 9 weeks away? Will Matej turn out for us on that date? If he does I hope he notches a max to make all this worthwhile! Now that I have got used to him possibly being a Newcastle Asset I am happy that he is the best available and I wish him well. Redcar fans do not appear to like him much but we are a different kettle of fish maybe he will be happier with us!!
  15. Hi All just answered my own question. The small white border racejacket was used in the 1970s. Sorry if I wasted your time. I must put more water in my whisky
  16. I have just added a piece to the Newcastle Speedway History Website regarding race jackets in use in the 1960s. If you are old enough to remember the 60s you will want to have a look at this http://www.newcastlespeedwayhistory.co.uk/1960s.htm The added piece is at the top of the 1960s part 1 webpage. I thought our 1960s teams used 2 race jackets. no border up to 1964 and a broad white border for the later 60s. I now have a picture of a possible third racejacket with a small white border. If you can supply me with any info re the small white border jackets I would be grateful.. Er my wife says I should stop playing with my websites and get out more!
  17. Oo-er I wish I could withdraw my comments about the transfer fee. . I am truly amazed at how much is needed for a transfer, if its many thousands for a 7point rider! Speedway should be able to rely on promoters co-operating for the common good of the sport. So please forgive me for my trivialisation of the situation and lets wait for the appeal tribunal
  18. I don't really know what the nitty gritty of the Kus transfer is but I suspect it is financial with us offering X pounds and Havelock wanting X plus more! Just how much is the balance?? I do not know and It is no-ones business apart from the two promotions what the figures are. I suspect it will not be thousands of pounds so are we in stalemate for the sake of of few hundred quid? I have already said I don't particulary want Matej Kus as I think he will frustrate us at times but if he is now the best available, a 7 plus rider then we need to get him signed and give Havvy his pound of flesh unless we are so skint we can't pay more. I would love to know how much/what the financial stumbling block is. Speaking of Brian Havelock do you remember him and Graeme Stapleton coming to blows at Brough! I blamed hot headed Stape at the time for the punch up but maybe Havvy asked for it and hasn't improved his attitude since
  19. I just don't want Kus so come on George if you have a plan B do it now
  20. I hear that our last rider will be Mr A.N. Other He is a Czech rider going under the name Další
  21. God knows what is in a donner kebab. I only get one when I have drank "sufficient" to not care about it. You will know that I do some websites? Well I hear from lots of people around the globe who have spent time on me websites. If you are old enough to remember the diamonds in 1978 you may be interested to know that Kevin McDonald and I are presently swapping emails. Kev lives in Oz but comes from Papua New Guinea which is an island to the north of Australia. He was surely the only PNG rider ever! So if anyone is interested, I am building a piece about Kevin McDonlad on the Newcastle Speedway History website http://www.newcastlespeedwayhistory.co.uk/1970s%20part%20three.htm I hope Kev will send me stuff to add to the history website
  22. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ Snore ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ Still waiting for rider number 7 to be confirmed. Well? we have until March don't we!!!
  23. Yeah on my travels. I have often came away from a track thinking I wouldn't want to watch speedway there every week. I have been a regular at Brough since 1961 and the track is so much better now. Yes it is still tight, as it has to fit inside the dog track but the surface is pretty good, if not excellent. There is more than one line on both bends, the inside on turn 4 creates many close finishes as does the outside at turn 4. Who could not enjoy watching the first lap on turn two every week! We watch good visiting riders utilising the whole track and yes sometimes our riders get beaten due to the fairness of the track. I would say to the people who slag Brough off come every week and witness great racing, you won't be disappointed. Ivan Mauger, Ole Olsen, Anders Michanek and Nicki Pedersen all rode for the diamonds and they all went on to win world finals. The track is a bit different but it isn't hard to ride, dangerous or rough. If you think it is then I wonder how much you really know about speedway. I am well pleased Brough finished 3rd. Merry Christmas everybody
  24. Well yabuggerman! why not tell us George? If you are holding back the news to announce at the xmas party, I would say 3 quarters of them attending the party will already know who is the last signing is. The function attendees are typically the staff and a few others (hopefully quite a few others ) Please try and entice "New" support via the internet. the "Old" fans want you to, so why wait until the party to announce the last guy in? The fans who aren't coming to the party are many more than those coming afterall By the way my daughter and I have just received our season tickets roll on 2016
