  1. Less than 3 weeks to go now til our opener against the Bandits. Both clubs need decent attendances with travelling support going both ways up and down the A1 on that weekend. How will our lower order lads go early season? Lewis and Ash should be able to get amongst the points and I suspect Danny will want to prove why the promoters have stuck with him despite his struggles at this level. Connor is on a learning curve and hopefully with his family's speedway tradition he at least will be getting good advice and help. Captain Ludde, Steve & Robert are capable of increasing their match averages and we will be relying on them heavily whilst Lewis, Ash, Danny and Connor develop their talents. What I want to see is good gating from our 7 riders and failing that bursts of speed to overtake when they miss the gate. Ludde, Rob & Steve can do that and hopefully they can lend some advice to the other lads. So Newcastle Speedway has new landlords, lets hope they are happy with the tennants and help us when neccessary
  2. Yes Tsunami 2017 will be the key to the door for George, my adding up was a year out. Numbers are not my strong point which must be why I cannot get 6 numbers right on the Lotto 21 yrs is a long time for a promoter to be in charge of our team. Previous Successful promoters were Johnnie Hoskins (1940s), Mike Parker (1960s) and Ian Thomas (mid 1970s-1984). All 3 walked away from us, but not George. A round of applause for Mr English, he deserves it Errr is this good enough to get me free admission George!
  3. So season 2017 is fast approaching. This season will be, I think, George Englishes 20th unbroken season in charge of the Diamonds. It would be great to win some trophies to mark George's 20 yrs. The team: - Steve Worrall Robert Lambert Ludvig Lindgren Lewis Rose Ashley Morris Danny Philips Connor Coles how do you see the team lining up. Fitting Lewis and Ashley in the best places is the key but which lad is the best. The better of them should go in as number 4 with the other at number 2. We look to be weak at reserve. Danny Philips has struggled but with a shot of self belief he could do better than he did in 2016. Don't know anything about Connor Coles apart from his dad and grandad being riders themselves well they must know that Brough Park is a difficult track due to the tight turns so why did he sign? He must be confident he can learn the track. Connor should be told that Brough Park spawns world champions Ivan Mauger, Ole Olsen, Anders Michanek and Nicki Pedersen so dig deep Connor you could be our 5th world champ!! Now to my favourite, Ludvig Lindgren. Each time Ludde comes to the tapes I hope he gets away in front but when he misses the start he shows his skill at winding in the guy in front and passing him usually around the boards. Keep this up Ludde you are worth my money through the turnstiles on your own
  4. Just a few weeks now to season 2017. If you are interested in Newcastle's Speedways History then check out http://www.newcastlespeedwayhistory.co.uk and while away the next few weeks reading about the Diamonds from 1929 to last year. We have Robert Lambert and Steve Worrall for 2017 as our spearhead, they must be the envy of most of the teams in the championship but our title aspirations rest with Lewis Rose, Ashley Morris and reserves Danny and Connor. Good luck to Newcastles second strings, you will be responsible for winning most matches
  5. Rumour has it the championship fixtures will be announced tomorrow 24th January, hopefully the Newcastle website will show our fixtures soon after so we can make a few early arrangements to visit some away fixtures
  6. You may be looking for Speedway Websites that will hold your attention. Please check out the following: - http://www.defunctspeedway.co.uk http://www.newcastlespeedwayhistory.co.uk http://www.newcastlecyclespeedway.co.uk If you haven't checked the websites out yet, I can promise you they are big, varied and worth a browse and who knows you may be able to join the regular visitors, some of whom have emailed me with many many many images etc. Have a look and see if you can help with photos memories etc. or simply have a browse John aka Dantodan
  7. The rules have never applied to our Queen. She does not need to register her vehicles or insure them and she used a Land Rover on her property and if she had an accident I presume she would have escaped legal action because of who she is! I have signed but no longer care about EU regs and rules
  8. So I have paid for my season ticket and season 2017 is coming. I have been critical of George English once or twice (Promoters have got to have thick skins) but really I think George should get a medal. In 2017 he will have been our main promoter and team manager for twenty unbroken years which in my view makes him Newcastle Speedways most successful Promoter of all time. Johnnie Hoskins may have had more charisma but walked out on us in 1949. Mike Parker brought us a league title and signed Ivan Mauger and Ole Olsen. he then walked away from us in 1969 Ian Thomas brought us the Owen Bros in 1975 and lots of success but he pulled the plug and ran away in 1984 Well done George you have stuck to the task and have never looked like "walking away" Hip Hip Hooray. I hope the 2017 team bring you some silverware in your 20th season. You deserve it
  9. Hi D@Heart Please email re pics of Barghy for the website jskinner06@btinternet.com
  10. Winter is upon us You may want to browse the net If so check out these websites http://www.newcastlespeedwayhistory.co.uk http://www.defunctspeedway.co.uk http://www.newcastlecyclespeedway.co.uk You may have photos, programmes or memories etc that I can add to the websites. The first website is the fullest history of Newcastle Speedway. The second is mainly an A-Z of defunct tracks but has a lot more besides and the third website covers Cycle Speedway in the North East from 1940s to date So get ya dad or grandad to dig out his photos etc and send me scans to make the websites even better
  11. A week without a post on the Newcastle 2017 thread. The team is as follows: - Robert Lambert Lewis Rose Ludvig Lindgren Ashley Morris Steve Worrall Danny Philips Connor Coles Robert Lambert will surely rack up even more points for Newcastle that he did in 2016 Lewis Rose was really motoring before his injury 2016. He could come on by leaps and bounds in 2017 Ludvig Lindgren has thousands of fans because of his skill at coming from behind. I am a fan too so keep it up Ludde Ashley Morris Came in late 2016 and we are all pleased he has been signed for 2017. Ash and Lewis are the lads who could be the key to Newcastle winning things? Steve Worrall As good as Robert. These two will get vital points for Newcastle in heats 13 and 15 Danny Philips Danny has struggled but occasionally he trapped and rode great first two turns. Our promoters have stuck with the lad so perhaps experts like George etc can see a great improvement in Danno in 2017 Connor Coles Such an advantage to have your dad and grandpappy as ex riders. Lets hope Connor wants success badly
  12. Just to change the subject signings are to be announced Monday night at the talk in
  13. Danny Phillips ? Dan has struggled most weeks during 2016 but has looked good for a lap or two on odd occasions. I am old enough to remember Nigel Crabtree, was it the 70s or 80s? he struggled for a whole season too and moved on elsewhere. Nigel then went on to be a heatleader for other teams. I think we should stick with Danny if his low average fits with team building. Are Ludvig and Matej the only riders web have who are assetts?
  14. There is little else happening so I am starting a thread for the first leg of the Premier League Knock Out Cup of 2016. Glasgow are favourites for the KO Cup and are involved in the league play offs too. Newcastle are the underdogs going into the KO Cup final Newcastle Robert Lambert Victor Palovaara Matej Kus Ludvig Lindgren Steve Worrall Ashley Morris Danny Philips Glasgow Richie Worrall Nike Lunna Aaron Summers Rene Bach Richard Lawson Fernando Garcia Danny Ayres Mr and Mrs Worrall will be please to see their twins lining up as heatleaders in this cup final. Newcastle favourite Rene Bach along with Richie Worrall is likely to cause the Diamonds a few problems. As a supporter of Newcastle Diamonds I think we will win the cup tie by just a couple of points maybe by winning by 12 points at home and losing by 10 at Glasgow!
  15. Steve Worrall and Robert Lambert are in action tonight (wednesday) Steve with BV and Robert guesting for Lakeside. Take it easy lads we need you two tomorrow
  16. Newcastle at full strength must give the home team the wobbles so look out Sheffield + Ricky Wells the Toon are coming your way
  17. Both teams are looking to extend their seasons. The playoffs are over two legs and there are no TR's permitted. Newcastle held the home side to a draw last time they were in town, however, Sheffield are very good at home so I can see a narrow home win Sheffield Simon Stead ? Jason Garrity R/R Kyle Howarth Josh Bates Dimitri Berge Arthur Sissis Nathan Greaves Newcastle Steve Worrall Victor Palovaara Matej Kus Ludvig Lindgren Robert Lambert Ashley Morris Danny Phillips I believe Newcastle will be at full strength which is bad news for the Tigers. I think Simon Stead has joined Jason Garrity on the injured list so who will be their guest
  18. Not many matches left before the curtain falls on the 2016 season so come along for this one Newcastle Steve Worrall Victor Palovaara Matej Kus Ludvig Lindgren Robert Lambert Ashley Morris Danny Philips Scunthorpe Number 1 ? Michael Palm Toft Lewis Kerr Fritz Wallner Ryan Douglas Number 6 ? Number 7 ? Last time out the scorpions were using guests at number 1 and the reserve pairings. If you know who the changes are please post on this thread
  19. A good away win on Friday at Plymouth makes 3rd place in the league table our own. Turning now to our next home match which is not on Sunday due to the PLRC. We entertain Workington on Monday at 7.30 Newcastle Steve Worrall Victor Palovaara Matej Kus Ludvig Lindgren Robert Lambert Ashley Morris Danny Phillips Workington Ricky Wells Mason Campton Kenneth Hansen Rasmus Jensen Claus Vissing Adam Roynon Matt Williamson As usual, if you hear of any changes please let us know. Ruthless picked up a knock at Plymouth so he is a ? for the PLRC as well as Mondays home match against the Comets. I hope he will be ok for saturday at the PLRC
  20. Newcastle are a little weak at reserve (Sorry Ash & Danny) but at 1 to 5 we are going to be hard to live with at Plymouth. I can only see a Newcastle win but if 1 or 2 of our riders has an off night we may just manage a draw! Wish I had booked a hotel down in Plymouth and took a leisurely drive down south too watch this match. I think Roy Clarke would make a very good Team Manager
  21. Plymouth Jack Holder Stefan Nielsen Sam Simota Todd Kurtz Kyle Newman Steve Boxall Ellis Perks Newcastle Steve Worrall Victor Palovaara Matej Kus Ludvig Lindgren Robert Lambert Ashley Morris Danny Phillips
  22. Plymouth Jack Holder Steve Boxall Stefan Nielsen Todd Kurtz Kyle Newman Sam Simota Ellis Perks Newcastle Steve Worrall Victor Palovaara Matej Kus Ludvig Lindgren Robert Lambert Ashley Morris Danny Phillips I am posting up the teams so please advise on any changes to the line ups. Newcastle are riding high after beating Somerset on Sunday.
  23. Hi Dandelion I mention the Hopwood situation because if he had been ruled out it would have meant Somerset running with just one reserve and possibly having to complete at least one heat with only one rider which coulda been crucial if the scores were closer. I don't know if I am correct re the Hopwood situation but our stand in team manager could have considered this and decided to allow Somerset the facility as Hopwood was unlikely to affect the outcome of the match result. What the referee thought is anyone's guess, maybe he had not even thought about this possible abuse of the 8 day rule? I agree that this was a great meeting. After heat one I thought, oh no! here we go again. But the lads just did what they have been doing all season and romped away with it after a few 4-2s and 5-1s they settled down and rode out the match in fine style. Somerset should be worrying now about meeting the diamonds home and away. If I was a gambler I know who my money would be on.
  24. Firstly what a cracking nights racing with the Northern Powerhouse proving too strong for a lack lustre Southern side. Forget the score and remember the on track action: plenty passing which is what I pay to see and incidents too (see below). I went home happy 1. Ben Hopwood Although he didn't affect the outcome of the match We wondered if his presence was legitimate as he was at Brough the week before guesting for Edinburgh. Now can someone who knows the rules please advise if he was eligible to appear as a guest for Somerset when just 7 days before he guested for the Monarchs at Brough! 2. Josh Grajczonek In Heat 8 Josh was not programmed as he was Somersets No1. He came in as rider replacement and was nominated for a TR. He won the race as expected and the Rebels scored an 8-1 now what we thought was he might not have been eligible for a TR. The situation was similar to heat 8 of our home match against Peterborough when Ashley Morris came in as a reserve replacement for Emil Grondal and was handed the black n white job as a TR. George English objected and Peterborough were told Morris couldn't be a TR as he wasn't programmed in heat 8. The ruling out of Reserve Morris TR in the Peterborough match and leaving No 1 rider Grajczonek in, in the Somerset match as a TR doesn't make sense so that's your homework for the next week was Grajczonek in heat 8 and Hopwood in the team as a guest correct! I don't know the answers
  25. The sun is out, the ground is drying up! Well 15 miles away from the track it is! The track staff will still working but on a much dryer surface now and all will be fine by 6.30 pm. Let us give new boy Ashley Morris a big welcome and beat the Rebels.
