No Problem Tsunami... Remember Peter with his socks turned over the top of his boots and a billowing white silk scarf. The guy was always well turned out and had a great cornering style. Have you looked at the photos yet? My favourites are the 6 shots of him as a novice falling off and the one of him climbing the starting gate with Mike Parkers tie in his hand. God knows what was going on there New Zealand is special to us in Newcastle and I am sure Peter had plenty ex diamonds over in Kiwiland to talk to

Yes Dave still lives locally but down Teeside way. He had a tragedy in his family when his son was badly injured trials riding and is now in a wheelchair. The History Site relies on the memories and pictures etc that fans and riders have collected. If you want to contribute just send me an email jskinner06@btinternet.com

Hi Tom, I have a couple of photos of Canadian pre war rider George Pepper on my website. He rode for Newcastle 1938 and 39

=================================================== Another picture where I need your help in putting names to the riders. The pictures are not of Newcastle Riders

Yes slipped up there! Gordon will be 98 in 2009 so I dont think he will be winning any races in 2009. He did win the very first race at Brough Park in a time of around 97 seconds. Not many tracks who operated pre war, can say they have the guy who won their first ever races still around
-
I agree with you Norbold. "Our" rider Gordon Byers is second to Jack Ormston. Gordon won the first ever race at Brough Park way back on 17th May 2009

My friend Ian Huntly has supplied a picture of his Dads bike rebuilt in the 1950's Ian says: - In the late 50's, Dad bought a big box full of motorcycle parts which proved to be a Douglas Speedway bike !! Some parts were damaged or missing so I remember Dad fabricating new bits in his garage. He gave the bike a very special gear box and some special-metal pushrods. He sat down and built this race bike which ended up being entered at Druridge Bay Sand Track, ridden on the sand by a rider Dad picked for the "job". It was a heavy bike with straight through exhaust but it bump started immediately. It sounded glorious. Dad sold it to the local grass track sidecar champion who added a sidecar and did well with it for a couple of years. I wish I knew where it is now !! Can you help please ?? email JOHN I have put the picture on my first bikes page on www.newcastlespeedwayhistory.co.uk have a look and see if you can help us locate an amazing old bike
