  3. Ok Cyril it is not! Thanks for taking the time to help.
  4. There is a picture of little Johnny on the Norwich page of www.defunctspeedway.co.uk If Johnny was the littlest ever rider it would have been interesting to see him beside Newcastles 1929 rider Harry Huntly whom at 6ft 8ins was the tallest ever
  5. If you visit www.newcastlespeedwayhistory.co.uk and check out the "Name The Rider" page you will find a rider wearing the Newcastle racejacket. We are trying to determine exactly who he is. He is a dead ringer for Cyril Maidment and it may actually be him if he was guesting for the Diamonds. So Can you Help?
  6. I am looking for photos and info on sand racing in the north east. Can you help? email jskinner06@btinternet.com
  7. I have a photo of Reg West on the "Name The Rider" page of www.defunctspeedway.co.uk His daughter in law has been in touch with the website asking for help in obtaining any details of Reg's career --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Would someone be able to help us find out anything more on Reginald Aldgate West. He was born in Tasmania but the family moved from there to Melbourne. He travelled all over Australia racing he was also known to have done some wrestling in his time. I have a Photo of him having won a race on his motorbike wearing his winners sash. He was my father-in-law. We know very little of his racing career. He travelled over to the UK with the Australian team to race at the Isle of Man/Wight in the early 1930's. We believe he raced all over the UK. He never went back to Australia. Seems he stopped racing at the start of the war. Could have been from serious injury? Any info would be great. Thanks ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So does anyone know anything about the wrestling speedway rider? email jskinner06@btinternet.com
  8. Check out www.newcastlespeedwayhistory.co.uk There are Hundreds of photos of Newcastle and Sunderland. The site could be the biggest speedway site on the internet. So if not the best clubsite at least we are hoping to be the largest. We ae looking for more items so have a look and get in touch if you have items you think should be on there. Newcastle had 4 world champions Ivan Mauger, Ole Olsen, Anders Michanek and Nicki Pedersen Perhaps you have pictures of these four riders winning the world crown? I will use them if you want to email jskinner06@btinternet.com
  9. The old helmet had an inscription of K D Curtis which set me off on a wild goose chase looking for a KD Curtis, obviously K D was "Kid" with a very faint i. So with help here on the forum I have decided that the Helmet inscription spelt K-I-D and that it's owners name was Frederick George Curtis born London 1920. Thank you for your help and have a look at the webpage History Site Pre War
  10. Yes please Bill email address jskinner06@btinternet.com Also interested in Norman Hargreaves or in fact any ex newcastle riders not covered much by the Newcastle History Site How did we get from Kid KD Curtis to Fred Curtis I wonder? He is obviously the same man
  11. Thanks speedyguy. Heres a link to one of my sites pre war pages Newcastle Pre War I have photographed Kid Curtis's crash helmet, not that my camera could do this 70 year old helmet justice
  12. Kid Curtis was part of Newcastle's pre war team and I think again after the war. I have a photograph and an old helmet with his name on it and I would like to put together 2 or 3 paras on the Newcastle History Site. Does anyone know much about Kid email me jskinner06@btinternet.com
  13. Please visit www.defunctspeedway.co.uk then visit the Yarmouth page. I have added another 6 pictures of the track If you remember speedway at Yarmouth you will love the defunct speedway website

I have used the programme to start a Castleford page on the website Visit the Website If you have any Castleford stuff please get in touch by email jskinner06@btinternet.com
  15. I remember Martin as a visiting rider at Brough Park, heading home the Owens and lowering our track record. Problem was geography we never got to see Martin apart from league matches. Can anyone supply a bit of info about him.

  19. Just recently started a webpage for this defunct for speedway, Glasgow base. Can you help me add to the collection of photos programmes etc If you have any items and want to scan them email me jskinner06@btinternet.com
  20. We have just added a history of Yarmouth Bloaters to the Defunct Tracks website and very good reading it is too. Now looking for scans of photos, scans of programme covers or scans of badges for the Bloaters. Hit the site
  21. In my opinion Joe Owen was as good around Brough Park as anyone and that includes Newcastle’s greatest ever rider Ivan Mauger. Ivan was far better on other tracks and obviously his achievements speak for themselves. Both Ivan and Joe won their Brough heats by similar distances and with such ease when they needed to overtake. Others in this little game are Anders Michanek, Ole Olsen, Nicki Pedersen and Kenneth Bjerre. Joe would have been beaten by these at times but I think he would have headed them home too. We can only wonder how Joe would have done against world class riders had we been seeing them week after week at Brough. He certainly knew how to ride Brough Park
  22. Ah yes Joe rode for Hull for 2 or 3 seasons I think? Did Tom turn out for Newport?
  23. As a Newcastle fan I suppose I should know lots about the Owens but my memory is rubbish. I remember that they came to us from Barrow and Joe also road for Ellesmere Port but it is all a bit hazy. Did Tom ride for Stoke at some stage. Can anyone supply a bit of history of the brothers
  24. The is a picture or two of George on the Newcastle History Site 1960's page 1 Newcastle History Site
  25. At the moment we haven't anything on Milton Keynes on the Defunct Tracks website. Please email jskinner06@btinternet.com if you have photos programmes or badges
