  1. Looking at my old photos I notice that most riders had the club logo on the back of the racejacket, numbers appeared much later on. Does anyone know when the number became the norm on the back
  2. Hi All, Just to let you know, I have been adding a few more photo's to the West Ham page of www.defunctspeedway.co.uk John
  3. I believe the crowd that day was around the 12000 mark. The guys made other visits and enjoyed speedway. What would they say to modern day rules etc? "Another Fine Mess" presumably.
  4. I have been busy with the Bristol (Knowle Stadium) page of the defunct teams website. One of the photos recently put on shows Laurel and Hardy at the track.
  5. Jesper Olsen. His career was dogged by dislocated shoulders. I remember him leading a race at Hull and he tumbled off the bike. His shoulder had dislocated just turning the previous bend. He was a great rider and with a bit of luck he would have achieved more.
  6. Just extended the old bikes section of www.newcastlespeedwayhistory.co.uk to 4 pages. There are lots of pictures of 1928/29 bikes. Douglas, Rudge, AJS, Norton etc as well as the main machine the JAP for 30 years or so.
  7. We now have many many photos on the Rayleigh page of www.defunctspeedway.co.uk courtesy of ex rocket Terry Stone

  9. Ok Cyril it is not! Thanks for taking the time to help.
  10. There is a picture of little Johnny on the Norwich page of www.defunctspeedway.co.uk If Johnny was the littlest ever rider it would have been interesting to see him beside Newcastles 1929 rider Harry Huntly whom at 6ft 8ins was the tallest ever
  11. If you visit www.newcastlespeedwayhistory.co.uk and check out the "Name The Rider" page you will find a rider wearing the Newcastle racejacket. We are trying to determine exactly who he is. He is a dead ringer for Cyril Maidment and it may actually be him if he was guesting for the Diamonds. So Can you Help?
  12. I am looking for photos and info on sand racing in the north east. Can you help? email jskinner06@btinternet.com
  13. I have a photo of Reg West on the "Name The Rider" page of www.defunctspeedway.co.uk His daughter in law has been in touch with the website asking for help in obtaining any details of Reg's career --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Would someone be able to help us find out anything more on Reginald Aldgate West. He was born in Tasmania but the family moved from there to Melbourne. He travelled all over Australia racing he was also known to have done some wrestling in his time. I have a Photo of him having won a race on his motorbike wearing his winners sash. He was my father-in-law. We know very little of his racing career. He travelled over to the UK with the Australian team to race at the Isle of Man/Wight in the early 1930's. We believe he raced all over the UK. He never went back to Australia. Seems he stopped racing at the start of the war. Could have been from serious injury? Any info would be great. Thanks ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So does anyone know anything about the wrestling speedway rider? email jskinner06@btinternet.com
  14. Check out www.newcastlespeedwayhistory.co.uk There are Hundreds of photos of Newcastle and Sunderland. The site could be the biggest speedway site on the internet. So if not the best clubsite at least we are hoping to be the largest. We ae looking for more items so have a look and get in touch if you have items you think should be on there. Newcastle had 4 world champions Ivan Mauger, Ole Olsen, Anders Michanek and Nicki Pedersen Perhaps you have pictures of these four riders winning the world crown? I will use them if you want to email jskinner06@btinternet.com
  15. The old helmet had an inscription of K D Curtis which set me off on a wild goose chase looking for a KD Curtis, obviously K D was "Kid" with a very faint i. So with help here on the forum I have decided that the Helmet inscription spelt K-I-D and that it's owners name was Frederick George Curtis born London 1920. Thank you for your help and have a look at the webpage History Site Pre War
