Sheffield V Newcastle Pl Thursday 6th Sep 2012
dantodan replied to dantodan's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
The match day has dawned and the riders will be setting off in their vans shortly, from all points of the compass. So hows the weather in South Yorkshire? Are we gonna have a dry night (except those in the bar, mines a pint of Guiness thank you!) I think Newcastle are capable of shocking the Tigers and as usual I say Newcastle 50 and the home team 40. Give us the points you stripey so and sos -
Berwick V Newcastle Pl Saturday 8th September 2012
dantodan replied to dantodan's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Ah well it seems I am gonna watch a series of "who gates wins heats". Now! the Diamonds, with the exception of Robbo, are good gaters, so our riders might like the track even if, I as a supporter will not. I only come to Berwick about twice a season. I am a fan of Berwicks 4th bend. I remember way back 1998 (I Think) Nicki Pedersen clattering the 4th bend boards and bouncing off to win. Lee Complin was another who has entertained me by attacking that corner. It will be a shame if the track isn't prepared for good racing. If Berwick and other tracks struggle to retain support maybe it is worth risking home defeats by producing a track for good racing. Stay away fans might like to spend their money knowing that they will see good racing. As always I say I hope Newcastle entertain and yes we will come away with a 50-40 win. What? snore me dreaming again!!! -

Hey Abbott I take it the 8 day rule does not apply to Paul as he is a NL rider -

Although I expect the Diamonds to win as always. I am impressed by the bandits on their own track. All of them belt around what is the fastest track in the league. The circuit allows overtaking on the inside and outside of turn two and passing going into turn three. There is a slingshot outside move from the banking on turn four too which if it was a Newcastle rider doing it it would get a standing ovation from me. I hope Lemo and Robbo go well, we need their points. If so we may just have enough in the other riders to come back down the A1 happy. I hope the financial gamble taken by Berwicks management pays off -
Ok Bandits Newcastles record at Shielfield Park has not been great over the years. If the track has grip Newcastle will do well. Lay a fair track and we will entertain. I am coming up so there is another 10 quid in the bank account. Great move by your promoters to reduce admission I hope it pays off for them Forecast? Well as usual Newcastle to win 50-40 but a point will do, I am not a greedy person

Sheffield and Newcastle earned reputations years ago as trick tracks. All that means is a rider needs to learn the best way to ride them. Newcastles home track advantage has gradually vanished over the years. The Brough Park circuit has been changed a number of times since we earned that reputation although our long fast straights and tighter than average turns are still there. Sheffield does not appear to have changed much. The Sheffield supporters are treated to fast racing with very fast turns. Better than average riders can ride both tracks well. Newcastle are coming to Sheffield after a good season where we have picked up a point at least on our travels. I wish I could be there tomorrow but it is a bit too far for me. Yorkshire is a big county and it takes forever to get to Sheffield from Tyneside. Look out Tigers the Diamonds are a strong side despite losing the Worrall twins and we may have a secret weapon at reserve in fast starting Claes Nedermark. Whatever happens I hope Newcastle are entertaining -

Yeah Tsunami. The main thing the Tigers have got going for them in this match is their fast track which doesn't suit quite a few riders. I really think we can win it or at very least we can pick up the odd point. I hope Mark has a good one the team needs a top score from him or Stuart. Ludvig may be our trump card as I dunno how he goes at this track but he shows his quality elsewhere all the time. There must be a NL guest that has ridden well at Sheffield, if there is one lets hope we have him in the team I will stick my neck out and forecast a good win for the Diamonds and if we get 50 remember where you saw the forecast. If we get beat I will be back forecasting trouble for the Bandits on Saturday -
very interesting! This may make us a bit stronger as using guests for Richie was fine if a good guest was available but not so good when we had to go with a weaker rider. I hope Ned takes dropping down in his stride and doesn't take it badly. If he rides well he should get at least 5 or 6 rides per match. Go on mate fill yer boots If Richie is still a month away that means we will not see him ride again this year. What about Steve?

Yeah! he is very interesting to watch. He gets in front and seems to go to sleep. Claes needs to develope an outside line, as a fast rider will always be able to pass him on the outside. He is a very good gater but not good at coming from the back. But we need him in the side come Monday -

Thanks Abbot, We need all 3 riders to be fit if we are to hold onto our home record. Christian at home is real asset and he is becoming my favourite this year. Robbo too we cannot do without. Claes can score 3 2 1 or 0 in each ride but we need him for this match if we are to send the Monarchs away with nothing. Now is the time to start asking who we will have as Guests so Abbot have you given any thought to that? -

Thanks Ekimba I started the Defunct site with an A-Z of defunct sites and it has grown since then with quite a lot of interest from famous names. Reg Fearman, Ivan Mauger, Lee Dunton (Danny's son) and lots of other ex riders and promoters. It is now probably the biggest speedway website on the net and is getting bigger by the day. Check out the Name The Rider pages and see if you can help me out with the names of the Unknown Riders etc. Good game, good game as Brucie used to say. I remember my first visits to Old Meadowbank in the late 1960s. It rained everytime and I remember sitting on a train back to Newcastle soaking wet and putting my socks on the trains heater. I steamed all the way home but reached Newcastle Central Station bone dry again.. Ha ha happy days Never got to Powderhall after getting saddled with a mortgage etc. I still have a fondness for Edinburgh and have visited Armadale many times standing on that grassy knoll. Er not guilty I didn't fire a shot As the housing get ever nearer to your track you know Armadales days are numbered. Good luck with speedway in Edinburgh, The sport needs speedway in Scotlands capitol I have just noticed that Somerset have sneaked ahead of us in the PL table by 2 points but have ridden 3 matchs more than us So look out Edinburgh we need 3 points on Monday to get back on top of the league I need to know about the diamonds injuries before I make a (famous Dantodan prediction) but I am inclined to say we will do it over the Monarchs by 10 points -

So no team action for us over last few days. Christian, Robbo and Claes seem to have picked up some injuries. Can anyone say how they are getting on? At this moment in time with nothing going on I wonder if you have had a look at my websites www.newcastlespeedwayhistory.co.uk , www.defunctspeedway.co.uk and the site I do with my mate Jacko Diamonds www.newcastlecyclespeedway.co.uk If you haven't visited the sites before then now might be a good time to spend a few hours until Newcastles next match comes along on Monday. My Newcastle History site and my Defunct Tracks site are colossal as far as speedway websites go. The Cycle Speedway site is also quite large and if you were a cycle rider or have photographs of the pedal variety we want to hear from you. While away the hours on them and feel free to email me via the websites if you are interested or have some photos or other items that I can use. -

Ah me now understand doh! I will tell mrs Dantodan, she likes that sort of thing but hates speedway. Much obliged to have this mystery solved. Back to speedway, how bad were the knocks Claes and Christian took? Expect them to be back on Monday then? Annoying for me to have to wait another week for the 5 diamonds plus 2 mates to silence the Monarchs fans with an easy win at home to them -

Hi Chewbacca Can you tell us fans who maybe don't read about such things as the Groupon idea what it is an how it works. I apologise if I am the only one who doesn't know about them -
I agree with you Abbott but the rearranged fixture in 8 days may see better riders at reserve for us and a stronger Monarchs side. I hope better riders will be more entertaining. which is what I pay my season ticket money for. Anyway, the 5 diamonds and a couple of friends will be more than a match for the Monarchs. I'm not worried about the restaging but will hope for good guests to watch as we blow away this challenge

The Newcastle v Edinburgh match planned for Sunday 19/08/2012 fell victim of the British summertime weather and was called off before a wheel was turned. So we all went home early and painted our spare rooms etc. The tie now takes place on Bank Holiday Monday so I hope you have re.membered to keep the rain off tickets . The extra 8 days will give the riders who have been knocked about time to recover. So? I know it's a bit early but who can we get as guests for the twins?
-
Nowt wrong with sounding like Dantodan. Just one mistake in your post you should have said you think you will lose by 10 points or 20 more like. I think Edinburgh can beat most other teams but you cannot beat the Diamonds around our fantastic racetrack. Monarchs fans coming to Brough will not believe the view they get of the action at Brough, Armadale is spoilt by the restricted viewing I would hate to be going there more than a couple of times a season So come on Monarchs you will be trounced by our 5 riders (wish we still had the Worralls at reserve)
-
This match starts at our usual time 6.30. Last time I did a forecast against Edinburgh I was left with egg on my face. This time I will say I expect the Diamonds to win (because I am an optimist) but 45 points will be a struggle. A lot will depend upon the guest for Richie if we can bring in a good one then that will help our cause. What a shame both Worralls are injured. The side is really missing the lads. I hope to see a classic match with lots of passing hopefully the diamonds doing it. The Monarchs are a good side and I am sure they will entertain us. We need our 5 riders to do the biz as we cannot really rely upon a couple of guests to do that much. Rockin Robin was great against Redcar but he will not be allowed for this match. Does anyone know which guests we will have this week?
