  1. Great news for Mr and Mrs King and family so the baby is JK junior yes!. I really hope Jay will be taking the vacant reserve position. If he is truly fit I am sure he will make a successful comeback we can remember him making good/half decent gates and when behind off the gate he could have a blast around bend two and when he got in front he was hard to catch. As he is our most local rider I hope he gets the nod and comes back strong. If he is not fit then the good of the team suggests we sign a decent reserve, Paul Starke would fit the bill but whilst we await Jasons practise laps Paul might go elswhere Just realised its new years eve!!! Happy New Year to all connected with Newcastle and Speedway in general Meanwhile why not visit my websites: - www.newcastlespeedwayhistory.co.uk www.defunctspeedway.co.uk www.newcastlecyclespeedway.co.uk
  2. When is/was the xmas party? The last rider may be mentioned then? I am happy with Christian but I would have been just as happy if his place had gone to Claes. The way Ned finished the season he was easily the most improved rider in our side so maybe he would have scored more than Christian next year, having said that I am really happy with the 6 riders and would love to have Jason back at reserve. If it doesn't work out for Jason then we can hopefully bring someone in, Paul Starke springs to mind
  3. # I have done but thank you for the help If anyone wants to visit my history site visit this www.newcastlespeedwayhistory.co.uk I have to say the site is unofficial ha! like most of the best websites. The site is massive so bookmark it to return to later
  4. This reminds me of when I was playing badminton at Gateshead Leisure centre, on the adjacent court was Gatesheads basketball team. I finished my badminton sweating like a pig in a butchers, so I headed for a shower. I was joined by a dozen 6'6" black basketball players all towering over me and yes it is true!! :-) I got outa there pretty damb quick feeling a bit inadequate if you know what I mean. Can anyone who uses twitter go on there and see what you can find out about Mr Tully so I can start a section on the website, you can email me via the website or send me a PM on here. Never before has information been so readily available but errr! not to me as I cannot tweet (can do bird imitations though!)
  5. Hi Abbott I don't go on Facebook or Twitter, maybe I will get up to date and do this but at the moment I don't use them. Bear me in mind when you get to speak to him. We have the biggest and the best club history website www.newcastlespeedwayhistory.co.uk In the meantime I will sit myself down and learn the ropes with twitter
  6. Hi Abbot I would like to do a piece on Andrew on my www.newcastlespeedwayhistory.co.uk website so please remember this if you get a chance to interview him. Are you happy with our 6 signings for 2013. Now that I have had a chance to think about it I am pleased and quietly confident that we can expect another season like 2012
  7. The IOM is part of Great Britain so Andrew is British but maybe not actually English. BBCs teletext (on the red button now we are digital) lumps together the news from the North East with Cumbria and the Isle of Man. I wonder if Tully is the only Manxman to ride speedway, most manxmen if they want to ride bikes will ride road racing machines to take part in the islands TT racing It will be interesting to hear if Andrew considers himself to be English or British so Abbot if you get a chance to ask him when you are doing a video/DVD please let me know. Re my Defunct Website I am not aware of any speedway on the island ask Andrew if there has been any dirtrack racing on the IOM please
  8. Er well as far as I know he is from the Isle of Man and I thought that made him English so what is he cleverclogs! Is he a Manxman? I don't care anyway as he won't be flying back and forth from Scandanavia like so many of our riders have done
  9. My crystal ball tells me it could be Steve Worrals year to impress he can gate and he rode some excellent blasts around the second bend, a sign of self confidence. I became a fan of his last year OK Richie was better but look out for the other twin in 2013. Ludvig was great at Brough in 2012, he can pass outside and inside. Just do it on other tracks Ludvig and we will be happy Stuart Robson - English/ Mackem Richie Worral - English Andrew Tully - English/IOM Christian Henry - Australian Ludvig Lindgren - Swedish Steve Worral - English Poss. Jason King - English Must be a few years ago that we had so many English lads in our side. I am happy with overseas riders but it is good to have mainly English riders for a change. It should be cheaper for the promoters in 2013 as only Mr Lindgren will be commuting Well its almost december so season 2013 is only 3.5 months till tapes up. George English has been in charge for 17 years which is the longest unbroken spell in Newcastles history. keep going George with Darryl and the others you are well appreciated
  10. I am happy with the team, but I would have kept Claes and let Christian go as Claes has more potential that Christian. But either rider will do for me, so I am happy with that situation Andrew Tully is a rider to join the team with our hopes that he will up his average. He needs to start the season with some double figure scores otherwise we will all be rumbling on with "Should have kept Lemo" I have seen Andrew have pretty good rides at Brough. His problem is inconsistancy. We need to be able to count on him to score well in the difficult heats. Mark if he was back in 2013 would average around 7.5 points so that has to be Tullys goal to average 7.5 points a match and hopefully a wee bit more. Richie and Steve. I pray that their injuries will not hinder them and have not knocked their confidence. The twins hold the key to us having another great season. Stuart in 2012 was at times a bit hit n miss but what a crowd pleaser when he gets the bit between his teeth. I am really pleased he is back with us Would I have wanted an out and out 9 point leader? Yes but as George and Darryl proved in 2012 you can top the table with a team without a proper No1 rider. I am happy with the team so far and if no7 is Jason King we will have a good second reserve. We need to average better than 3-3 in heat two and Steve and Jason should be able to do that injuries apart
  11. I have heard of a change to Bonus Points which is in the speedway star. That in a 3-3 the rider finishing 3rd behind his team mate will no longer get paid a bonus point. Has anyone else heard this? Will it be the rule for 2013? The idea is to save promoters money by not paying that bonus point. This will discourage riders from team riding as they battle to pass their team mate to earn 2nd place money Not a good rule is it! How many times have we stood there saying a 3-3 is enough to win a match and a third place rider being delighted he finished 3rd and helped us win a match. Now he will want to overtake his colleague to earn a few more quid
  12. I agree, Ludvig can only get better during 2013 he is a crowd pleaser and can overtake inside or outside, some of his rides at Brough during 2012 were brilliant, he just needs to ride that way on his travels. Christian Henry: It pains me to say this after some great meetings by the Aussie but he is unlikely to improve whereas Ludvig and Claes can and will be better in 2013. So if we have to sacrifice anyone maybe it has to be Christian thrown to the Lions. Like I said it pains me to say this I like the rest of us, like speculating on next years team but maybe signings will be announced leading up to the xmas party or at the latest during the party. If the whole team haven't been announced by then we will start losing options as other teams snap up the quality and announce their starting 7s. I don't want a team without an out and out number 1 rider but have to admit we did fine without one in 2012
  13. I always respect what you say Tsunami but Matty isn't on my list (er? alright I haven't got a list!) we have, if they are all willing to sign up again, a team of reliable second strings, what we need is a top scorer to lead us in 2013. Maybe we should let someone go to allow a bigger name to come in. It is possible however, that we could start the season without a proper number 1 and find our own number 1 from within. Maybe Richie, Ludvig or Claes will make the step up but that in my opinion would be a risk we cannot take. My support would go to the promoters if they decide to drop someone in favour of a name
  14. Did Scunthorpe try to bring the Worral twins back or were they commited to Newcastle. Scunthorpe have a really solid side for 2013 so maybe Richie and Steve didn't figure in the plans
  15. great news and Workington v Newcastle over two legs in March has also been mentioned. My worries have been replaced by ecstacy! I would be amazed if any of our 2012 riders will want to be away. I expect the Worrals, Robbo, Claes, Christian and Ludvig to sign up shortly. I really don't know about Lemo. In odd races he was brilliant but maybe his last race has already been run and he will go full time as Aussie Team manager. if we need a 3 pointer Paul Starke fits the bill he did nothing wrong for us in 2012 My prediction for 2013 if we have the Worrals is that Steve will impress
  16. I had fears and still have that we may not be continuing in 2013. Looking at the feedback from BSPA AGM Newcastle are on the list of PL teams for next year. I hope nothing goes wrong with that. Our promoters may have lost money in 2012 despite our table topping side and you have to wonder how they want to keep going after making a loss but George is foremost a Newcastle Diamonds fan as well as our promoter and team manager and Darryl has lost money over the years he has been the owner. Both guys deserve much praise for keeping us going. George has been involved in our longest ever unbroken run, since 1997 thats 17 years a record for Newcastle Speedway. It will be great to hear from them with signings etc and we can all help by persuading people we know to come along and support the team from the off in March 2013 I note Scunthorpe named their 7 riders last night and they didn't include the twins so hopefully the Worrals will be back in 2013
  17. Crowd levels this year have in my opinion looked ok but are they enough to make the promoters want to keep going? We have great promoters. They live locally and are Newcastle Diamonds fans, George goes way back as a supporter and Darryl is also highly commited he had major problems with his business a while ago and many promoters in his position would have chucked the towel in speedway-wise to concentrate totally on rebuilding their businesses. I hope they give us a sign that they will continue next year maybe by announcing a sponsor or a rider or two
  18. Ah Abbott, yes agreed so on a rolling average he would start at reserve and would be expected to progress into the top five as quickly as the greensheets allow, if his injury doesn't set him back. What a shame if he goes elsewhere
  19. At this stage it is too difficult to come up with 7 riders for next year, maybe forecasting that is easier than picking 6 numbers for the lottery but it is still too hard. Listing riders you would like is great fun so lets continue that until signings are made. Personally I would like to hear from the management that we are definitely running next year first up? So many teams this year have had rumblings of closing, lets hope they survive I would want most of our team back Claes Nedermark Ludvig Lindgren Christian Henry These 3 did nothing wrong and I would want them to be the basis of 2013 team. Great second strings and at times each one became a 3rd heat leader. No point in bringing in a similar average rider if we have them again. What we need is to boost top end strength. Robbo gets my nod as 2nd heatleader but alas I don't want Lemo back. We need a rider that can win heats 13 and 15 most of the time. So we need a proven new number 1 rider. Cannot suggest who at the moment maybe later in the winter we will know whose available. Of course Richie could be our number 1 but it is a gamble as he is not proven is he?. However, I would sacrifice any rider to have him in the team but I think he can choose any number of tracks to ride for, so its wait and see as far as Richie is concerned. I think Steve can do a Richie next year and we should offer him good money to stay with the diamonds. So my team for 2013 1. A proven Heatleader, or gamble on Richie Worral 2. Claes Nedermark 3. Stuart Robson 4. Christian Henry 5. Ludvig Lindgren 6. A 3pointer 7. Steve Worrall Wouldn't it be great to keep the twins? but if Scunthorpe hold their contracts then we will be under pressure to keep them
  20. No-one has suggested that we won't be running in 2013. If so we will extend our run of unbroken speedway to 17 years. That means promoter and team manager George English is the most succesful promoter we have ever had, he has outlasted all previous promoters. Good stuff George and now:- Who are the Riders for 2013?
