  1. Bet you bought Barry a pint and are still waiting for him to get you one back Sunderland 17 year old Gordon Byers won the first ever race at Brough Park on 17th May 1929. Unfortuately Brough closed down in 1930 so you and Barry were out of work until Speedway came back to Brough in 1938. Edinburgh started in 1928 at Marine Gardens, Seafield Rd., Portobello, Edinburgh so the Monarch beat us by a year! Can't be at this match cos family comes first. The match promises to be a cracker. I hope to see Cookie and the others later when they ride at Brough
  2. Tsunami devotes countless hours to training. I sincerely hope he sees one or two of his trainees make it via the National League and the Premier League to the top flight, but Tsunami, if you don't see a trainee go that far your value to speedway is still immense and you have done far more than your bit. Back to that match at Berwick I would have been there but it clashes with my family and I going on holiday. I think Newcastle's team of "second strings" will entertain and we may get closer than some home fans think we are capable of. Anyway I hope Berwick get a larger gate than normal due to lots of Diamonds fans heading up the A1
  3. So whats wrong with that diamond@heart. what do you suggest? A match just 5 days away, maybe we should wait how much longer? Starting the thread now gives us time to ponder over the line ups etc. Anyway I use a pencil so don't need to let my ink dry You could always wait until the day before the match to make your posts if you that bothered
  4. Speedway began at Brough in 1929 on this date 17th May 1929 86 yrs ago, check out the history website www.newcastlespeedwayhistory.co.uk Newcastle Speedway is fairly unique in speedway, we started in 1929 and have never had a change of track, not many tracks in the land can boast 86 yrs at the same location. Newcastle did have another track based at the cities Gosforth Park but they ran alongside Brough Park so cannot by confused with "The" Newcastle Speedway which has always been Brough Park Newcastle Lewis Kerr Anton Rosen R/R Steve Worrall Christian Henry Ludvig Lindgren Simon Nielsen Lewis Rose Edinburgh Sam Masters Erik Riss R/R Kevin Wolbert Justin Sedgmen Craig Cook Max Clegg Robert Branford Unfortunately I will miss this match as I will be in Croatia for a holiday with my family. I hope to come back and hear that this match was a cracker with the diamonds taking the points
  5. Not sure of Berwicks line up Berwick Ben Barker Hynek Stichaeur 3 ? Thomas Jorgensen Kevin Doolan 6.? Richard Hall Can a Bandits fan supply a 1-7 for the Bandits Newcastle Lewis Kerr Anton Rosen R/R Steve Worrall Christian Henry Ludvig Lindgren Simon Nielsen Lewis Rose The Diamonds no 1 Lewis Kerr was in the wars on Sunday 10th May but Newcastle hope he will be fit enough for the visit to Berwick. Contests between the two sides are always good to watch. I will miss this match as I am away for a few days with my family. I think the diamonds will be good enough to win this match but whatever happens I hope the fans are entertained
  6. Hi Steve, On my Newcastle Speedway History website I have a photo of Russ Dent (Newcastle 1960s and Sunderland 1970s) Russ is showing his bike broken in two, similar and probably worse than Leighs problem. Yeah 2.5 hours is too long and anyone there for their first time would be unlikely to want to come back. I did say to the guys around me the sun had come out and we might have another stoppage but thankfully the riders got on with the job. If the sun shines in my eyes in my car I just get on with it. You don't see a motorway with hundreds of cars on the hard shoulder because the sun is shining, do you!! nor do you get in in motor racing or superbikes etc. I am all for making speedway safer but I wonder about the sun affecting the riders! The entertainment level served up by both teams was very high. Ipswich will do well I think
  7. Heat 1 was an absolute nightmare for Ipswich and Lewis Kerr. I award Leigh Lanham's riderless bike a perfect 10 for its gymnastic display. He reared and slipped off the back but his bike kept on going, did a handstand on top of the fence at full throttle, a 360 degree backflip onto the track where the back wheel at high revs gripped the track and it shot off in my direction but came to rest in the middle of the centre green. What a great idea cut out switches are Leighs should be taken back to the retailers and ask for his money back! Then Danny King got into trouble 1st and 2nd bend area in the re-start and pole axed his good friend Lewis Kerr. At around 40 minutes after our 6.30 start time we had a result for heat 1. It was a 5-0 for the innocent Diamonds duo of Lewis and Neilsen and as it turned out we needed that 5 points as that was our winning margin after 15 heats. Good riding by Steve Worrall and Christian Henry kept the diamonds in front. Christian often turns in a great score I am really pleased he was brought back into the 2015 side. Ludde was his usual self, missing the gate and battling away around the boards sometimes 4 heats of effort and little to show for it. If he ever learns to gate he will never be caught. Rosey had his best night so far, well done Lewis Apart from heat 1 I was entertained, the match was good but not great. On this showing I hope the witches come back later in the season as they were worth the admission money. The Argentinian Covatti looks to be a great prospect
  8. Speaking of water at Brough, were any of your there in about 2005 when the rain halted a match, track staff running for cover and then it got heavier and heavier and heavier. The rain flooded the car park which on slightly higher ground and a river ran from the car park and down the terraces until it was possible for a couple of kids to swim down by the track!!! If you missed it you missed probably the most obvious rain off in the history of the sport, we didn't need the ref to tell us it was off just a shipping forecast.
  9. Taking on the Monarchs at home will be a daunting task for any visiting side. Steve, Lewis (Kerr) and to a lesser extent Ludvig and Simon did enough to reach a respectable 40 points. If Rosen had been able to ride we may have got a little closer to the Monarchs but realistically 40points was a fair total for us and I think many of us were happy when we passed 30points
  10. We have had 4 world champs Ernie Nicki Pedersen was the fourth but only one world champ that won the title whilst still on our books he was Ivan Mauger. I went to Wembley to support Ivan in 1975 he didn't win that year but our Ole Olsen won it so I was quite happy. The other ex diamond to win the world crown was Anders Michanek. Will there be any other ex or current Newcastle rider to win the GP series. It looks unlikely so we should train up young Archie Freeman how old is he now? 8 or 9?
  11. Is it that bad down in Suffolk? As a speedway fan I do not like to hear of dissent amongst the fans. Redcar fans are unhappy and now we learn that Ipswich may be too.
  12. Ok missed that Steve thank you for pointing it out in your usual friendly manner Josh is a good replacement. I was impressed by him when he guested before, he may even outscore our expectations of Rosey
  13. Well Steve I didn't know that so pray tell us ALL why Rosey will be missing, has he won the lottery
  14. Newcastle's first home Premier League match. To reach the play offs we have to win all of our home league matches and pick up a few away points too. Newcastle Lewis Kerr Anton Rosen R/R Steve Worrall Christian Henry Ludvig Lindgren Simon Neilsen Lewis Rose Ipswich Danny King Gino Manzares R/R Nico Covatti Cameron Heeps Rohan Tungate Stefan Nielsen Ritchie Hawkins When I start a thread I like to show the teams that I expect to contest the meeting. If the riders are listed wrongly please tell us the revised line up (s) This meeting is interesting as it includes the return of last years "King Of Diamonds" Danny King. Danny has been going well this season. Well done Danny but we at Brough Park all want to see you get beat!! For a play off place the Diamonds cannot afford to slip up at home. I think the home form despite the rain offs is good so lets get three points from this match
  15. Hiya Reider, A good write up. The Monarchs are my favourite side apart from the Diamonds. We need strong northern sides and great local derbies etc, not that our 120 mile drives can be considered a "local" derby but I think you will know what I mean. Win or lose I wish the Monarchs well. I only have our 3 home meetings to draw on. Lewis Kerr.... can fly from the gate and blast around turn two, if he does it takes a v good rider to pass him Anton Rosen... Broken Collarbone so R/R Steve Worrall.... you know better than me how he is likely to go at Armadale. Like Lewis he can fly from the gate, he could be a thorn in the monarchs side. Christian Henry.... The Boomerang is another rider who can gate and leave better riders in his wake Ludvig Lindgren.... Going well this season he can often entertain as he misses the gate and powers around the first two turns. Simon Nielsen... an improving reserve who gets important points Lewis Rose... A Brit with talent who so far has struggled but he gets my vote (not voting for the SNP!). He can be Newcastles dark horse Having said all this about the Newcastle guys. I think Edinburgh are going into this match as red hot favourites to win easily. All I can say is come on Diamonds and prove me wrong. I hope Monarchs fans witness a very entertaining match and fingers crossed the Diamonds get something for us to get excited about
  16. Oh, It gets worse for the visiting Diamonds! Sedgy as well as the top three will be looking to notch maximums will they? Newcastle haven't a nine point rider but you know stranger things have happened, all of our riders are capable of winning at least once. A Newcastle win at Edinburgh? 100-01 outsiders but maybe Ludvig and the lads will entertain on the night and foil all the home maximums. I think we will get more than 30 points.
  17. This will be the first league match for the Diamonds. The Monarchs are always a daunting prospect for any visiting team. The Diamonds team of "second strings" will be looking for one or more of our riders to match Sam Masters, Kevin Wolbert and Craig Cook (if fit?). I think the Diamonds will struggle against the Monarchs top three but we will be ok against Edinburghs lesser riders. Newcastle Lewis Kerr Anton Rosen R/R Steve Worrall Christian Henry Ludvig Lindgren Simon Nielsen Lewis Rose Perhaps a Monarchs fan can supply the Edinburgh line up
  18. It is Rider Replacement at number 2 for the unlucky Anton Rosen. Scunthorpe are also using R/R for David Howe Newcastle Lewis Kerr Anton Rosen R/R Steve Worrall Christian Henry Ludvig Lindgren Simon Nielsen Lewis Rose Scunthorpe Josh Auty David Howe R/R Alex Davies Carl Wilkinson Theo Pijper Ellis Perks (or guest ?) Nike Lunna There was a mistake with the averages meaning Alex Davies and Nike Lunna do not swap positions I think Newcastle will win this first leg easily but who knows what we are likely to score down in Lincolnshire! Our first appearance there this season was not a match to remember. Can we be as bad (or even worse!) on our KO Cup 2nd leg on the 5th June 2015?
  19. The Newcastle website shows the following change to the teams line up NEWCASTLE DIAMONDS NEW RIDING ORDER: 1.Lewis Kerr 2.Anton Rosen 3.Steve Worrall 4.Christian Henry 5.Ludvig Lindgren 6.Simon Nielsen 7.Lewis Rose Obviously Anton at number 2 is currently on the injured list so until he returns it will be R/R unless the promoters bring a temporary replacement rider in? The Kerminator Lewis Kerr takes over at number 1 from Steve Worrall and Steve moves to number 3 continuing his partnership with the Boomerang Christian Henry who moves to number 4. I really hope Anton makes a full recovery and comes back raring to go. I supect we have not yet seen what the Rocket Rosen can do in 2015 so fingers crossed Anton you will shake off the injury and get going showing us what you are capable of. So far this season I have been greatly impressed by Simon Neilsen always amongst the points. Keep it up Si In the matches I have seen Steve looks as good as Richie was. I believe the nice twin is capable of surpassing the evil twin!! Lewis Kerr will continue to improve and at number 1 he will be even more motivated. Christian Henry is going great and the captain Ludde has also started well. The guys just need to take their home form out on the road
  20. God knows RuffDiamond. I have been watching the Diamonds since 1961 and have never said I wouldn't be back next week, some did when Ivan Mauger left and more still when Ole Olsen left. Really it comes down to this! Do you like to watch Speedway, if so you will be back despite what may have happened the week before. If you are not that commited then maybe you can say I won't come back! Obviously some are staying away as the crowd is pretty low this season. Personally if the worst happens due to lack of support I would hope we could keep going in the National League rather than close alltogether. I am a speedway addict and would support Newcastle in the "Mickey Mouse" league if there was one!!! However, We are an attractive PL side capable of winning matches so hopefully the crowds will pick up and get a little boost when the footy season finishes
  21. An early return by Scunthorpe, this time in the PL Knock out Cup Newcastle Steve Worrall Christian Henry Lewis Kerr Anton Rosen ? R/R Ludvig Lindgren Simon Nielsen Lewis Rose Scunthorpe David Howe Theo Pijper Alex Davies Carl Wilkinson Josh Auty Ellis Perks Nike Lunna We beat the Scorpions by 14 points when they visited last.. We need a bigger win in this aggregate first leg encounter to take to the EWR in June. I am guessing that Anton will be ruled out by his injury and we will be using R/R ? So lets while away the next 6 days by forecasting the score for the 3rd May. I guess a 16 point win for the Diamonds
  22. What a bad meeting. Referee as others have said was simply shocking. One bad decision or maybe two at the most is allowed i.m.o. as the Ref has to make spur of the moment decisions under pressure. But he got it wrong every time he had to make a decision. Anton was excluded by this strange referee, I think for allowing Robbo to clip his back wheel. and what a shame as Robbo is never a dirty rider but I think he was the cause of the stoppage not the hapless Rocket Rosen. Anton was entertaining the crowd by riding well in that heat and I hope he isn't out of action for too long. Well done Anton, in the couple of laps you completed and I hope it doesn't make you think twice about mixing it from the back in future. I hope the injury is less serious than it looks right now. The delays although I can point to worse long drawn out meetings, were terrible, we were all shivering and lots of us probably wished we had stayed at home. The biggest delay couldn't be explained by our main man, Geore English. I found his comments about taking an early interval puzzling to say the least. I would have thought he was the person to make that decision. Anyway, I think we all understand that George was understandably annoyed. So who was it that called the interval. Answers on a postcard The track was in pretty good shapeand the racing not bad, Christian flew around in 62.8 but why were the tractors out so often, that is usually reserved for meetings when the track is in bad shape. So did I enjoy the meeting? Hell Yes (Ed Milliband). I am a committed speedway fan, you will never hear me say I will not be back next week unlike some who need to wake up and understand that we will only have speedway in Newcastle if sufficient patrons come through the turnstiles and so far this season I think George and the promotion team will be a bit worried about turnstile receipts. Roll on next sunday, you can count on my support
  23. Yes Mike lives down south. He sent me some photos and some info in his own words a few years ago. I put them on the http://www.newcastlespeedwayhistory.co.uk website. http://www.newcastlespeedwayhistory.co.uk/1960%202.htm Try the 1960s Part2 and click on the Mike Watkin bookmark
  24. Aw thanks Norbold. It continues to grow, John Hyam has decided to share some of his lifetime in speedway via the Defunct Tracks website. Always looking for more pics and stories. I will continue to increase the size of the website until it crashes the entire internet
  25. Hi Diamond Ernie, when the dynamite kid gets going our reserves could put a bit of pressure on the other lads. I see the long range weather forecast is for rain on Sunday, now that's a surprise
