Carlisle Speedway/calling Workington Fans
dantodan replied to dantodan's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
My thanks to all of you who have taken the time to add to the thread. With my A-Z of defunct Speedway I live in hope that someone has some photos or memories of any of the dozens of defunct tracks, Carlisle included! so drag your grannies out of their maximum security twi-light homes and get them to get their old photies out for me please Speaking of Carlisle. The floods over there are serious. My sympathy to anyone displaced by the diabolical British weather. I live in a village up a hill in Co Durham and we get buffeted every time it gets windy, nail biting stuff with each gust we worry will the roof take it!! The floods however are far worse than my wind exposed house suffers. -
Yes it looks likely that George will announce the last place at the xmas party. Perhaps the name will be a xmas cracker hopes...... Or will Matty Kus be there dressed like Santa with number 3 on his back!!

Hi well call me Jack o Diamonds if you want, thats not a problem, as he is a very good friend of mine. I hold my hands up however and confess to being "Dantodan" http://www.defunctspeedway.co.uk and http://www.newcastlespeedwayhistory.co.uk These two websites are mine. The Defunct Speedway site gets a lot of traffic as it is but I would urge anyone with photos and or memories of now defunct tracks to share them via my website, just visit the website and pick up my email address Now since "Jack o Diamonds" started the thread a number of years ago!! We have collaberated on a third website This one deals with Jack O's greatest love in life Cycle Speedway. If you like the pedal sport then this will be for you. It, like the two speedway websites is growing large. Jack O supplies the cycle speedway content and I put it on the website. http://www.newcastlecyclespeedway.co.uk We are thinking about a fourth site... Do it yourself Brain Surgery.. wonder if that would get many hits!!

Wot no Richie! In his absence I think the team needs a rider who can shoot from the tapes and can win a couple of races that way in every match even if he misses the gate and just manages a third place or so in his other heats. Kus is that kind of rider so imo we have a place for him I would start with: - 1. Robert Lambert 2. Tero Aarnio 3. Matej Kus 4. Ludvig Lindgren 5. Steve Worrall 6. Lewis Rose 7. Danny Phillips I think a highly rated 17yr old riding at number 1 could do with someone like a guru to keep him focussed. So why not Dave Rowland in that role Dave has done it before. Robert needs a minder imo if we want the best from him

Yeah my last fiver screamed when I paid for a pint at lunch time!

I run the website http://www.defunctspeedway.co.uk Which has a page in the A-Z featuring an attempt to bring speedway to Carlisle. The track was in Moorville Park, Kingmoor, Carlisle, in Cumbria and operated only once in 1937 The Stobbart brothers (Rol and Maurice), built a 440 yard circuit near their home in Cumbria they hoped to introduce speedway to Carlisle but unfortunately it never came to fruition. There was only one meeting held here. It was staged on 18th September 1937. The winner of this meeting was Liverpool's Tommy Price. Perhaps your dad or grandad was there! It was only 78 yrs ago!! Perhaps the local newspaper covered the meeting and you are looking for something speedway related to do this winter. A visit to your local newspaper archive may turn up a photo or newspaper article so if you have the time and the interest please see if you can help me obtain something I can put on the website

Well good luck Richie you have made your choice. I hope you like deep fried Mars Bars and Haggis!! errrr I hope that wasn't a racist comment I have just made

After much thought about buying 2016 Newcastle Season Tickets. They haven't been good value last two seasons. My daughter and I are about to send off for them again. We think the promoters would like some, if not all, admission money in advance during the close season so we are happy to part with our cash now and take the risk that we will have a longer season in 2016, making the season tickets more viable than they have been in recent yrs We like the look of the team so far with a decent signing to go
-
We could live with that. Richie can ride Brough Park so well he must be happy to come back to Newcastle.. Good luck Richie if you decide to go elsewhere but it must be a pull to join up with Steve Worrall at Newcastle..I suppose we will have to wait to see who will fill the remaining slot in the diamonds team
-
So its gone a bit quiet on the Newcastle 2016 thread. We only need one more rider to sign on the dotted line until he does you have time to check out my websites eh hem ...please have a look and see if you have anything that you could email me that could help any of the 3 websites http://www.newcastlespeedwayhistory.co.uk http://www.newcastlecyclespeedway.co.uk http://www.defunctspeedway.co.uk 3. The Defunct Speedway website has really took off. I am constantly contacted by thousands of people some of whom have interesting and sometimes rare stories and items to share via my website. Check it out, you won't be wasting your time. 2. The Newcastle Cycle Speedway website belongs to my mate Keith Dyer ( I just do the website for him) Keith has been heavily involved with the Cycle Speedway at Cramlington and he travels around the north of England and Scotland for cycle speedway meetings. We would love to uncover photos, programmes etc from our areas cycle speedway. so if you can help please visit the website pick up the email address and drop me a line. 1. Newcastle Speedway History Is the unofficial Newcastle Speedway History website. I would love Newcastle Speedway's promoters to endorse my considerable efforts, (I have spent 10 years putting it together) and declare the website "The" official Newcastle Diamonds History website but even if they don't endorse my efforts then the site is still there. Have a look at our past. A good read for fans of any age ================================================================================================================ So getting back to this thread.. Who will be the last signing for 2016? I want Richie. The evil twin would make us premier champions elect but without Richie another heatleader will still make us a force to be reckoned with 1. Robert Lambert 2. Terro Aarnio 3. Richie Worrall or Better! 4. Ludvig Lindgren 5. Steve Worrall 6. Lewis Rose 7. Danny Philips We only need Robert to go beserk and up his average (I am sure he will). Then for Lewis or Danny to start pilling up the points from the reserve berths. We need a new heat leader signing (Richie please) at number 3 making Ludvig our number 4 then surely we have a good team. Ludde could then prove to be a match winner from number 4 in the team.

I can't get no Satisfaction if it isn't Richie

We want Richie!

I could go on Ruff.. Drinking, vomitting, falling over and making an idiot of myself. I think we sometimes forget that young riders are prone to a dodgy year or two. Its part of growing up. I am not suggesting that Robert has a drink problem like mine when I was his age. Just saying whatever Criticisms Peterborough fans are levelling at Lambert may relate to his young years and we are getting him a year wiser. I hope Robert will silence his critics by riding like a champ in every official Newcastle fixture
-
Robert Lambert and his no-show(s) etc The lad is only now 17 yrs old. I wasn't dependable as a 16/17 yr old. My old mum if she was still with us would tell you how bad I was at everything apart from drinking and falling over! Young Robert should be learning from any mistakes he has made. Signing for the Diamonds means he can draw a line under season 2015. Newcastle's promoters know what has gone before in Roberts short career and will no doubt have made their points clear to young Robert, otherwise they shouldn't be promoters!! I am hopeful that he will settle down with us. He knows he is wanted by Newcastle we tried to bring him here last year and he wanted to come to Brough. So maybe he will be happier with the Diamonds next term. I am old enough to remember the 4 riders Newcastle had who went on to be world champions. We need to make signings of prospects like Robert if we want to add to that tally. So come on Robert, the world is your "Lobster" not very good with shelfish!

There are a number of photos of Barghy on my Newcastle Speedway History website http://www.newcastlespeedwayhistory.co.uk/1980s%20part%20two.htm

As regular season ticket holders. My daughter and I were waivering over whether to shell out the cash for a couple of season tickets for 2016 as we feel we didn't get value for our season ticket money over the last couple of seasons with the team not qualifying for the silverware. We were considering in 2016 just paying on a weekly basis for our speedway. BUT the signings so far. Robert Lambert, Steve Worrall, Ludde and Tero suggests a better season next year. These 4 are racers who will entertain us and also can win us vital points instead of settling for where they were after the second bend. I have always had the belief that as a commited supporter buying a season ticket as soon as they are available helps the promoter to get some cash in during the winter. So we will sign up for season tickets again and hope we get a few more matches for our money than we had in 2015. Perhaps season ticket holders should get programmes and car parking inclusive? What do you think about this? It would encourage more folk to buy season tickets meaning our promoters would have more cash in before a wheel is turned next March
-
Ha well I keep overlooking the fact that riders are doing this speedway thing for a living! so Richie may just be waiting for better offers than what we have offered him. (That is: If we have actually tried to lure him back to Brough?) Robert Lambert Steve Worrall Ludde Lindgren Tero Aarnio These 4 signed so far are the makings of a very good PL side With Richie the side would be a Title Tilting Team (T' Lion T' Witch and T' Wardrobe!) ah Yes I fancy a cup of T I know most promoters like to have their teams signed up before Christmas so hopefully signing number 5 will happen soon whether it is Richie only time will tell
-
I have heard Richie likes Haggis, deep fried mars bars and Irn Bru so really it is no contest he will go over the border i fear
-
Richie Worrall is the only other rider who would get us excited after landing Robert Lambert. Whatever obstacle there is surrounding Richie coming home to Newcastle should be an obstacle we can overturn to bring him back. So why is he not already signed for us?? He rides our track as well as any other good rider so come on Richie and George get the pen out and sign the contract.
-
So far Steve Worrall 2nd heatleader Ludde Lindgren second string/ 3rd Heatleader Tero Aarnio Reserve If George can fit another 4 riders averages around these three bringing in a top heatleader above Steve (would take pressure of him) and a rider like Ludde, another second string/3rd heat leader. I will be happy.
-
Ah what a blow if Richie isn't back with us in 2016 so go out there George and get us a rider better than Richie!! then we can accept missing out on him
-
So we have Steve Worrall and Tero Aarnio (well known spelling mistake!) for 2016. I think we all want Richie back for 2016. so get him George!!

http://www.defunctspeedway.co.uk http://www.newcastle...ayhistory.co.uk http://www.newcastle...espeedway.co.uk Thank you SCB. Yes I am an amateur website designer (at 63yrs old you cannot expect much more than amateur !) and custodian/updater of each website. I started the sites back in 2005. The reason I started the Newcastle Speedway History site is rooted in my time running the Diamond Geezers support group. We were writing letters, telephoning and emailing like mad to drum up local interest in Newcastle Speedway and it became obvious to have a background website for our contactees to look at was desirable otherwise we were having to repeat ourselves on the history over and over again nudging up telephone bills etc. I did get some interest and the Newcastle website was given an interview on our local radio station. Two Newcastle area museums (Beamish and Discovery) expressed an interest and looked at length at my Newcastle History website and our official website. They then said they could do historical displays based on my website but with Vintage bikes in a static display I hoped we could run our bikes but they weren't keen. I made local enquiries and couldn't find anyone who had a Douglas, Rudge, JAP etc that they wanted to loan to the museum(s). Without the bikes the museums weren't really interested. I started the Defunct Speedway website after receiving many phone calls, emails and photos etc from fans, riders and ex-officials of defunct tracks. We decided to start an A-Z of defunct tracks with details of veteran shows and reunions etc. The website grew with help from a whole range of people in the speedway fraternity. Ivan Mauger, Dave Gifford, Reg Fearman and Terry Stone to name just a few. This site is growing daily I am pleased to say. The Newcastle Cycle Speedway site is a collaboration between me and my long-time friend Keith (Jack o Diamonds) Dyer with lots of help from South Shields Les Gustafson All 3 websites require Scanned photos, scanned Programmes and memories so if you can help us make the websites even better please visit the website you can help and pick up an email link to me John Skinner aka Dantodan

I would like to hear that we have brought back Richie Worrall for 2016 Richie and Steve would be Heat Leaders in 2016. Also Tero Aarnio if we can get him in on a reserve average. Little Aarnio is a good prospect if in 2016 he could start in a reserve berth. We should find a reserve slot for Lewis Rose. Nice guys Christian Henry and Anton Rosen should be moved on. You have to let go decent riders if a better prospect comes along so come on George sign us some match winning riders and let Christian and Anton go. Lewis Kerr has a question mark over him. He is our rider and if he still wants to ride in 2016 let us start with Lewi next March and see if he still has fire in his belly, No one will feel bad about Lewi if he started and found riding too much for him. Ludvig Lindgren A Newcastle contracted rider. Ludde is great to watch and as he is contracted I would expect him back in 2016
-
I have said throughout season 2015 that our team of second strings could not be expected to win trophies. At the end of the year only Steve Worrall has covered himself in glory averaging over 8 points a match but despite him being a class act at Brough Park, he did not do so well away from home. I think we need Steve next year and another rider capable of 8 points a match, his brother Richie is capable of acheiving 8 points plus. I would be happy with the Worrall twins leading us in 2016 and the promoters would have to fill the other 5 slots with "prospects" Lewis Rose yes and maybe Tero Aarnio but none of the other riders from our 2015 team. There are better riders out there and I hope we will sign them. I believe Ludvig Lindgren is an important cog in the diamonds machine. I would be happy to see him back again. Ludde is great to watch Isn't it great to be talking about riders for 2016! The promoters are willing to run again. I hope we get more fans through the turnstiles to help us stay afloat
