A season ticket at Blackburn Rovers last year worked out at roughly £12 per match and for that you got to see many of the best players in the world (none in the Rovers team) every week. I am not from Blackburn, nor am I a fan of the team, but this represented great value for money and through it being reasonably priced for what you were getting, I paid my £230 and enjoyed watching the games. I go to Belle Vue every week, where it costs £16.50 for effectively 17 minutes of actual entertainment, which is representative of EL pricing, so it's pretty clear to see that speedway does not represent value for money and will struggle to attract newcomers and retain them. Something should be done to bring the gate price down to the £12-£13 level.

Belle Vues National Speedway Stadium
ABS replied to Phil The Ace's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I believe Glyn Taylor had a fair bit of input -
It wasn't as though I wanted to have fortunes on with BWin. I tried to have £50 on Wolves off scratch and was allowed £2.67. I thought I'd be less ambitious with the P'Boro bet and went for £30 and was allowed £2.19. I don't know what's more infuriating, the limiting of bets or the generic response I received from them. It's a shame because they do take different views from the herd, which offers opportunity for us punters and for them as well. One thing is for sure, it will take them a long time to have of chance of getting their money back at £2-£3 per bet!! It would be great if, as a shareholder, you could take them to task on this. Whilst you're at it, you can add sponsoring Man Ure to my list of gripes as well.

All of this and no Stock Cars wrecking the place - wonderful. -

Really? See post #42. He'll go along, if he can get a free pass. Hopefully, the promotion will make sure that Moxey has to pay like the rest of us plebs to get into the new stadium. -
I guess it's their bat and ball and they can act like spoilt brats in the playground. You lose or else we close your account down - great attitude.

Is anyone else suffering from ridiculous stake limitations from BWin? On Monday, they generously allowed me £2.19 at odds of 1.85 on P'Boro +17.5 and a whopping £2.67 on Wolves to win at odds of 1.91. I questioned them about these restrictions and received the following answer: <<We would like to inform you that winning limits are determined entirely by the company and may differ from the limits stated in our Terms and Conditions: https://help.bwin.com/general-information/legal-matters/general-terms-and-conditions/sports-betting#a4 A4.4 Different Winning Limits: The company reserves the right to determine winning limits differently from those specified in paragraphs “A4.3.1” and “A4.3.2” and/or determine specific winning limits for individual players. A change in winning limits may be carried out. Also, if a player places several equal bets (including the combination of Single- and Mutli bets), this will also affect the winning limit. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further queries.>> I asked a specific question and received a totally generic answer back - a load of corporate Bulls**t, in fact. Many of the Internet Bookmakers are a disgrace to their profession. At the end of the day, they are so-called professionals, employing "traders / market makers" who set both the odds and the handicaps. They love it when mugs queue up to lose their money on horse racing, etc., but heaven forbid you actually win money from them and you're then limited. I've had the same issue with Skybet, Unibet, Stan James to name three and I know of friends who have had the same issue with SportingBet and Bet365. Would be interest to hear of other experiences out there.

Make that quarter empty. Assuming that speedway is around next year, the big question is will Moxey grace the new stadium with his presence? Of course, I meant "quarter full" -

Can't wait to see my brick amongst all the others at the new stadium. If BV re-runs the buy a brick offer, I might be tempted to buy another!! -

Interesting to see a piece on this on BBC TV local news this morning. Watching this, hope the rubber stamps are out in the town hall today. -
Spot on. This makes it possible to overtake on the inside as well as the outside - a contest of technique vs throttle.
-
Highlight of the meeting was Hampel winning his semi. Have to say that Johnno came across really well and was an improvement on Tatum. Maybe we need to go back to the 50's and concrete start gates to eliminate such a weighted advantage from Gate One
-
Glad it's not only me who thinks F1 one is Formula Bore. The only overtaking you get is when one car can switch on some sort of boost that the car in front can't - wow!!! Or you get some prat waffling on how exciting it is that a pitstop has only taken 8.1 seconds - and yet some people moan about Pearson and Tatum. If Sky didn't have EL speedway, I would cancel tomorrow. What really irks me is that my Sky subscription has contributed to Sky getting Formula Bore at the expense of the Speedway GP

I would add fixed gate positions to the list

Jason Crump To Step Down From Sgp At Torun.
ABS replied to NeilWatson's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Speedway history is something that appeals to Crumpy and it was great for him that he created his own piece of history on Saturday in being the first rider to score 2,000 GP points. Having watched Jason regularly throughout his time at Belle Vue, I would like nothing more than for him to come back to his spiritual home and lead the Aces into a new, successful, era at the new stadium (fingers crossed). Whatever he decides, best of luck in the future Jason -
If you had seen Davidsson at Belle Vue, as I did, and on television from Coventry last night, you'll know why he isn't riding tonight - not to mention his zero point contribution at home to Eastbourne on Friday.

World Cup Final 14th July
ABS replied to racers and royals's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Denmark are deserved winners, but it's such a shame that we're all talking about the joker. It's well named, as it makes a joke of the sport. It's time for it to go from all forms of speedway. In domestic speedway, we need to get back to tac subs with perhaps a team leading by 8pts or more as the start point, with a proviso that it can't be used by a heat leader in heat 8. The Swedish League does fine without the joker, so why not in the UK? If the joker is the answer, then it's a really stupid question -
I prefer the traditional race card, reading 1-4, inside gate to outside gate. I use racecards for in-play betting and had to cross refer your race card to an alternative for the first World Cup Event. Gate positions are something I always take into account when betting and when you're rushing in between races, it's easy to get it wrong, as I did. In truth, I gave up for the second event and just used the alternative

Thanks - when will this be confirmed?
-
Surely the Adam Shields down to ride at number 1 for Vargarna can't be the same one who announced his retirement a couple of weeks ago?
-
Thanks for this Anders and there was me thinking that everything was so simple, well organised and logical over in Sweden. Is there a single point of reference where one can get up-to-date information on line ups? Looking at today, for example, there is a world of differnce in having Crump at number one to having Zabik, when looking at Swedish Handicap Betting.
-
I thought that you can't change teams once these have been declared. The speedway.nu site still has Richardson listed at 1 for Vetlanda and also has Kaj Laukkanen at 4 for Indianerna with Henka at reserve. Can someone confirm whether my undertsanding is right or not.......before I "invest" some money this evening?

Final Gp, From Germany
ABS replied to Steve Turner's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Thank you AJ for a very profitable evening. 34/1 with Bet and Win, 25/1 with Skybet and 16/1 with Stan James were all good value for a rider who is in great form at the moment. With a bit of luck and an injury free run, AJ would be a great each way bet to win the GP series next season. It would be great if he were to ride for Belle Vue, but I can only see Arena Essex as his home for 2008. Wouldn't mind Bomber at Kirky Lane though and hopefully Olsen will give Bomber a wild card for next year to build on his performances of this year, -
2007 Line Up - Any Thoughts
ABS replied to NJT's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
It was quite a cut-throat meeting yesterday and after scoring 14 points in the main meeting, I believe PK has morally earned a place in the 2007 GP. What is a worry is that the new New Pretenders have made little impact on the Old Guard yet again. We would like new blood in the GP series, but these riders need to be competitive. Would either of Stead or Harris be truly competitive at this level?
