Which Rider Have You Never Taken To?
ABS replied to phillipsr's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Perhaps wrong to speak ill about the dead, but it has to be the late Kenny Carter. Watching him race, he had no regard for fellow riders and engaged in truly dangerous moves, often going for "gaps" which didn't exist. -
For me and in no particular order: Peter Collins Peter Craven Jason Crump Kelly Moran Thankfully all have graced the red, white and black race jacket.
-
Perhaps you should address that question to Matt Ford, unless he is now subject to some form of gagging order?
-
All the Stretford fans disappear when they get beat TWK. It's one of the wonders of the world how mobile phone signals disappear from their phones after a defeat. The biggest loss for Man Ure last night was 40 mins prime selling time at the club shop, as the way things turned out they would have been better off had the Little Pea not scored at the death. Would have been great to have announced the Sky deal just after the match yesterday, perhaps as a fill-in for the Moyes interview!! With the nation waiting for his words of wisdom, we could have spread the message to millions.

Why? It's a foregone conclusion that Labour will remain in power. In many constituences in M/Cr, you could put a monkey up as a Labour candidate and it would get elected. In fact it would most probably do a better job than most of them, especially Brother Karney the commisar for the City Centre. -
Only to find that New Liebour beat him to it.
-
Ford lie? Surely not!!!

Locally, Hyde Road, The Shay and Rochdale. Further afield, Reading, Oxford and Milton Keynes
-
No - it's far better to lose a race to qualify for a golden double!!

If Orient succeed with the ground share deal with WHU at the olympic stadium, it might present a start point. Taking the GP back to London might provide a start point. On revenue share, basically it's no different in principle to what the BSPA has in place with Go Speed for TV rights negotiation.
-
Unless invited by the BSPA to promote the sport on a revenue share deal.
-
Well, the answer is in your question - it's the "p" word. If Barry Hearn was involved in speedway, you could be assured that the sport would be promoted in the true sense of the word. Instead, we have to satisfy ourselves with the BSPA, masters of promoting self-interest. No way would the BSPA cede their power to an outsider.

Delighted for Panthers fans and really pleased to see Ulrich fixed up with a team.

As many of us pointed out last year and the year before and the year before that, there is a simple equation for what has happened and continues to happen to what is, or rather should be a great sport: Lower standards + increased admission charges = reduced crowds Unless promoters reduce their admission charges to reflect the dilution of the product, we will all be sat here again next year wondering why speedway in the UK is going down the pan.

Spot on - it's a real pain when I get back home to find say three editions of The Star waiting for me with another in the post. Invariably, I don't ending reading them all, but an on-line version of a magazine I've subscribed to would be most welcome and would get read.
-
For a variety of reasons. But for anyone living overseas, an on-line version takes away the cost of distribution and the time lag. Nowadays some people prefer to download and read on the go, e.g. Kindle users. Not my cup of tea, but very popular nonetheless. Having an on-linr presence also demonstartes that the magazine is in the 21st century and if it can be readily accessed, can also be readily ordered. Do you need any more?
-
Philip, I have a subscription to the Speedway Star, but do spend a fair bit of time out of the country and it would be great to be able to access the magazine on-line, whilst away. Will you be making the on-line version available to existing subscribers of the paper-based product? After all, what we have paid for is the Star and I would hope that it would/could include the on-line format as well.

I think Go-Speed Limited went into liquidation on 7 June 2010 but Go Speed International Limited is still trading. The accounts of Go-Speed Limited at the time of liquidation make interesting reading. -

Hopefully, someone (Philip?) can provide us with definitive facts. It's just that I feel that it's the norm for people serving on committees to work on behalf of the committee and not for the benefit of themselves, or companies that they are directors of. No doubt something was agreed to, otherwise you would have heard something from the promoters. I don't have a problem with Go Speed earning commissions from the deal, it's just the morality of the situation that I'm questioning. -

If this is the case, one would expect that somewhere within the minutes of meetings held by the BSPA there will be a specific annotation appointing Go Speed with the responsibilty of selling the TV rights to speedway in return for a finders fee. What I find difficult to comprehend is that if Terry was a member of the BSPA, why would he not do the work on behalf of the organisation, as opposed to on behalf of a company of which he was a director? You mention that several people had tried and failed to sell the rights - care to put some names to the people? I do share your opinion that his fellow promoters haven't capitalised on the opportunity, but there are other threads that go into this. One thing is for sure is that diluting the product whilst increasing prices is a certain recipie for failure, especially when money is tight. So Terry had an official role within the BSPA at the time, did he? If so, he surely should have been working on behalf of the BSPA during the negotiations and not on behalf of his company. The phrase "conflict of interests" springs to mind. -

There's quite a few of us on here who like the odd bet on the EL. I don't know what the cumulative take is by the bookies from the live meetings in isolation, but perhaps an approach to the likes of Bet 365 or Bet Victor might be in order. If betting on live meetings is profitable, they might wish to protect that revenue stream? Skybet must have been one of the only bookmaking sponsors not to offer day to day odds on the league they were sponsoring and if Sky doesn't renew does the Skybet "sponsorship" disappear too? If you could get the likes of Bet 365 to sponsor the broadcasts, maybe BT or even Eurosport would be interested in showing it? -
Too true - one thing travels faster than good news and that's bad news
