Eurosport, terrible professionalism.

Apart from the insane repetition of the same phrases, I think that KT does a very good job. Because of long delays from the weather at the Malilla GP, Kelvin had to talk for nearly 4 hours non stop on live television, and that's not an easy thing to do believe me. It takes linguistic skills that most on this forum probably won't possess, and who the hell cares about odd mistakes. -
Sheffield v Belle Vue.
keepturningleft replied to Odds On's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Slightly off topic...back in the 60's speedway star had a monthly sister magazine called speedway post. Every month there was a riders profile and when it came to the riders favourite track, it was nearly always Sheffield, no matter who the rider rode for. I have a very clear memory of this as it became quite predictable every month and also slightly puzzling when the likes of Hyde road was around. Does anyone know if the Sheffield track is the same track it was in the 60's in terms of length, width etc? Currently it looks insanely narrow to me. -

Belle Vue v Ipswich 22nd April

Your'e absolutely right. It's time this track was shut down and the stadium demolished. All major meetings in this country now to be held at Plymouth. -
Perhaps there's something wrong with me but in my peak days of watching speedway - at Halifax in the late 60's and in the 70's - I attended religiously whether the team won or lost. It was entertainment, it was exciting and it was a way of life. Deciding not to attend because your team is losing is like stopping going to the cinema just because you happened to see three bad films on the trot.

Re the Celina issue - nothing new under the sun - the 1970 Internationale at Wimbledon featured, for the first time in British speedway, a Japanese rider Jimmy Ogisu ahead of more worthy riders purely because of the novelty aspect. He wasn't expected to make much of an impression and didn't, scoring just a single point. I'm not suggesting that Celina is a novelty but you get my drift. I wish Celina well and hopes she bags a good few points.

Outstanding article from Oliver Holt.

The powers that be must take some action against Woffinden - he must not be allowed to get away with what he said to a packed stadium that included many youngsters. From the John McEnroe school of yob behaviour, this fading nonentity is desperately trying to keep himself relevant by being controversial. At 33 and clearly being now being quite accident prone, his career at the top is finished. I remember him a few years ago when standing of the podium spitting, as a National anthem was being played. Can you imagine Mauger, Collins, Briggs Nielsen, Gundersen etc doing that? He is an embarrassment to the sport.

So, BZ wins his 4th title at the age of 28. At the age of 28, Ivan Mauger won his first title! The mind boggle as to what BZ could achieve in the coming years.

I don't think I made my post quite clear enough. I was actually jokingly referring to the the speedway bikes on GP night in the stadium!

Will the 20mph speed limit in Cardiff apply to the bikes in the Principality? Well, it will cut down on injuries...

Cue speedway themed Stones songs! 'Start Me Up' 'It's All Over Now' dedicated (sadly) to Wolves & Peterborough 'Gimme Shelter' when it starts chucking it down at the speedway -
It looks as if the Rolling Stones are backing a new speedway team - The Hackney Diamonds!

Just when you are about give up on speedway, along comes a meeting like this. Fantastic stuff from 4 evenly matched teams all giving it their very best. All four teams were winners and a triumph for the sport of speedway. -
It's clear now that 'Just Stop Doyle' activists have infiltrated referee boxes throughout the land. These people won't stop until Jason is eliminated from every race. Action must be taken or Jason will be competing in every race covered in orange dye.

Witches v Tiger's 12th June

New Zealanders and Aussies could ride for the Great Britain back in the 60's. On Desert Island Discs in 1967 Briggo was asked by Roy Plomley how was it possible for a New Zealander to ride for Great Britain to which Briggo responded that he'd been around on the scene for so long that people considered him to be English! Speedway has always been slightly mad. -
Yes, and we could easily watch the winner cross the line and the action behind by simply back zooming the camera at the appropriate time. Simple. I've always maintaned that the best way to film a speedway race is with a single camera. Often it's easy for even knowledge fans to get disorientated when there are constant camera changes, especially irritating when an overtake is happening.

The technical coverage last night was truly awful and reminded me of the 60's when BBC Grandstand would have the camera glued to the leading rider whilst all the action was going on behind. In terms of the technical coverage, I don't think I've seen a worse meeting. Kelvin must wince when he gets home and watches the replay and you wonder if he is in a position to wield some power and advice with Eurosport.
